Guidelines for Activation of the Evacuation Siren in the Faraday Building
The switches which activate the continuous evacuation-sirens in the Faraday Tower and Undergraduate Blocks have been re-located to make them accessible even when the Faraday Tower Security desk is not manned. They are now re- positioned over the lift button panels in the Faraday Tower lobby. The following guidelines indicate when they should be used, and by whom, in the event of a major emergency. Evacuation of the Faraday Tower should only be necessary in the event of a serious incident which puts the safety of everyone in the building at immediate risk. Such serious incidents might be a major fire (not controllable by immediate use of available fire extinguishers), the escape of a substantial amount of a gas known to be dangerously toxic or explosive, or a terrorist bomb threat or similar eventuality. Some differences in procedure arise if such a serious incident occurs during, or outside. basic working hours (9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday-Friday).
