Nature Article by Gerberich and Mook
William Gerberich and William Mook's article "A New Picture of Plasticity" appeared in the August 2005 issue of Nature. The dislocation mechanisms involved in nanoscale deformation have so far been largely studied theoretically from atomistic simulations. High-temperature nanoindentation measurements provide a new quantitative experimental method of studying the onset of nanoscale plasticity. A link to the article is below. Read more...

30. The History Of Chemical Engineering: Introduction
Contains an introduction to chemical engineering and a brief history of the profession.
http://www.cems.umn.edu/~aiche_ug/history/h_intro.html
Welcome to our Our goal is to bring you a history of chemical engineering that encompasses its conceptual origins in Great Britain , subsequent struggle for survival in the United States , and concludes with a cornucopia of contributions made in this Century. Along the way, many tables and figures help illustrate the growth and change in the chemical industry , the chemical engineering profession , and its educational infrastructure Some questions we hope to examine include What is chemical engineering How, and why, did chemical engineering develop What obstacles did the profession face and overcome What contributions have chemical engineers made How has the profession grown and changed over the last Century While the following documents cover a fair amount of ground, it is important to keep in mind that this is only a brief tour of this topic which leaves many important events untouched . If you find our short history interesting and informative we hope you will continue to explore the subject , as there are many excellent sources available . In any case, we hope to hear your

http://www.che.caltech.edu/
Chemical Engineering at Caltech has a long tradition. Started as applied chemistry by Arthur Amos Noyes, the department led the famous Project 37 of the American Petroleum Institute that provided much of the basic knowledge on thermodynamics and phase equilibria in hydrocarbon systems. Subsequent developments, under the able guidance of a series of distinguished educators and scientists, have led the department to the forefront of research and teaching in chemical engineering. At the present time, the chemical engineering faculty at Caltech is one of the most distinguished and innovative in the world, actively leading chemical engineering research into new areas of application and involvement.
