Two Other "Jesus" Movies Worth
Category: Posted by Michael Spencer on March 1, 2004 08:24 PM Two Other "Jesus" Movies Worth Watching: Part Two Jesus Christ Superstar was first released in 1969 as a recording. Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice had done a Biblical musical about Joseph, but this was a daring contemporizing of the Gospel story, with little possibility of escaping the wrath of official Christendom. By 1971, it was in a controversial, and relatively short run in British theater. In America, JCS also stirred up enormous animosity and only a modest success. In 2000, the production was revived in London, and eventually, in America, where it currently enjoys excellent success in a fresh interpretation and touring production. Why would I list JCS as a Jesus Movie worth watching? Everyone knows that JCS is inaccurate, distorted, purposely provocative and devoid of the majority of normal Christian interpretation of any part of the story of Jesus. I've been watching JCS for two decades, and especially after watching and seeing the new "Gale Edwards/London 2000" production, I am convinced that JCS is a great way for Christians who are numbed with their familiarity with Jesus to encounter some of the most important aspects of the Gospels. I won't try to describe what JCS gets wrong. It would take too long and too much space. Let's note what it gets right.

Jeff Wheeler writes: That's a creative idea, but you're certainly right about the selling it off all of a sudden. It could theoretically work if instead they traded it for something more precious, perhaps? It will be quite a sight for my eyes if it ever comes to what Cuban claims it should be (unless science ends up advancing to the point were it can make gold). He should know that the market is plenty efficient. (Note - I like your pretentious use of viz.) Architecting CSS
Garrett Dimon's article Architecting CSS contains some useful guidelines for organising CSS. It can be really tricky to keep track of what every CSS rule does when a site grows large or a design becomes complex, so tips like these are good. After spending too much time trying to figure out what does what when going back to make a few simple changes to an old site, I've become motivated to improve in this area. Tidy my CSS files are not. At least not as tidy and structured as they could (and should) be. 23 aug at 23:07 by Roger

Are Lessons And Music School Really Worth It? by Mike Walsh

About the Author
Mike Walsh is an internationally renowned progressive guitar virtuoso, composer and teacher.  For more information about Mike Walsh, his bands Sage and Hess, to hear samples of his playing/music, and to read more articles, visit his web sites. His latest CD with Sage is entitled "Lightning Strikes" Visit the Sage web site and the Hess web site If you have any comments, questions, or interest in taking lessons, e-mail Mike Walsh YES! This might be one of the biggest and most influential questions for beginners and intermediate level players to have to answer in taking that next step to music success. If you say no to this question, you will have slowed down the rate at which your musicianship, technical ability and musical goals will have flourished. Because this question is asked so frequently, I decided to take the time to write this article. Hopefully, I can help you realize the importance of music education so you can get more of what you want out of your guitar playing and music goals. The problem with this type of question is that people never see themselves as a worthwhile investment . I hear a lot of would-be musicians (beginners and players that dream of making it) scoff at the idea of spending $20 for a lesson, $1040 (52 weeks) a year, to help them excel at the very thing they love to do, play music. Other players only take lessons for a short while because they do not see the whole picture of progress and how they fit in it long term. By taking lessons you start off on the right path to success. At the same time, you are sending yourself a message that you are willing to do whatever it takes to be the best you can.

Can There Be A Decent Left?
by Michael Walzer Leftist opposition to the war in Afghanistan faded in November and December of last year, not only because of the success of the war but also because of the enthusiasm with which so many Afghans greeted that success. The pictures of women showing their smiling faces to the world, of men shaving their beards, of girls in school, of boys playing soccer: all this was no doubt a slap in the face to leftist theories of American imperialism, but also politically disarming. There was (and is) still a lot to worry about: refugees, hunger, minimal law and order. But it was suddenly clear, even to many opponents of the war, that the Taliban regime had been the biggest obstacle to any serious effort to address the looming humanitarian crisis, and it was the American war that removed the obstacle. It looked (almost) like a war of liberation, a humanitarian intervention.
Why shouldn't the American story be like these two, with long years of healthy oppositionist politics, and only episodic resentment? Wasn't America a beacon of light to the Old World, a city on a hill, an unprecedented experiment in democratic politics? I grew up with the Americanism of the popular front in the 1930s and 1940s; I look back on it now and think that the Communist Party's effort to create a leftist pop culture, in an instant, as the party line turned, was kitschy and manipulative-and also politically very smart. Paul Robeson's "Ballad for Americans," whatever the quality of the music, provides at least a sense of what an unalienated American radicalism might be like. The days after September 11 would not have been a bad time for a popular front. What had happened that made something like that unthinkable?

Mike Schneider
Schneider is as fierce an individualist as you will find on usenet. He cuts you less moral slack than anyone, an invaluable service in my judgement. I sometimes call him Sensei out of respect for the part he has played in my personal education. He kept whacking me in the head with a two-by-four until I entered a mental state receptive to rational argument. This is what he calls "neural adjustment". He doesn't think anything of significance can be taught, but in some cases neural adjustment is possible. I'm sure he'll be happy to adjust you if you give him half a chance. Many things Schneider has said seemed very wrong to me at first, but when I've disengaged my prejudices I've found that he's right with disconcerting frequency. He dragged me kicking and screaming out of my comfort zone, and then burned it to the ground. For that I thank him. Read him in a.c-e.c.w
" Chemical spill" or Schneider/lung collaboration coverup? Featured Quote The important thing they'll be missing is the essential fact that the law is *corrupt*. Until they have spent countless hours researching the law, know they have the law on their side and then march into court and get mashed anyway, they will be forever naive. You can't beat the dragon from within its stomach.
