Alberto Cassani, 15 Novembre 2003: Crudo Videodrome di David Cronenberg Max è il presidente di una piccola stazione televisiva alla ricerca di qualcosa di forte, qualcosa "che spacchi". Un giorno Max intercetta per puro caso un segnale televisivo clandestino che trasmette immagini di sevizie e torture di una violenza inaudita. Venuto a sapere che si tratta di un programma denominato "Videodrome", Max lo studia con tale attenzione da rimanerne ossessionato. Il manifesto del cinema di David Cronenberg, in cui il regista riflette sull'avvelenamento provocato dal consumo di immagini televisive e su quanto la TV abbia modificato non solo la società moderna ma anche la nostra stessa percezione della realtà. Pervaso da un pessimismo quasi insopportabile, "Videodrome" evita comunque la visione apocalittica che sembrerebbe ovvia con simili premesse: la visione che ha qui Cronenberg non è quella nichilista di totale rifiuto delle nuove tecnologie, bensì quella di chi associa un nuovo modo di vedere a qualcosa di nuovo da guardare, a qualcuno di nuovo che guarda. I nuovi media, per Cronenberg, hanno bisogno di un nuovo tipo di spettatore, e per farci capire questo concetto lo inserisce in una storia forte, adatta quasi esclusivamente a quel tipo di nuovo spettatore di cui il regista sente il bisogno.
