At the high point of our intimacy, we were just 0.01cm from each other. I knew nothing about her. Six hours later, she fell in love with another man. "Chungking Express" Next to John Woo and Tsui Hark , Wong Kar Wai is one of Hong Kong's most celebrated directors. His moody and introspective films have more in common with European arthouse fare than the blood-soaked crime sagas of his Asian contemporaries. His innovative theme-driven narratives, rich in both subtext and symbolism, have earned him a loyal following around the world, and he was aptly rewarded with the prestigious 1997 Best Director Award at Cannes for " Happy Together The harder you try to forget something, the more it will stick in your memory. Once I heard someone say that if you have to lose something, the best way to keep it is to keep it is to keep it in your memory. "Ashes of Time" Born in Shanghai in 1958, Wong has come quite a long way in his forty years. After moving to Hong Kong in 1963, Wong developed an eye for the visual arts, particularly photography, while he was enrolled in Graphic Design at Hong Kong Polytechnic. At the age of 22, he enrolled in a television production training program run by Hong Kong's TVB, where he developed his talent for screenwriting.

    - Essay - Wong Kar-wai's themes in
Chinese Odyssey 2002 Let's focus on Wong produced and Jeff Lau directed A Chinese Odyssey 2002 . This film contains indeed many typical Wong Kar-wai's themes, which are probably more obvious here than in any of the films he's directed himself. Homepage A lot has been written about Wong Kar-wai , the most internationally well-known Chinese director, side-by-side with Zhang Yimou. A critical essay concerning the whole of a director's work tends to be based on the "auteur theory", isolating common themes and imagery on a given filmography, something that generates some difficulties on critics that try to analyse the films of people that always try to reinvent themselves, like Takeshi Kitano. Wong has also varying his approach on cinema, making contemporary and period pieces, gangster films or drama. But this labelling is a mere abstraction, since "genre" has no relevance concerning this director's oeuvre. Wong makes love stories shot in unconventional ways. One common theme on his work is the failure of his characters to take the appropriate action at the "right moment". The missed opportunity can be forever regret and that's where an apparent obsession with Time is born. Time can't be stopped. People and opportunities may pass by us like a train that only stops for some seconds; if we miss it, we might not be able to get in again. This is illustrated by the close ups of clocks or by the way some characters feel the passing of time, like Takeshi Kaneshiro's character on

Strange Yet Cool: Listening to Wong Kar Wai...and Making Sense of "2046" by Eugene Hernandez
Filmmaker Wong Kar Wai at Lincoln Center in June, after a screening of "2046." Photo by Eugene Hernandez/ indieWIRE. Sitting in the front row of the Walter Reade Theater at Lincoln Center in June, a young woman from Hong Kong smiled broadly and shifted around in her seat excitedly, awaiting the start of a screening of " ." We started chatting and I assumed from her enthusiasm that she had not yet seen the movie. Telling her that she was in for a real treat, I started to talk a bit about the movie. She politely admitted that she had already seen various versions of the film a half-dozen times, mostly on imported DVDs. On this particular night, because director Wong Kar Wai In a theater jammed with equally amorous fans of his work, Wong Kar Wai talked extensively, and at times quite vaguely, about his latest film. Wearing his trademark dark sunglasses and black Izod Lacoste polo shirt, the filmmaker reflected on the new movie, its connection to his previous films, working with cinematographer

    In the mood for love
    di Wong Kar-wai
Vite spiate e tradimenti amorosi quasi pudichi, nessun dramma esteriore, nessuna eruzione emotiva. Una film molto raffinato, rigoroso e coerente, nei colori e nei ralenti In the Mood for Love Vito Casale Non è tutto oro quello che luccica...di BArrYZ
