In 1980, Ray Winstone made a stunning movie debut in Alan Clarke's uncompromising borstal punk musical All Washed Up. After a period of concentrating mainly on theatre and television work he established his current postion as one of our leading film actors with his memorable performance as Kathy Burke's abusive husband in Gary Oldman's gritty 1997 directorial debut Nil By Mouth. Since then, he has stared in Anciano and Burdis's Final Cut , the romantic comedy Martha ... Meet Frank, Daniel and Lanrence and Tim Roth's harrowing tale of incest, The War Zone , amongst many others. He will shortly be seen in Anjelica Huston's Dublin-set comedy drama Agnes Brown and Fanny and Elvis directed by Band of Gold writer Kay Mellor. On televison, Winstone has appearred in several plays and series written by his old friend Tony Grounds, in cluding The Ghostbusters of East Finchley, Our Boy with Pauline Quirke, Births Marriages and Deaths and Last Christmas, a 90 minute drama to be screened on BBC1 in December 1999. | |
