He departed for Hollywood the following year. For RKO he cowrote, produced, directed, and starred in his first film, Citizen Kane (1941), considered by many to be the greatest film ever made. Welles brought technical brilliance, a precise sense of casting, and a complex narrative structure to bear on a teasingly ambiguous portrait of an American tycoon. He won an Academy Award for the screenplay, but never enjoyed such acclaim again. After Citizen Kane Welles clashed constantly with studio chiefs and was never again able to exert such absolute artistic control or achieve such creative success. His other films include The Magnificent Ambersons The Lady from Shanghai Touch of Evil (1958; restored and reworked according to Welles's instructions, 1998)

He was also a cinematic pioneer, his work ambitious, unique, imaginative, daring and ultimately highly regarded and influential. In the words of Martin Scorsese, Orson Welles was "responsible for inspiring more people to be film directors than anyone else in the history of the cinema." Mr. Welles was born on May 6, 1915, in Kenosha, Wisconsin. His father was an inventor and manufacturer and his mother a talented pianist. Mr. Welles was regarded as a prodigy from early childhood and his creative abilities were encouraged and nurtured. He made a successful career for himself on stage and radio starting at an early age, and he made his Broadway debut as Tybalt in

What could they possibly have in common?
I know what you are thinking: you probably think that it's pretty sad that I have actually thought about this long enough to devote a whole page to it, and you're right!
For those who don't know, Orson Welles (1915-85) was a director, producer, writer, actor, and all around genius. He worked in theatre and radio, where was responsible for the famous "War Of The Worlds" panic broadcast in 1938. He also made movies like Citizen Kane , (Considered by some to be the greatest movie ever made.) The Magnificent Ambersons The Lady From Shanghai , and Touch Of Evil . (To name just a few).
I have collected this information from many sources, as well as my own observations. Cites are listed in
( ). The information denoted by "( BRAIN )" is from Brian Norman's now defunct BRAIN ( B unches of R eferences A ccumulated I n a N utshell). This was the cultural reference guide to Pinky and The Brain.
THE EVIDENCE
The Face:
It's a well known fact among PNTB fans that Brain resembles an older Welles. They also share very similar facial expressions (BRAIN). Watch one of Welles' movies and see for yourself.

My Favorite Guy!
George Orson Welles was born May 6th, 1915 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. A child prodigy, Orson graduated high school at 16...only 5 years after going to school for the first time. Instead of going to college, he decided to become an actor. He traveled around Europe, acting in stage productions. He also did some radio work. In 1938, he founded the Mercury Theater. Famous actors joined his theater when they were just starting out, including Joseph Cotten and Agnes Moorehead. He did many stage and radio productions under Mercury Theater, including his infamous interpretation of H.G. Wells' "War Of the Worlds." In 1941, Orson took Hollywood by storm in the Mercury production, "Citizen Kane." It appeared to give a not so nice representation of the life of William Randolph Hearst, although Orson denied that it was based on Hearst for the rest of his life. But people didn't believe him, and "Kane" was unsuccessful and got bad reviews. Yet today, it is considered Orson's finest work, and probably the greatest movie ever made. Its excellent and unique camera angles, and witty dialogue are something directors have been craving to capture for some 58 years since its release. In 1942, Orson had some success with the release of his picture, "The Magnificent Ambersons." Orson narrated the film, but was not in it. However, the movie starred Joseph Cotten, Anne Baxter, Tim Holt, and Agnes Moorehead. This is one of my favorite movies produced by Welles, a story of an aristocratic family 'behind the gold, glamour, and money.'

Citizen Kane's Borrowings: techniques attributed to "Citizen Kane" which appeared in earlier films
From: David P. Hayes
Newsgroups: rec.arts.movies.past-films
Date: Monday, March 09, 1998 9:25 PM Most of us know the esteemed position accorded "Citizen Kane" in film-history books. Arthur Knight's well-regarded 1957 book "The Liveliest Art" accords it space and praise. David A. Cook's "A History of Narrative Film" (Norton, 1981) gives "Citizen Kane" a full section (comprising of three of the four sections within a one of the book's seventeen chapters). A Prentiss-Hall textbook, "Understanding Movies" (Fifth Edition, 1990) devotes the final chapter to it, calling it "Synthesis," and using the film to deal with the topics of the previous ten chapters. Pauline Kael wrote a "New Yorker" essay subsequently published in book form in which she discusses some of the earlier films to use techniques which others have attributed to "Kane." Some other such writers have not been cautious about acknowledging earlier films which have a better claim to originating "Welles's" techniques. Mack Twamley and Vincent (vrv1@ix.netcom.com) recently posted in rec.arts.movies.past-films about "Citizen Kane" using footage from RKO's earlier "King Kong" as background. (messages
