Sons and Daughters was an Australian soap opera created by Reg Watson and produced by the Reg Grundy Organisation . It screened on Channel Seven in an early evening timeslot, running from December until Spoiler warning Plot and/or ending details follow. The initial premise introduced handsome working-class John Palmer ( Peter Phelps ) from Melbourne who on visiting Sydney fell in love with defiant rich girl Angela Hamilton ( Alexandra Fowler ). It was soon learned that John and Angela were in fact brother and sister, twins who were separated at birth and raised separately. John had been raised by the wise former prostitute Fiona Thompson ( Pat McDonald ), and Angela raised by her mother who had married into money. The parents of the twins had each married other people and raised families which at the time the series started had other adult children. In Melbourne the Palmer family comprised John's father David ( Tom Richards ), a truck driver; David's wife Beryl (

At the time of the disaster, Private Wallace was working at her unit, the Joint Movement Control Office in Perth, to supplement her university income over the Christmas - New Year period.
Sickened by what she saw on the television, she wished she could do something to help, and four days later she got her chance.

SONS AND DAUGHTERS (1981-1987) Sons and Daughters was the Australian night-time serial with, as the title song wailed, love and laughter, tears and sadness and happiness... Well, it certainly had tears and sadness. The Grundy's produced series began December 1981 on Channel Seven and was an instant hit, with half-hour episodes screening Monday through to Thursday in an early evening time slot. Clearly inspired by those earlier tales of love and angst The Restless Years and The Young Doctors Sons and Daughters concentrated on the family dramas and romantic exploits of a group of fresh-faced youngsters making it in the big bad world. Certainly the series used the same casting format to those earlier soaps, with a sturdy bunch of experienced actors supported by a repertory of attractive newcomers. Sons and Daughters also owed a lot to the US daytime serials which had long been airing in Australia. With almost a complete lack of humour or irony and a pervasively dire undercurrent, many of the storylines were of the old-fashioned romantic and domestic variety. In true daytime tradition the main storylines centred on two interconnected families, one wealthy and powerful, the other ordinary and working-class. The opening storyline neatly brought the two groups together and exposed a few long hidden secrets when young working class hunk John Palmer (Peter Phelps) met and fell in love with defiant rich-girl Angela Hamilton (Ally Fowler).

BACKGROUND At sixteen Rowena left school and attended a bussiness college (a request insisted upon by her parents when she decided to become an actress), and joined an advertising agency while still performing in the theatre at night. She then joined television in Brisbane as an entertainer on the variety show called Theatre Royal, and she also hosted the afternoon news and weather and a childrens' show. At the age of nineteen, Rowena was diagnosed with Scoliosis (curvature of the spine) and this condition has plagued Rowena ever since. Rowena was working in television in Brisbane when Barry Creyton (from Mavis Bramston fame) talked the producers of a new series into flying Rowena down to audition for the lead role in their show. They agreed and Rowena won the role of Margie Harris in You Cant See Round Corners and moved to Sydney. Rowena found herself on the front page of the newspapers after the controversal park scene aired, and more headlines than anyone imagined. After completeing Corners, Rowena went on to star as the juvenile lead in the hit comedy stage production with renowned performers John McCallum and Googie Withers. The show, Relatively Speaking, On Feburary 12, 1970, the movie Squeeze A Flower had it's world premier in Sydney. Rowena had starred in the movie as the female lead opposite international film verteran, Walter Chiari. The premier was the biggest first night ever held in the country. The film was made entirely in Australia with the old monastary being located in Manly, Sydney, and the winery used was McWilliams in the Hunter Valley. During Walter Chiari's time in Australia, the cast traveled around on a Promotional tour by way of a bus, and a small documentary was made. Rowena was still on television appearing in The Rovers series alongside Noel Trevarthen and Ted Hepple and in April of that year the Rovers cast traveled down to Tasmania on a promotional venture to take part in the annual Blue Gum Festival parade. The group visited the many sights in Tasmania including Constitution Dock and the latest night spot, the Ball and Chain Tavern.

972 x 30 minute episodes This Australian soap opera revolved around twins Angela Hamilton and John Palmer, who are separated at birth and meet twenty years later after growing up in different cities and circumstances. With a potentially incestuous plot-line, this extremely bitchy show featured the sensationally camp character of Pat the Rat. Pat was the supreme bitch of Australian soaps. Rowena Wallace, who kept her teetering between one sort of madness and another, eventually tired of the role and after three years of her, viewers accepted that she had undergone drastic plastic surgery in Brazil and returned home looking remarkably like actress Belinda Giblin!. The series had so many relationship twists and turns that it would be impossible to explain the plot line in a few paragraphs. Suffice it to say that just about everybody ends up with just about everybody else at some stage. The Hamilton's (from Sydney) are worth mega-bucks but are certainly a nasty piece of work (or at least Patricia and Wayne are - Gordon is a bit of an old softie really) and the Palmer's (from Melbourne) are a typical family of Aussie battlers, doing it hard in the cheaper part of town. Viewers were able to hiss happily at spoiled rich boy Wayne Hamilton, who almost ruined his father Gordon, mistreated women and was jealous of Angela. As well as the regular cast (which was large enough anyway!) there was a large transient population sharing the trials and tribulations. More than 2,000 actors appeared during the series' six years, many well known from other soaps, such as
