Jason Thomas learned that over the past year as an entry-level grunt at Findlay Toyota, setting up promotions at concerts among other tedious work. Gone was the athletic promise that always defined "JT," and left was just Jason, a father trying to feed his young daughter and begin a life most would have thought ludicrous before his confidence on the field crumbled under injuries and expectations. And after tasting adult life outside what he calls "the bubble" of sports where an autograph is only wanted on a time card Thomas decided to put it off for a while. Still only 25 years old, he needed to take one more shot at his dream of becoming the quarterback the world once expected him to be when he finished his mercurial UNLV career in 2002. Six months after quitting his job to train full-time and just 18 months after being cut from two NFL training camps as a tight end, Thomas takes his first step toward a comeback today at Las Vegas Gladiators minicamp. He gets a two-day tryout for a spot in full training camp this month, where his best-case scenario is earning the job as backup quarterback to Clint Dolezel.

This is the same man who admitted in sworn testimony before a Senate committee in July that he phoned dozens of his former colleagues at Enron last year to get information on Enron's financial condition and whether it would impact the value of his stock he still held in Enron. White's phone conversations with his Enron buddies took place shortly after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, D.C. and while military personnel were being sent to break up the Taliban government in Afghanistan. White clearly did not have his priorities in order. It's a valid question to ask whether Thomas White is suited to oversee the Army's $82 billion budget and one million of the Army's soldiers who are on active duty. This is the same man who dozens of former Enron employees say headed up a division at Enron that contributed heavily to Enron's collapse. We are now expected to trust that our soldiers will be in good hands as White leads them off to war.

Such is the story of Army Secretary Thomas White, the former vice chairman of Enron, who proved to the nation Friday that his tenure at the disgraced energy company paid off well when he sold his Florida mansion for a staggering $13.9 million. Meanwhile, thousands of Enron investors lost billions of dollars and employees of the company lost their life savings when the company imploded a year ago in a wave of accounting scandals. But White, like other Enron executives, has repeatedly denied having any knowledge of the company's financial machinations, despite the fact that the unit he ran, Enron Energy Services, inflated the value of its energy contractsaccording to dozens of former employeesand has been directly linked to the California energy crisis. Spratt Abstract The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between student leadership and alcohol use. Previous literature had examined alcohol use of leaders and non-leaders in high-use organizations – Greeks and athletes. This study extends that literature by focusing on leaders and non-leaders in low-use organizations, and by examining students with multiple leadership roles. The research used existing data from the Core Alcohol and Drug Survey. A random sample of 2,000 respondents was obtained from the Core Institute at Southern Illinois University – Carbondale. Respondents were leaders and non-leader members of minority and ethnic organizations and religious and interfaith groups. From this total sample, 624 students were active in minority organizations only, 865 were involved in religious groups only, and 511 were active in both. Dependent variables were drawn from four questions on the Core Survey concerning average number of drinks per week, consumption of five or more drinks at one sitting, negative consequences of alcohol use, and alcohol-related beliefs.

PERMUTATION GROUPS OF EXTENDED CYCLIC CODES OVER GALOIS RINGS BLACKFORD, JASON THOMAS Abstract of Thesis Coding theory is a branch of mathematics that has many practical applications in the transmission of information, and is used heavily by computer scientists and engineers. A code over a ring $R$ is a set of vectors of $R^n$ , and an $R$-linear code is a submodule of $R^n$. It was recently discovered that certain binary codes with good parameters can be constructed from $Z_4$-linear codes. This discovery motivated the study of codes over integer residue rings and eventually codes over Galois rings. The permutation group of a code is the group of permutations on the coordinates of a vector that preserve the code. In particular, a cyclic code is a code that is left invariant under any cyclic shift of coordinates. It is good for a code to have a large permutation group, because it is useful for decoding and determining weight distributions. This dissertation focuses on the study of cyclic and extended cyclic codes over Galois rings, particularly those of characteristic 4. Many classical results about cyclic codes over finite fields are generalized. A slightly new approach is given that characterizes cyclic codes over Galois rings, one that involves multiple defining sets and Mattson-Solomon polynomials. Using this approach, all affine-invariant extended cyclic codes over the ring $GR(4, m)$ are classified. This dissertation suggests a method of determining their complete permutation groups, and creates some extended cyclic codes with permutation groups that are larger than those of codes appearing in previous literature. Then a conclusion is made on the asymptotic behavior of these codes.

All but four members are resting in Lobuche drinking tea and relaxing. The remaining members are arriving tomorrow. Today has been probably the nicest day of the trip. Sunny and warm with awesome views of the surrounding peaks. Including , the north face of Ama Dablam and the Nuptse ridge. Many of the members took a few moments on the hike to Lobuche to pay respect to the monuments of some the climbers who lost their lives while attempting Everest. Everyone is in good health except for the few who are suffering from the dreadeed Khumbu cough. Everyone is excited to head to basecamp tomorrow, for at least two days of rest!! and everyone gets their own tent! That's all for now, more to come tomorrow when we get to basecamp. Estamos a 1 dia del campo-base, ya se pasaron 6 dias de trekking hasta aca. Pocos fueron los que tuvieron problemas con la altura. A los pocos superamos la linea de los 4000 metros. La estructura ya esta armada en campo-base esperandonos. Esperamos que un lama realice una gran "puja" para todos los escaladores y trekkers juntos.
