Summer is here!
I was shocked to realise it had been so long since I last added to this page. I have been away in Australia, but not really long enough to make that a good excuse!! Summer is well and truly here with unusually warm weather which makes it more tempting to stay in the garden with a notepad and kid myself that I am working!
Sally J. Collins and I are working on two new Hamish McHaggis books for early next year and a couple of other projects are coming along nicely.
It is has almost come around to time for the Edinburgh Book Festival again and I am about to update the visits page with details of the events and times when I will be appearing there. Sally and I are doing a couple of Hamish McHaggis events together, one for children on 22nd August and another for adults on how we worked together to produce the books. I will also be storytelling and reading from some of my books as a Reading Champion on 16th August and also holding a writing workshop for adults on 26th August. I am delighted to be chairing a couple of events this year for Alison Baverstock and Nicola Morgan.

Welcome
Welcome to the homepage of the History Department of the University of Stirling. History is one of the oldest intellectual disciplines and among the most exciting of subjects taught in universities today.
The University of Stirling is located in one of Scotland's most historic and beautiful cities. Stirling, with its splendid castle, played a crucial role in the Scottish Wars of Independence. It is fitting, therefore, that the University has a large and thriving History Department, the quality of whose teaching was rated as commendable, the top category normally used, in the QAA external evaluation in 2002. The standard of its research was recognised by the award of a 5A, the highest in Scotland, in the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise.
You will find here information on the degree programme, the courses taught, and the Departmental staff. Please click on one of the links on the left or if you wish to contact the Department use the details below.

Review of FOR KING AND COUNTRY by Robert Asprin and Linda Evans
Baen, August 2002 The 'troubles' continue to tear Northern Ireland apart with the IRA and the Orangemen both killing and butchering one another while the British army tries to keep peace and managing only to wind up the target for both sides. When he's injured in an Orangeman bombing, Captain Trevor Stirling is sent back to Britainwhere British intelligence indicates that the Irish terrorists intend to attempt the ultimate terrorist strike. British scientists have been researching time travel. If the IRA could go back in time, they might be able to change history in Ireland's favoreven if it meant a change in the fabric of time so complete that Stirling's present would be eradicated. Stirling arrives too late. A scientist has already been murdered and two scientists, one Stirling's lead suspect, have headed back in time. Stirling followsand finds himself in the era of 'King' Arthur. The Arthur Stirling finds has little relation to the romantic fantasies spun by Medieval couriers. Instead, he and the British Kingdoms he fights for are battling Irish, Pict, and Saxon invaders, attempting to preserve Roman/Celtic civilization in Britain against great odds. Although Stirling is sympathetic to the British goals, complete defeat of the Saxons would transform history. But wouldn't the IRA love it if they could arrange for British Celts to defeat the Saxon invaders and ensure that the English conquest of Ireland never took place?

Question: As a small business owner, what is the best retirement plan I can offer my employees? How about for myself?
Answer: There are several variables in determining the best retirement plan for your small business, including the business' size goals, resources, and long-term financial plans.
Most institutions offer these and other types of plans. Each plan has its own advantages and disadvantages.
    * A 401(k) allows the employee to defer salary, with an optional match from the employer. Plans are available for both small businesses and the self-employed. The advantage of the 401(k) is the contribution is pre-tax, and grows tax deferred. At the end, however, revenue comes out fully taxable, and is taxed as ordinary income and not as capital gains.
    * Simplified Employee Pension. This is a good choice for the self-employed or for a business that is new or has variable profits. It is an easy and low-cost plan to establish and
