148. Saint John The Baptist - The Saint Austin Press
Saint john The Baptist, by JB Midgeley (with a preface by Bishop Peter Smith). Who is Saint john the Baptist? What is his role in our salvation?
http://www.saintaustin.org/johnbaptist.html
Saint John The Baptist
J.B. Midgley
"Jesus began to talk to the people about John. 'What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the breeze?...To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you and much more than a prophet: he is the one of whom Scripture says: Look, I am going to send my messenger before you. I tell you solemnly, of all the children born of women, a greater than John the Baptist has never been...' " (Matthew 11:7-11). Who is Saint John the Baptist? What is his role in our salvation? What is his message for our world, and how can we honour and imitate this great and holy saint as we should? In this beautiful, devotional account Barry Midgley takes us through the ancient prophecies concerning the saint, the circumstances of his birth, his ministry and his martrydom. Using Scripture and the liturgy as his central focus, the author paints a vivid and inspiring portrait of a hero of the Christian faith who is often sadly overlooked, but whose message of hope is vital for our modern world. J. B. Midgley is a retired headmaster. He lives with his wife in East Anglia and is the author of several books and articles on aspects of the Faith.

149. Quarterly Review
Abstract Established in 1809 as a Tory rival to the Whig supporting Edinburgh Review, the idea for the journal came from Sir Walter Scott. The Quarterly Review stood politically for preserving the status quo. The journal was very hostile to the work of writers in favour of political reform. Writers such as Percy Bysshe Shelley, Leigh Hunt, William Hazlitt, Thomas Babington Macaulay and Charles Dickens all received hostile reviews in the journal, whereas the work of Jane austin and Sir Walter Scott was warmly praised. It was alleged that john Wilson Croker's savage review of john Keat's Endymion contributed to the poet's early death. The Quarterly Review ceased publication in 1967.

Welcome to C lub A ustin
Club Austin is a national level development club for track and field and distance running. We are dedicated to the promotion of track and field for distance runners through a team training environment. Our goal is to lengthen the careers of runners once they leave school and improve distance running in the Central Texas area. It only makes sense that for runners to reach their potential they must continue running after college. As any distance runner knows long periods of high quality training are the key to continued improvement and success and we at Club Austin would like to be the start of a support system that would allow this kind of training to take place after the collegiate years. We plan on doing this by:
* Training together as much as possible to reestablish a team situation and raise the training level for everyone.
* Traveling to meets together to help defray the cost of competition.
* Continuing to compete at the highest level of track and cross country.

John Venn 's mother, Martha Sykes, came from Swanland near Hull and died while he was still quite a young boy. His father was the Rev Henry Venn who, at the time of John's birth, was the rector of the parish of Drypool, near Hull. The Rev Henry Venn, himself a fellow of Queen's, was from a family of distinction. His father, John's grandfather, was the Rev John Venn who had been the rector of Clapham in south London. He became the leader of the Clapham Sect, a group of evangelical Christians centred on his church. They successfully campaigned for the abolition of slavery, advocated prison reform and the prevention of cruel sports, and supported missionary work abroad. It was not only Venn's grandfather who played a prominent role in the evangelical Christian movement, for so did his father the Rev Henry Venn. The Society for Missions in Africa and the East was founded by evangelical clergy of the Church of England in 1799 and in 1812 it was renamed the Church Missionary Society for Africa and the East. The Rev Henry Venn became secretary to this Society in 1841 and in order to carry out his duties moved to Highgate near London. He held this position until his death in 1873. As might be expected from his family background, John was very strictly brought up, and there was never any thought other than that he would follow the family tradition into the priesthood. He attended first Sir Roger Cholmley's School in Highgate, then the private Islington Preparatory School.
