Spencer Kult
Spencer Christian Kult was born on a very cold January morning in St. Louis, but it wasn’t until 5 weeks later that his parents, Chris and Tina, were told of his complex heart defect. Spencer’s pediatrician heard a loud murmur during his routine 4-week exam and referred the Kults for an echocardiogram (ECHO). The information from the echo would change the Kult’s lives forever. Spencer was whisked away to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) to be given oxygen and to start an IV. His oxygen saturations (SATs) were in the low 70s (normal is 95 to 100). Spencer had the most beautiful olive skin. But when it was combined with jaundice his first few weeks, his skin tone masked another clear indicator of CHD…duskiness. Spencer was stabilized and readied for transport to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital. Chris and Tina were informed that Spencer had a very complex heart defect that included only one ventricle. He would need to have possibly 3 heart surgeries to help his heart. Within 24-hours of arriving at Cardinal Glennon, Spencer underwent a heart catheterization to determine his exact anatomy and also have a procedure called a blade septostomy. The doctor cut Spencer’s atrial septum with a blade through a catheter in his femoral vein. By enlarging a hole between his atria, Spencer’s SATs went from the low 70s into the 80s and then climbed as high as 93. Spencer started lasix and digoxin and he was released within 5 days.

DePuy covered the 800 meter swim in the Nanny Cay Lagoon, the 12.5 mile cycle from Nanny Cay to West End and return and the 3.1 mile run from Nanny Cay to Pockwood Pond and back in 1 hour, 14 minutes and 32 seconds. “It was a good race. The swim was alright, the bike was really good and the run was a little hot and slow, but I was happy with it. I never stopped and I can’t complain,” DePuy explained afterwards. “I think I’ve done this course in 1:12. At one point, I looked at my watch and I said ‘if you go under 1:15 that will be OK’ and I just squeaked under.”

Chris Spencer * Center - Ranked #1 Mississippi Height: Weight: 309 lbs. 5.18 - Combine Chris Spencer was redshirted in 2000 before becoming a regular contributor in an offensive line rotation in 2001. He started at both guard and center the next two seasons, before taking over the starting center job fulltime this past season. He has an excellent combination of size and strength for an offensive lineman. He is extremely smart and is among the best when it comes to making the proper line calls as a center . He has just about everything you look for in a NFL center . His biggest weakness is his lack of experience. He only has one full season under his belt as a starting center . He needs to improve his technique and may take a year or two to develop into the type of player he can be. He has the ability to play guard or center at the professional level and may be one of those players that starts out as a guard , then moves on to center a year or two later.

By Russ Spencer April 28, 2000 C hris Carter, the world leader of the sci-fi geeks, is also the definitive anti-geek. You might expect the brain behind "The X-Files" to look like one of those guys you see at the "Star Trek" conventions sporting a mullet haircut and glasses held together with duct tape, but Carter doesn't even wear glasses. He's tall, tanned and handsome, well-scrubbed and well put together. He made a rare public appearance recently in Santa Barbara, Calif., which is where he lives part-time. It's also the place he most likes to surf. That's what they say about him in the online chat rooms, anyway. They also say his nickname is "Carver" from his days as a writer for Surfing, and that he surfs goofy-foot, which means he keeps his right foot forward. He chose the character name Mulder because it's his mom's maiden name and named Scully after famed baseball announcer

A Thousand Killed

What a little-known British poet named Bernard Spencer knew.
By Christopher Hitchens
Posted Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, at 11:05 AM PT
I went to bed on Tuesday night, pointlessly sickened by the news that American deaths in Iraq had exceeded 1,000. Why do I say pointlessly? Well, in the first place because one knew this figure was coming, and in the second place because if it had stayed at 999 one could hardly have taken any comfort from the fact. I woke up, as one sometimes does, remembering that there was a book of poems I had to consult. It's a tattered thing on my shelf: an old anthology called Poetry of the Thirties that took a while to hunt down. The poem I was seeking is titled "A Thousand Killed," and it reads like this: I read of a thousand killed. And am glad because the scrounging imperial paw Was there so bitten: As a man at elections is thrilled When the results pour in, and the North goes with him
