Killing Dolphins for Free Trade
By David R. Brower, David Phillips and William Snape 06 Dec 1999 Grist readers deserve better than the poorly informed coverage of the tuna/dolphin issue in a recent article by Rick Gaffney, which makes false and misleading claims about "dolphin safe" tuna fishing methods. A dolphin in the deep. Earth Island Institute, Defenders of Wildlife, the Humane Society of the United States, and dozens of other organizations have worked on the tuna/dolphin issue for more than a decade, and our successful efforts to reduce dolphin deaths in the Eastern Tropical Pacific tuna fishery by 97 percent is considered one of the signature accomplishments of the modern environmental movement. We all celebrated on Earth Day 1990 with the historic announcement by StarKist the largest tuna company in the world that it would no longer buy tuna caught by methods that harm dolphins. Today, 97.1 percent of the world's tuna is caught without chasing and netting dolphins at all. There are ample supplies of tuna without resorting to this cruel and destructive fishing practice.

90. Adding An Environmental Minute To The 1944 Water Treaty

to the 1944 Water Treaty:
Impossible or Inevitable? William J. Snape, III
Legal Director, Defenders of Wildlife Presented By Professor David Getches
Natural Resources Law Center, University of Colorado In some respects, the question charged to this panel is moot because we already have several "environmental" minutes to the 1944 water treaty between the United States and Mexico. As some of you know, Minute 242 already addresses the problem of salinity, while Minutes such as 261, 264, 270, 273, 295 and 298 already deal with various border sanitation issues. What we need, more specifically, is an ecological Minute to the 1944 treaty that addresses the full water cycle of the Lower Colorado River Basin (LCRB) as it relates to the native flora and fauna of this massive riparian ecosystem. Will forging an ecological minute be difficult? Probably. Is it impossible? No more impossible than previous environmental minutes. In fact, given the poor ecological condition of the LCRB, given the mandates of U.S. environmental law, and given accepted notions of international law, Defenders of Wildlife believes it is impossible not to forge an ecological minute to the 1944 water treaty. The real question is when such a minute will be crafted. Generally speaking, the longer we wait, the more difficult it will be. The ecological condition of the LCRB is dire on both sides of the border.

Beta List
Writing a Snape fic but need someone to beta it? Well you've come to the right place! Below is a list of people willing to beta Snape fics. If you'd like to be included in the list head over to the submission page for details. Good luck! Name: Aimless Coy (aka A. Coyote)
E-mail: labradors_suck@yahoo.com
Slash or Het: Slash only. NC-17 only.
Preferred Pairings: Any.
Other: I don't mind Mary-Sues, slash, or squick. I'm quirky but fair. Thin-skinned people bewareI *will* chew your manuscript thoroughly, digest it, and perhaps cough up a furrball or two. Afterward, however, you can find good suggestions under the slobber. (That whole Coyote thing, ya know...) ;-) My background? Creative Writing. (Cue dark music!) Also beta'ed for Hazelnut's first two Snapefics. N.B.: Don't have much time right now (who does) but I'll do my best. For the curious, my website: http://www.geocities.com/labradors_suck . Cheers! Name: Rhonda
E-mail:
... Poliomyeltis@yahoo.com
Slash or Het: Het (Sorry, slash makes me a tad sick to the tummy, no offense =(
Preferred Pairings: Snape/Hermione
Other: I've never beta-read anything before, but I'm big on correcting people's grammar and spelling mistakes. I'm not too good on corrections with the plot and whatnot, mostly spelling/grammar. I'll beta-read long or short fics, I'm good for both. As I said, I've never beta-read for anyone before, but you gotta start somewhere, and it seems interesting and fun. Oh yeah, I'm not English and I don't know many English terms or spellings, just that you add a 'u' in some words. I'd most likely be better reading American fics.

mutilated. Here's a copy-paste from my spoilers.txt: Dumbledore and Aragog die. Severus Snape is the HBP because his father was a wizard and his mother was a Muggle named Eileen PRINCE. He is a Prince, not a prince. Bill Weasley marries Fleur and his face is mutilated. Dumbledore dies at night, at Harry's side, by Snape's hand; he gets badly injured and Harry tries to take him to safety. He practically begs for his next adventure. Snape enthusiastically complies just when Harry thinks they're safe. Snape then flees. Harry Potter gets another kiss from Ginny. He spends the last page knowing that a final confrontation with Voldemort is to come, but he wants to spend all the time he can before then in with his close friends. He vows that if he sees the HBP again, he will hand him his ass. Random shit: There's something called a "horcrux" and also some fake horcruxes.
