63. SMITH, WILLIAM (SONNETEER) - LoveToKnow Article On SMITH, WILLIAM (SONNETEER)

http://41.1911encyclopedia.org/S/SM/SMITH_WILLIAM_SONNETEER_.htm
SMITH, WILLIAM (SONNETEER)
SMITH, T. s.-SMITH; SIR w. brother George was created a baronet, and from him the title has descended to the Smith family of the present day. His best-known work, entitled De Republiea Anglorum: the Maner of Government or Policie of the Realme of England, was published posthumously in 1583, and passed through many editions. His epistle to Gardiner, De recta et emendata linguae Graecae pro-nunciatione, was printed at Paris in 1568; the same volume includes his dialogue De recta et emendata linguae Anglicanae scriptione. A number of his letters from France are in the foreign state papers. See A. F. Pollard's article in the Diet. Nat. Biog. A life by Strype was published in 1698 (Oxford edition, 1820). SMITH, WILLIAM (fl. 1596), English sonneteer. He published in 1596 a sonnet sequence entitled Chloris, or the Complaint of the passionate despised Shepheard. He was a disciple of Spenser, to whom the two first sonnets and the last are addressed. He signed his name W. Smith, and has sometimes been confused with the playwright Wentworth Smith, who collaborated with John Day, William Haughton and others (1601-1603). SMITH, WILLIAM (c. 1730-1819), English actor, the son of a city tea merchant, was educated at Eton and went up to Cambridge, but his wild pranks soon ended his college career and brought him back to London. His first stage appearance was in 1753 at Covent Garden, where he remained for twenty years, playing important parts. In 1774 he was at Drury Lane under Garrick's management. His forte was gay comedy, and he was ^ the original, indeed unrivalled, Charles Surface. It was in this part that he made his farewell appearance in 1788. He died on the i3th of September 1819. His sporting tastes and social connectionshe married the sister of a peerled to his being called " Gentleman Smith," a sobriquet his manners seem to have justified. He is to be distinguished from an older English actor, William Smith (d. 1696), the friend of Betterton.

A Philadelphia Story This Philadelphia Story is not one of wealth and glamour, but one of hard work. My grandfather, Harry Bowman, made a living from delivering ice using a horse drawn wagon and his two youngest sons as hired hands. Harry was what we would now call an "owner operator" in that he owned his wagon. Harry's father, George Bowman, made his living as a produce huckster. Typically, a huckster was a peddler who would go from street to street, and neighborhood to neighborhood with his goods in a push cart. The huckster would shout-out whatever it was he was selling, so that housewives could here him coming.
Harry's youngest son was my dad, Otto W. Bowman. He only had a ninth grade education and worked his whole life as a Boiler Operator.
He wasn’t rich, or had a prestigious job, but he was a great dad. It is his memory that I dedicated this page. Philadelphia Street Maps 1892 - Germantown 1892 - S. Philadelphia 1892 - N. E. William Reece
John Pearce Timothy Kehely ... Jean Forsyth Map of UK Vicki SMITH (nee McKEOWN) Why I Do Genealogy! I started to ask questions about my family after my father died in 1979.
Like everyone who has delved into family secrets, we wished we had listened more carefully to older family member's stories.
I was lucky to still have older family members alive who were happy to answer my questions - some were not interested at all, and you have to respect their wishes (even if that was very frustrating sometimes!)
Two 'lucky' incidents were instrumental in helping me 'find' the Pearces in NZ and the Kehelys in WA!
Visiting the Deakin library with a friend I was just browsing while she poured over shipping indexes. I found a book - Dictionary of Western Australia Biography - and as I sat down to check the book out, it 'opened' at the 'K' page and out jumped the surname KEHELY! Yes it was an entry for my ancestor Timothy arriving in Fremantle in 1841 from Ireland as a bonded servant.
I set out to find where my ancestors came from, how they were doing where they were, why they moved where they did and how they fared when they got there.

William, Jr. Thomas Freeman George

Close your eyes and imagine what it was like for them. Imagine being one of the Seven, the first generation born free. You would have to figure the Seven were a close-knit crew. They probably lived near each other, raising each other's children and working the same fields. Of course, that was then. The world has changed a lot in 150 years. Wouldn't they be proud to know that today, in 2004, that their descendants still gather together? And get together we did….
The Walton family, along with the United families - Wright, Vines, Smith, Davis, Monticure, Lindsey, and Tuck - gathered in Atlanta for the 2004 United Family Reunion. It was four days of love, fun, and fellowship. There were so many new faces in the crowd mixed in with the devoted few. It is estimated that attendance reached 310. And, I must admit that I am particularly proud of the Walton attendance. There had to be approximately 50 Walton's representing descendants of Annie, George, Oliver, and Thomas. That's a far cry from the 4 who attended in 2000 and the 9 who attended in 2002. A heartfelt thanks to all who attended! You make me proud.
Everyone think about this for a minute. You may only get out of this website what I put in it. It doesn't have to be that way. Some of you have a story to tell. Write it down and send it in. Some of you have valuable family information that only you can share. Share it. Some of you are celebrating life's events alone. Use the announcement link found on the bulletin board and allow us to celebrate with you. We are Walton's. We have a lot of love to give, just open up to receive it.

genealogy , crafts and computer interests. These are just a few of my interests. To begin I am going to tell you a little about my family. Right now at our house there are 3 of us, 5 counting our two beagles. There is my husband, Greg, our 17 yr old son, Shaun, myself, Dee, and of course our two lovely girl beagles, Abagail Ashley (Abby) and Christina Corin (Crissy). Greg and I also have two older children. Our daughter Teresa is married. So in her household there are her husband Wes and 3 beautiful children, Collin, Devin, and LaRynn. Of course I'm just a little predjudice I suppose because I am the grandmother. They also have a boy, Jake that is Wes's son who does not live with them but he is very preciuos too. Then we have Doug who is our older son whom is not married but has a lovely little girl, Shakela. So we have a very nice size family but I am sure it will grow more someday. My husband and I enjoy our beagles very much. it's almost like having two little kids around, they are quite entertaining. Their favorite thing I think is to unroll toilet tissue if they get a chance to get into the bathroom. They are pretty much out growing the mischevious things but I don't think they will ever out grow that. Also we enjoy having grandkids stay with us. We seem to acquire one or the other of them latley. And they are all a lot of fun. Please Vist The Home Of Freebies Sign Guestbook View Guestbook Links to other sites on the Web Virtual Flowers

    Preface
Book I - Doubt Book II - Knowledge Book III - Faith Scanned from Volume I of The Popular Works of Johann Gottlieb Fichte th ed. 1889). In " Memoir of Fichte ," published at the beginning of Volume I, it is stated that a translation of Bestimmung des Menschen "originally published in 1848, is now reprinted in this edition." (109) It is believed but, due to a printing error, uncertain, that the translation of Bestimmung and the "Memoir" were both authored by William Smith. The pagination in the e-text follows that of its original source. The "Memoir" refers to The Vocation of Man as a work in which Fichte's "philosophy is set forth in its most popular form but with admirable lucidity and comprehensiveness . . . in which all the great phases of metaphysical speculation are condensed into an almost dramatic picture of the successive stages of development of an individual mind." (109) It is also referred to as "the most systematic exposition of his philosophy which has been attempted in a popular form." (117) It is esteemed to be one of Fichte's "most valuable and enduring contributions to the world." (121) This e-text was created by Carl Mickelsen.
