July 09, 2003 - DVD Review - Chief DVD Review by assorted and Davion Chief
Starring Estaban Rodruguez, Sondra Locke, Ernest Borgnine and Bruno Kirby - Directed by William Friedkin, Written by Paul Schrader "April 10, 1976. Chief drives through the white mans' city. It is hot and dry... again. When will it ever rain here? These streets - Chief sees these streets have much pain." So goes the opening voiceover of "Chief," the obscure and long forgotten sequel to 1975's "One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest," the DVD of which has been released this week. As "Chief" has never been released on VHS or had it's cable or television rights sold, this will be the first chance for many to see this obscurity from a time long past. The plot follows the character of Chief Bromden of OFOTCN (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest), who has now been discharged from the mental hospital and is working as a bus driver in Chicago, Illinois. Chief's monotone, almost existential narration drones through over images of the bleak slums of Chicago that is Chief's bus route. The plot gains momentum with Chief's growing obsession with Deborah (Sondra Locke), a shy and beautiful yet strangely damaged housemaid who takes his bus every day.

102. We Talk - Larry Sanders Show
Did anyone also used to watch the gary shandling show? And have you seen the episode of the Xfiles where gary shandling actually plays Agent Mulder?

We Talk Outward TV PDA View Full Version : larry sanders show grandpaboy 09-05-2001, 04:41 PM hello everyone.
is this not the best programme ever ? (barring the simpsons)
if you disagree , im not listening .
damn the BBC to hell for fucking around with this show the whole time it was on . Alicia K. 09-06-2001, 03:47 PM I only ever saw one episode, the one where he's trying to arrange his final episode, and David Duchovny wants to be on the show. Or is it Garry that's trying to get David for the show?
In any case, there's an absolutely hysterical scene where Duchovny plays up that whole "heterosexual" crush and flashes Garry while wearing a hotel bathrobe.
I always wanted to see more shows, even though I didn't have HBO at the time. Maybe they'll put them out on VHS/DVD in the future.
Alicia K. grandpaboy 09-06-2001, 04:19 PM apperently there are a couple of series out on video/DVD (ive seen reviews) , but i havent found them in any store anywhere . lucy 10-01-2001, 08:15 AM I've been trying to find some Dvd/videos of Larry also. ..it's one of my fave shows too, but I've never seen any dvds/videos to buy of it...same with seinfeld., I can never find anything:(
I remember the BBC schedule of showing it..it was rather erratic to put it mildly...and some days it wouldn't even be on, or if it was it would be about 2 hours late. Lol I loved it when David Duchovny was ever in the show...and those last few episodes were my favourites, but I was so sadn that it had to finish. Did anyone also used to watch the Gary Shandling show? I thought that was even funnier than Larry Sanders!!

Review Summary More than one exalted reviewer has panned Mike Nichols' 2000 fantasy by giving it zero stars! Could they have missed the point of comic Garry Shandling's hilarious debut role as well as four other outstanding performances with countless perfectly timed one-liners?
A refreshing treatment of an old idea, the film shows alien Shandling earning a mission to impregnate an Earth female as his all-male planet is losing its ability to clone. Their leader, Graydon (Kingsley) uses holograms to prepare his expressionless “Stepford Men” to flatter Earth women and to appease them by repeatedly murmuring, “uh-huh.”
"Intensively trained,” Garry arrives in Phoenix as banker Harold Anderson. Totally unprepared for human conflict, his well-rehearsed pickup lines repeatedly flop, “can I have your autograph; you're Miss America, aren't you.”
Competing with viperous co-worker Perry (Kinnear) for women and a VP opening, Harold accompanies him to an AA meeting where “sobbing women are easy prey.” He meets Susan (Bening) a realtor, to whom he immediately declares that he was, “put here to have a child.” Perceiving this admission as rare male honesty and sensitivity, Susan accepts Harold's marriage proposal. While the couple tries vigorously to conceive, Susan realizes too late that Harold lacks human emotion and screams, “what planet are YOU from?”

Garry Shandling v. Brad Grey Filed: January 15, 1998
Los Angeles County Superior Court Status: Case settled July 2, 1999, the day it was supposed to go to trial. Terms undisclosed. The Case: Comedian Garry Shandling , star and cocreator of HBO's The Larry Sanders Show , has filed a $100 million suit against Brad Grey, his former manager and longtime pal, for breach of fiduciary duty and bad faith and accounting. Grey is a partner in the hugely successful talent-management/production company Brillstein-Grey Entertainment, which produces Larry Sanders a still-popular show that's going off the air after this season. Grey is also the executive producer of the program. According to Shandling 's complaint, Grey "negotiated substantial transactions with Columbia Pictures, ABC/Capital Cities and MCAwithout any comparable consideration being paid to Shandlingonly by sacrificing the interests of Shandling in favor of Grey's own financial interests as a television and film producer."

SEAN PENN o Eddie Consistently astounding critics, his peers and audiences with his performances of uncommon intensity, range and intelligence, award-winning actor and acclaimed filmmaker Sean Penn has become one of the most respected and sought-after artists of his generation. In the fall of 1997, he appeared in no less than three feature films, including Oliver Stone's U-Turn; David Fincher's The Game and Nick Cassavette's She's So Lovely, for which he received the coveted Best Actor award at the Cannes International Film Festival. Prior to starting production on Hurlyburly, for which he won Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival, Penn spent the summer in Australia on Terrence Malick's The Thin Red Line. Both films are set to be released in December of 1998. In 1996, he received unanimous critical acclaim and Academy Award® and Golden Globe nominations for Best Actor for his galvanizing performance as a convicted murderer awaiting execution in Dead Man Walking. Among Penn's many praised film characterizations are the sleazy lawyer opposite Al Pacino in Brian De Palma's Carlito's Way, for which he received a Golden Globe award for Best Supporting Actor and an Academy Award® nomination; an Irish-American mobster in State of Grace; a small-town boy drawn into a life of crime by his father in At Close Range; a young man who falls in love just as he is heading off to fight in World War II in the romance Racing with the Moon; a disillusioned American drug dealer-turned traitor in The Falcon and the Snowman and the ultimate pothead surfer Jeff Spicoli in Amy Heckerling's cult favorite Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Penn made his feature film acting debut in 1981 in Harold Becker's Taps.
