JOb Scheduling Hierarchically (JOSH) - Going Global with Globus V3 and Grid Engine
Introduction
JOSH (JOb Scheduling Hierarchically) is a multi-site job-management tool built on top of the Globus Toolkit and Grid Engine . A JOSH user interface (or client) allows the submission, monitoring and termination of jobs running on Grid Engines at remote compute sites (the servers). JOSH also handles the transfer of data files and executables to and from jobs. The JOSH software employs a hierarchical scheduler to match a user's job requirements against Grid Engine instances at available compute sites. It can then forward the job to the chosen compute site for local scheduling and execution. A middleware layer handles secure communications and data transfer between the hierarchical scheduler and Grid Engine and any remote data sources. The OGSA-compliant Globus Toolkit version 3 forms this layer.

    I've been experimenting with the US Census Bureau's Online Mapping Tool . The great thing about it is that its totally hack-able! Its easy to tell from the URL exactly what information is needed to return a map image. In fact, you can get it to simply return a .GIF of a specific size in a specific location with a marker in a specific location and a label of your choice. Pretty cool!     Josh...well in the hell is your email I looked all over your site, plus what I wanted to ask you is that you designed the site for ReadyHosting.com. Could you make a change that will save them tons of phone calls? On the Control Panel where you set up the DSN, would you kindly give an example of each. I never can seem to remember whether for the name of the database if I have to enter the .mdb extension. A few examples would probably make it easier for us that can't remember

    I can't load the pages (not found), nor can I SSH to my account for the last couple of hourse. Either the server is down, or just DNS.

Everyone in their whole data center was affected, but that should be all done with now. We'd have had an announcement, but unfortunately - we didn't have any notice of the maintenance. I don't think they expected any power issues to popup.

    What are the mail details for the new server?

    I had submitted a ticket regarding a problem sending email and it was closed w/o the issue being resolved. Anyhow, I had Hivemail working properly on the old server and after the move, it's not. I can recieve, but not send email I had asked for my account setup information to be resent to me because I don't have it anymore, but I realize now that it wouldn't do me any good because I'm not on that server.
    But I would appreciate it if you could include the info for the mail functions on the new server here. BTW, my site is laondalatina.com. I need to know:
    • What is the name of the SMTP server?
    • It's port number?
    • Does the server require authenication (I wasn't using authentication before)?
    • If it does, what would be the username and password to use? Are they the same as my account name and password?

    Josh Server (born April 11, 1979 in Highland Park, Illinois) is an American actor, best known for being the only All That cast member to remain through the entire original 6 seasons (which are often referred to as The Golden Age of All That).     hotswap changed java code into a JVM with hotswap.jar
    I've found an ant task and java utility code for hotswapping code into a JVM using the JPDA debugging interface. Though it requires a pretty recent version of ant, it does work really well ... within some constraints of the JVM/JPDA interface itself. Specifically, you apparently cannot add, remove or change the signature of methods via said interface ... so whole-sale changes to the program code aren't going to work. But, for a wide variety of minor changes and tweaks, hotswap.jar is incredibly useful. Nevermind the bits about constructing timestamps in his instructions ... touch a sentinel file to keep track of load-times, and use ant's built-in

When I finally had the money to afford 2 bikes (she won't let me sell the Sporty) I ordered a 99 S3T. After some practice rides (and a stint in Reg Pridmore's CLASS riding school) I started taking Mariabelen on StLouisAreaBuellers (SLAB) rides. I'll never forget when we stopped in Hermann, Mo & someone asked her what she thought of going so fast on the last tight section. "I don't know, I was asleep..." The look on his face was priceless. Last year we bought her a 00 Blast, which she has updated to the '01 Yellow bodywork (and added StLouis Blues stickers for a Buell Blues Blast) and logged just over 3500 miles in less than a year. Since she showed so much promise on the bike (not to mention sharing the garage) in Dec I asked her to marry me. We'll have a double-Buell wedding in June '01.
