Sellers was the highlight of each of the more than 60 films he starred in, but it was as the clumsy Inspector Clouseau in the Pink Panther series that Sellers really shone. As Steve Martin gets ready to reprise this role in a new movie, let's take a look at the troubled life of Peter Sellers. Richard Henry Sellers was born in the English town of Southsea on September 8, 1925. His parents, Bill and Peg, were vaudeville entertainers who worked for an acting company run by Peter's grandmother. They took him along on their tours and they even brought him into some of their shows; in fact, Peter made his stage debut when he was 2 days old. Although Sellers was largely a spoiled child, he was also an active one, and learned plenty about comedy throughout his boyhood. By the time he was shipped off to boarding school, Sellers had become a skilled performer. He was a proficient dancer and played the banjo, ukulele and drums.
