After four days at rainy Riviera Country Club, no one has played more than 37 holes. And when rain suspended play 30 minutes into the third round Sunday, officials conceded the possibility the next hole will be a sudden-death playoff between Adam Scott and Chad Campbell "We're going to make every effort to play," PGA Tour tournament director Mark Russell said. "We're going to come back in the morning, try to finish the third round and see how it goes from there."

Sunday, August 21st 2005 Nice T. S. Eliot quote from Blake Morrison in this excellent article on editing: (via Arts and Letters Daily Someone called Fred Studemann from the Financial Times was on SkyNews this morning doing their look at their regular look-at-the-papers bit. He mentioned that story that Tim Worstall drew attention to last week Telegraph why this had occurred Then he drew attention to to make streets more civilized and female-friendly by installing hair dryers in public conveniences, having creches in nightclubs, cutting out the bottom of hedges, and converting non-glass bus shelters into glass ones (they did that to a bus shelter on my street this week, and by next morning it had already been smashed). Some of these ideas apparently came from those geniuses at the think-tank Demos. Mark Steyn has a solution for obseity in America: Posted by Blithering Bunny at 12:26 pm . Curiously, I have never felt safer in my entire life. And, I am happy to say, away from the hysterics of the bleeding and the wounded, my fellow Londoners greeted the events with commendable placidity and equanimity that made one feel proud to be British.

Checkpoint Syndrome
Last year I came across a news item about an Israeli expat living in Britain who was sued by Michelin over the satirical use of their logo in a booklet he published about Israeli prisons. The booklet also contained an English translation of the short book Checkpoint Syndrome, by Liran Ron Furer. Checkpoint Syndrome created a bit of a stir when it was released in Israel in 2003. Major publishers refused it, bookstores declined to carry it, and the house that did publish it will not allow it to be translated into English.
