Patrick John Ryan
Sixth Bishop and second Archbishop of Philadelphia, b. At Thurles, County Tipperary, Ireland, 20 February, 1831; d. At Philadelphia; 11 February, 1911. His early education was received at the school of the Christian Brothers in his native town. In his twelfth year he entered the select school of Mr. J. L. Naughton, Richmond Street, Dublin, where he began his Classical studies. In 1844, while a pupil at Mr. Naughton's school, he headed a delegation of students, and in their name made an address to Daniel O'Connell, then a prisoner in Richmond Bridewell Prison. It is said that the great Liberator complimented the young speaker, and predicted a brilliant future for him. In 1847 he was adopted for the Diocese of St. Louis in the United States by Archbishop Peter Richard Kenrick and entered St. Patrick's College, Carlow. In 1852 he finished his course and was advanced to deacon's orders, but being too young to be ordained priest, he set out for St. Louis with Rev. Patrick Feehan, a subject of the same diocese, and afterward Archbishop of Chicago, and on his arrival was appointed to teach in the Diocesan Seminary at Carondelet. On account of his exceptional ability as a public speaker, Archbishop Kenrick permitted. the young

Cindy St. John (Ryan's mother) one of the first female racetrack grooms and now a graphic artist, tells us about having a gathering at her house during Ramtha's "Dialogue Days" when he would speak with people individually, and about the people that came with 'shopping lists' ...requests that Ramtha would manifest for them... those were not the people that stayed when Ramtha stopped, telling them he came to teach people how to manifest, how to create, not to just do it for them. Cindy has worked in several departments at RSE and is currently in the office of The Outback Boutique another of JZ's artistic creations.
That was the first encounter with Ramtha for Ryan Leisinger at age 7. Having met JZ before, he says he was very clear on the difference between she and Ramtha. What has been the effect of growing up with the teachings as well as public school and usual kid interests? "I don't think I've ever limited what I do or looked at it that way, it's how I was brought up and it affects every aspect of my life, it's something I have never doubted... my thoughts create my reality."

John A. Ryan Institute for Catholic Social Thought Who was Monsignor John A. Ryan? John A. Ryan was the foremost social justice advocate and theoretician in the Catholic Church during the first half in the 20th century. Ryan's family life informed many of his views on politics and society. He learned first hand of the difficulties that farmers encountered and supported the populist movement as a young man. He also read and became aware from his Irish immigrant family about Irish nationalists like Ignatius Donnelly and supported the cause of Irish independence. In 1891, the year before Ryan entered St. Paul Seminary, Pope Leo XIII issued Rerum Novarum , a papal encyclical that encouraged Catholic social activism on behalf of industrial workers. Rerum Novarum served as religious support for the progressive politics and economic philosophy that Ryan embraced throughout his academic and religious life. From his first published article, "A Country Without Strikes," in

John A. Ryan Institute for Catholic Social Thought Purpose of the Institute Introduction: The Importance of the Catholic Social Tradition for Contemporary Society The Church's social tradition consists not only of the theoretical reflections of popes, bishops and theologians, but also of the actions of women and men who live out the deepest aspirations of their vocation in various institutions, and who promote the dignity of others, especially those who are most vulnerable. The social tradition of the Church is carried through the ages, not only in her words, but also in the actions, intentions and institutions of her members. Our deepest aspirations about life, about others and about ourselves and about God must penetrate our understanding of the world. This is why we find people like Dorothy Day, Mother Teresa, and Archbishop Romero, as well as parents who witness to their children, business people who practice justice, teachers who pass on wisdom, politicians who work for the poor and marginalized, so attractive. We find in them an integrity of life in which they bring together their deepest aspirations of moral and spiritual conviction to bear on their day-to-day living. Yet, with this rich tradition, it is too often the case that the Catholic social tradition is the "Church's best kept secret." Too often Catholics have not had the opportunity to be informed by this tradition whether they be Catholic business people unaware of Church's teaching on work and economic justice, Catholic educators unaware of the Church's intellectual reflection on social teachings, or Catholic activists unaware of the Church’s spiritual tradition.

The 21st Century Learning Initiative:
Promoting a Vision, Knowledge, Experience and a Network
For our recent activities, visit our What's New Section. The 21st Century Learning Initiative's essential purpose is to facilitate the emergence of new approaches to learning that draw upon a range of insights into the human brain, the functioning of human societies, and learning as a community-wide activity. We believe this will release human potential in ways that nurture and form local democratic communities worldwide, and will help reclaim and sustain a world supportive of human endeavor. The 21st Century Learning Initiative was established in 1995 by a group of English and American businessmen and organizations to make sense of research on learning and learning processes that were fragmented in many different disciplines, and embedded in many different universities, research institutions and businesses around the world. It has now reached the stage where it is offering training programs to organizations and groups in the United Kingdom and Canada.
