60 MINUTES - May 19, 1996
ANDY ROONEY reporting: Dr. Jack Kevorkian has helped end the lives of 28 painfully ill people. He has been tried and acquitted three times of assisting suicide, most recently last week. I was sitting in my office minding my own business the other day when the producer of 60 MINUTES called and asked if I'd go to Detroit and talk to Dr. Kevorkian. I couldn't figure out why he wanted me to do it. I mean, all I have is a bad cold. It turns out Kevorkian agreed to the interview if I'd ask the questions, so that's what I did. I talked with Dr. Kevorkian and his lawyer, Geoffrey Fieger. Is there a good way of dying naturally? Dr. JACK KEVORKIAN (Assisted Suicide Advocate): I don't know. I think there is. I think most people would pick sudden heart attack and in sleep. ROONEY: In their sleep. Dr. KEVORKIAN: Right, they would pick sudden heart attack in sleep. We assume that's the best way to die, because you never know.

However, Denise's kids from the previous marriage, THOMAS and LIZ, want Grand Pop to stay and so he does, living in Ray's big house on The Main Line, a wealthy suburb of Philadelphia. Denise has never felt she fits in with all this area's old-money and pretense and, although Ray is from wealth, he is also a real, old bastard - and so is his mother, the blue-blood, mold from whence he came Eleanor. Unfortunately, Denise, being newly in love, doesn't see any true colors, but everyone else does, especially Jack. Soon tension erupts into conflict between Jack and Ray. Ray steps up his campaign to convince Denise that Jack belongs in that nursing home and Jack tries to convince Denise that she needs another divorce. Nevertheless, what Ray

The Germans capture the only survivor, an American General, and take him to the nearest SS headquarters. Unknown to the Germans the General has full knowledge of the D-Day operation. The British decide that the General must not be allowed to divulge any details of the Normandy landing at all cost and order Major John Smith to lead a crack commando team to rescue him. Beverly Hills, CA The 2005 Summer Television Critics Association tour kicked off yesterday with the first of two days of PBS press conferences and events, the highlight of which was a panel featuring several veteran television stars from what is sadly now a distant era. The session was so funny and so informative, in fact, that many members of the group think it could turn out to be the most memorable presentation of the three-week tour, which will continue every day through July 29. The panel was for the upcoming PBS special Pioneers of Primetime

Roony: CBS hatred drove Bush hit, Voters are morons
Andy Ronny admitted what everyone knows is true. Rooney Admits CBS's Hostility to Bush Drove Forged Documents Hit Speaking at Tufts University on Thursday night, CBS's Andy Rooney attributed the motivation behind CBS's hit on President Bush based on forged documents to the political agenda of CBS News staffers. "There's no question they wanted to run it because it was negative towards Bush," the Tufts Daily's Keith Barry quoted Rooney as revealing during his remarks. Then in true liberal form, he calls voters morons. ..."Rooney also attributed voters' reliance on religion in the recent election to ignorance" and "said Christian fundamentalism is a result of 'a lack of education. They haven't been exposed to what the world has to offer.'" In addition, "Rooney said he also could not understand how 'men who work with their hands voted for George Bush,' and again attributing the phenomenon to a lack of education." If you voted for Bush you're stupid. Therefor it is up to CBS to produce forged documents to save you morons from yourselves. If only you were more educated, CBS would not have to stoop to these levels. But when dummies like you have the right to vote, they have to do something.

A Tribute to Mickey Rooney
Joe Yule, Jr. was a baby of 18 months when he first appeared on stage, and 78-and-a-half years later he's still hamming it up for the fans. Only now he's known as Mickey Rooney, and he turned 82 years old on September 23. Laurence Olivier once said that Mickey Rooney was the single best actor America had ever produced. At the other end of the spectrum, there are those who said that his best days ended when he and Judy Garland stopped making films together, and that his choice of roles in the latter half of his career was suspect. But one thing that can be said for sure: While other child stars faded and went on to other fields of endeavor, Mickey Rooney has kept on acting and entertaining for eight decades. He also kept on getting married, with eight ex-wives including glamorous actress Ava Gardner. He often joked about it, once saying, "I'm the only man in the world whose marriage license reads, 'To Whom it May Concern'."

FDNY: A Smoldering Future Click here for other stories in this series. His buddy, Joe Angelini, a 42-year veteran of FDNY, was with him when the call came in. Angelini, on light-duty at the time, asked his lieutenant if he could make the run. His lieutenant said yes. Angelini, in his 60s, had no gear and no time to collect any. "I stopped on Liberty Street, and I said 'Joe, you've got to get at least a helmet," Phillips said. Angelini did, but wouldn't make it out alive that day.

The Steelers Decades Index
Ed Kiely on Art Rooney The Chief Index Art Rooney in 1982 ... A Tribute to Dan Rooney
ARTHUR J. ROONEY
in 1983
Moments after the conclusion of Super Bowl IX, on a chilly January day in New Orleans eight years ago, captain Andy Russell held up a football in the Pittsburgh Steelers' locker room at old Tulane Stadium and handed it to an old man. "This one's for the Chief," Russell said. "It's been a long time coming. " The Chief, Art Rooney, pulled out the old National Football League ledger books he keeps carefully wrapped in a cellophane bag in the desk drawer of his offices at Three Rivers Stadium. The books are 30 years old now, but they're still in remarkedly good condition. They tell the story, in Rooney's own neat handwriting, of the birth of a franchise the humble origins of a team celebrating its Golden Anniversary season in 1982. The 81-year-old Rooney opens the pages of the first ledger. It suggests football's equivalent of John Hancock's pulling the Declaration of Independence out of his desk drawer to show where he signed it. "I found these when we moved here. I don't think anybody around here is interested in them," Rooney says almost apologetically. "But they bring back a lot of memories for me."
