In Re: The Adoption of the Infant Child Baxter,
Joseph And Jana Robbins,
Appellants (Defendants below),
v.
Stephanie Baxter And Decoby Askew, Appellees (Plaintiffs below) Appeal from the Hamilton Superior Court, No. 29D01-0008-AD-1058 The Honorable Steven R. Nation, Judge On Petition to Transfer from the Indiana Court of Appeals, No. 29A02-0202-CV-107 December 9, 2003 Sullivan, Justice. After signing consents to the adoption of their baby, the biological parents attempted to withdraw their consents on grounds that they had not been properly notarized in accordance with the provisions of the Indiana adoption statute. We hold that if the written consent is not properly notarized, the validity of the consent may nevertheless be satisfied by evidence that the signatures are authentic and genuine in all respects and manifest a present intention to give the child up for adoption. Background This controversy arises out of the contested adoption of an infant. Stephanie Baxter became pregnant when she was 17 years old. Decoby Askew, the biological father, was 18 years old. Through her mother, Karen Baxter, the still-pregnant biological mother sought out the prospective adoptive parents, Joe and Jana Robbins.

    Gypsy in My Soul
Jana Robbins has had a colorful Broadway career as an actress and singer; now she has capsulized it into a thoroughly entertaining, warm-hearted cabaret hour, packed with songs and lively reminiscences. One of her most popular roles was Mazeppa, the sexy stripper “with a gimmick” in the Tyne Daly production of Gypsy ; Jana was also Daly’s standby. In her cabaret performance, she relives her experiences through several of the show’s numbers, such as Everything’s Coming Up Roses, Small World, You’ll Never Get Away From Me and Together, Wherever We Go – singing and acting them so well that it seems as if her original co-performers were still on stage with her. Among her other top numbers are a moving My Mother Was a Singer , a graphic Zip , and a powerful version of I’m Still Here . Performing unmiked, Jana fills the room easily with her vibrant personality. Doyle Newmeyer shines with fine musical and vocal accompaniment. Peter Haas

. The show closed after just 18 performances. This glowing staged reading demonstrated that if properly cast and fully fleshed out (three good songs and a crucial character cut from the original have been restored here), it could have been a hit. Retaining the wit and warmth of its straight play predecessor, also called Enter Laughing , and the show that made Alan Arkin a star, So Long, 174th Street Ben Saypol was outstanding as the Reiner-esque character David, the Bronx clerk circa 1935 who dreams of being an actor. Jana Robbins as his mother (the musical’s newly restored role) brought delicious fresh life to the prototypical Jewish character whose big number is "My Son, the Druggist." Like most of Daniels’ songs, this one advances the plot more than it serves as a stand-alone number. But George S. Irving, reprising his original dual role as a pompous acting teacher and a butler in David’s Hollywood fantasy sequence, delightfully delivered his show-stopper (and a cabaret staple) "The Butler’s Song" ("He’s Screwing Delores Del Rio"). The terrific cast also included KT Sullivan, Kenny Raskin, and Sally Wilfert. Thomas Mills directed with a palpable love of musicals in general and this show in particular. S o long, Dearie! The Village Voice OBIE Awards were created soon after the inception of the publication in 1955 to publicly acknowledge and encourage the growing Off-Broadway theatre movement. The Village Voice The Village Voice put the new downtown theatre movement on the map with in-depth coverage and support. Not the most usual or impressive resume for a producer. Not much of a theatrical pedigree, either. "My father died when I was three, and my mother knew bupkis about the theatre," he says frankly. (Miller never wants to be thought of as having the slightest pretense.) "Whenever I took my mother to the theatre, she always fell asleep." Like many producers, Miller eventually got an MBA in business, but from Xavier in Ohio. That led to a job running focus groups for new projects for the next two years. He asked people on their recreations to products (Levis), companies (Charles Schwab), and institutions (Dime Savings Bank).

ALLERGIC: Harper plays Marjorie Taub in’ The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife.’ As the crowd moved into The National Theatre for the opening performance of “The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife,” I noted the abundance of middle-aged women, some with sport coat wearing husbands in tow, and I panicked. Reassuring myself that a truly good play could be appreciated by all ages, genders and religions, I settled back to enjoy a show that had been a run-away smash on Broadway a couple of years ago. Sadly, “The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife” did not deliver the laughs or poignancy I had hoped. Its heavily stereotyped characters, rehashed humor and slow action could not be buoyed by the compelling performances of stars like Valerie Harper and Jana Robbins. The moments of wit and occasional points of insight in the dialogue made theatergoers want “The Allergist” to work, but, cliched to the end, it provoked little more than hay fever. The storyline is the first clue that there’s little fresh about “The Allergist’s Wife.” Marjorie (Valerie Harper), a middle aged and hopelessly depressed New York yuppie who volunteers for a living, has fallen into complete despair since the death of her psychotherapist. Her doctor hubby Ira (Mike Burstyn) has recently retired, but reserves no time for his wife. In exchange for her husband, Marjorie is left with just her crotchety Jewish mother, who comes complete with all the stereotypically negative guilt. The world looks bleak from Marjorie’s $900,000 co-op until her childhood friend Lee (Jana Robbins) appears mysteriously and reawakens Marjorie’s passion for life.

When you come right down to it, every person is really a cast of thousands. Or, to put it Bob Ost's way, "Everybody's Gettin' into the Act." The talented composer-lyricist knows the score - and not just the one he's written for this lively revue. He's been around long enough to discern that people act the way they think they should, instead of how they really feel. "All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players." Shakespeare meant it as an observation, but Bob Ost wonders why so many of us take it as advice. Why do so many of us put on an act? So Ost decided to put on an act - a contemporary vaudeville, if you will - in which two men and two women would play the players who had plenty of exits and entrances, for every one of them would play myriad parts: Loners, losers, and lovers. Blondes, babes, and bitches. When "Everybody's Gettin' into the Act" opened at the Actors Playhouse on Sept. 27, 1981, Ann Hodapp, Ross Petty, Leilani Mickey, and Tuck Milligan were the foursome who engaged in a good deal of fourplay with music director William McCauley. But for this recording, Ost embellishes his theme that absolutely everybody's getting into the act by getting everybody in to act out his songs.
