My weekly visit to the local Book Nook found me rummaging usually through the discount piles, accumulating some of the best books for dirt cheap. I am a book junkie and if not digging for bargains to take home, I am usually found planted in one of the comfy overstuffed sofas placed here and there about the store. The coffee nook staff knows me by first name. She placed the book back on the shelf and ran her finger along the spines of several other books. Her eyes seemed to caress each book as her finger did, following the titles closely, pausing with her fingertip as she contemplated a more interesting title than another. She selected a book, and moved further down the aisle, eyeing the titles some more. As she came to the end of the aisle her eyes suddenly collided with mine and a slow smile spread across her face. I found myself smiling back automatically, my face growing hot and I was almost sure it was red too. She started to walk in my direction and I felt my stomach squeeze in anticipation and nervous jitters. What would I say to her? Should I rise to greet her? Should I offer my hand? Should I offer to buy her a coffee? Or should I just sit and play it cool, wait for her to make the first move? | |
