who have helped to make this such a great event.
By
Rick Isaacson and Jack Taylor
The David Richardson Memorial Race originated in the winter of 1995 when Vermilion County Speedway Promoter, Phil Richardson, decided it was time to offer UMP Modified drivers an opportunity to gather in the Midwest to compete for a purse worthy of claiming to be the one to win each year. Richardson's nephew, David had lost a battle with cancer earlier and that is the reason for the title. It is a fitting tribute and each year David's family has been present at the race. • Data availability last week was only 74% percent, but complete statistics are not yet in, so the final number should be higher. Collection and/or operational problems were noted for the following instruments (please see Jim Teske's weekly situation report for details):
  • BRS (no data are being ingested, but are being collecting) MWR (the new software was turned on at the CF, B1, B4, and B6 at 1900 UTC on October 12; it has been on at B5 since February - at present, ingest is being done manually by Krista Gaustad and will be done automatically as appropriate at a later date) RWP (problems involving the 915 MHz at the CF and I3 and the 50 MHz at the CF) AOS (mentor was on site looking for data corruption problems - a crack in the seal of the aerosol stack and a broken sampling tube were found) AERI-X (mentor was on site to perform corrective maintenance, and the instrument now appears to be operating properly)

    Total commitment
By Chad Bonham “I have a passion for fresh-cut flowers,” Richardson admits. “I like to wake up in the morning and have them in the bedroom and the bathroom. I have them in the kitchen and my basement.” “It’s important that people know that I play a very physical position at fullback … but my foundation is built on my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,” Richardson says. “Everyone in this organization knows that and they respect me. I’ve never had a problem expressing that here.” His family eventually landed in Daleville, Ala., where Richardson was a three-sport star athlete and reluctant Fellowship of Christian Athletes president. He went on to star for Auburn University before getting his first shot at the NFL in 1994 when he signed with the Dallas Cowboys as a free agent rookie. Richardson was released and then added to the practice squad where he was tutored by Emmitt Smith and Daryl Johnston. “I was at a point in my career where it wasn’t about money,” Richardson says. “It wasn’t about fame or fortune or anything like that. It was about wanting to win. So we came in with a new offense and brought Priest in and things started to blow up. I just wanted to be a part of it.” As a younger player off the field, Richardson had continued with a noncommittal brand of Christianity. But a budding friendship with former teammate Dave Szott slowly turned his heart towards a more serious commitment.

A shallow lake of north-central Africa in Chad, Cameroon, Niger, and Nigeria. It was first explored by Europeans in 1823. Encyclopedia Chad, Lake chăd, ch¤d ), N central Africa. It lies mainly in Chad and Cameroon. Some 550 sq mi (1,425 sq km) in area in 2003, the shallow lake has been greatly reduced in size since the 1960s, when it varied seasonally from c.4,000 to c.10,000 sq mi (10,360–25,900 sq km) and was divided into north and south basins that extended into Nigeria and Niger. The contemporary lake is restricted to a portion of the south basin. The Chari River is the chief tributary of Lake Chad, which has no outlets. The reduction in the lake's size is due to a falloff in the monsoons that feed that lake's tributaries and a greatly increased use of water from the tributaries for irrigation. Lake Chad was formerly even larger, attaining a depth of c.930 ft (285 m) in the 19th cent.; 60,000 years ago, it covered 150,000 sq mi (388,500 sq km), roughly the size of the Caspian Sea. The lake also has been much smaller than it was in the mid-20th cent., and probably has previously disappeared: The retreat of the shoreline has revealed sand dunes that were submerged until recently, and the fish found in the lake are adapted to river life.

    The Guess Who
While the Guess Who did have several hits in America, they were superstars in their home country of Canada during the 1960s and early '70s.
The roots of the Guess Who can be traced back to the late 1950s, when singer, Allan Kobel led the group as "The Silvertones". The band played local gigs in and around the Winnipeg area and after a series of personnel changes, the band consisted of Kobel, guitarist Randy Bachman, drummer Garry Peterson, bassist Jim Kale and keyboard player Bob Ashley.
Heavily influenced by British records, the boys wanted to take on a more 'English sounding name'. Emulating one of their favourites, 'The Shadows', they settled on 'The Reflections'. Kobel, as the front man and lead singer, also felt the need to change his name. As a long time fan of 'The Chad Mitchell Trio', he stuck 'Chad' in front of his real first name, and the band became 'Chad Allan and The Reflections'.
Soon, they were the most popular rock band in the city, covering top forty material at a variety of local events and got the attention of Herb Britton, music director of CKY radio. At Britton's urging, they traveled to Minneapolis to record their first demo and were signed to a modest contract on the 'Canadian-American' label. The first single release from those early tapes was called "Tribute To Buddy Holly" with "I Just Didn't Have The Heart" on the flip side. The record did well locally, rising to number 7 on CKY's listing in February, 1963, though actual sales were few.

KEYS 11, CANNONS 10; Frederick Rallies To Win in the Ninth
    Chad Capellman

    Special to The Washington Post
    The Washington Post
    FINAL
After losing a 6-0 lead in the third inning, the Frederick Keys rallied with five runs in the final two innings to beat the visiting Prince William Cannons, 11-10, before an announced crowd of 1,630 at Harry Grove Stadium. In the ninth inning, with no outs and the bases loaded, a grounder by Tom Russin was bobbled by Cannons third baseman Dan Kopriva, which allowed Johnny Isom to score the game-winning run.
The victory snaps a two-game losing streak for Frederick (7-10). Robert Morseman (1-0), who allowed two hits in three innings, picked up the win and Jim Dixon (1-1) took the loss for Prince William (7-10). The game started 35 minutes late because of rain, and was delayed for what seemed every few seconds by wind gusts that were estimated at 50 mph. The wind was so strong that a portable pretzel stand on the concourse tipped over and made a thundering bang that echoed through the near empty stadium. A three-run home run by Eddy Martinez in the second inning cleared the 28-foot high fence in left field and gave the Keys a 4-0 lead. A two-run homer by Jim Foster in the third pushed the lead to 6-0.
