Paralyzed Christopher Reeve makes slight gains
Reeve was paralyzed in 1995. ST. LOUIS, Missouri (CNN) Actor Christopher Reeve paralyzed since 1995 is experiencing slight movement in his fingers and toes, his doctor told CNN on Tuesday. "To be able to feel just the lightest touch," he said, "is really a gift." He can feel hugs from his wife and children, he told People magazine in the issue that will be available on newsstands Friday. Dr. John McDonald, a leader in the field of spinal cord regeneration, said he couldn't predict whether his patient will walk again, but told People: "The fact that he's having some recovery could make that a possibility." "The belief is that most recovery occurs in the first six months, and that if it's not complete in two years, it's pretty much over. ... And typically, you know, someone [who] doesn't have any recovery early, won't have any recovery late," McDonald said. Reeve's improvement "really changes the playing field in terms of what's possible." Reeve, who will turn 50 on September 25 and is best known for playing Superman in the 1978 movie and sequels, was paralyzed from the neck down in a 1995 riding accident. Reeve fell from a horse during an equestrian event, and broke two bones in his neck.

you are," notes Cyndi Jones, publisher of Mainstream . Similarly, disability rights activist Mary Johnson notes, "Just as homosexuals in the early 1970s rejected the stigma of being gay, disabled persons are saying there is nothing sad or shameful about their condition. They are taking pride in their identity as being disabled; parading it instead of closeting it.”
Nearly three years after his injury, Christopher Reeve’s focus is set on someday walking again. Since leaving the hospital he has had nearly 60 speaking engagements a year, a half dozen television appearances and numerous endorsements. Today he believes the scientific community is very near to providing people who have spinal cord injuries with a means to walk again. Thus, the path that Reeve has chosen is clear. "That is the road I have taken. It just comes naturally to me,” says Reeve. “I am a competitive person and right now I am competing against decay."

Review Summary A man is visited by an old woman who says a haunting phrase "Come back to me." 8 years later and experiencing loneliness and writer's block, he visits a hotel to think without distraction. He finds a photograph of a woman that completely entrances him. Later realizing that the woman in the photo is the old lady who visited him 8 years ago, he travels to the distant past to find the woman.

Somewhere In Time is one of the most highly underapprecited love storys of our time, with an added Sci/Fi element. Richard Colier (Reeve) must travel back in time to find the woman he has become obsessed in finding (played by Seymour). A truly wonderful film that is as sensitive as it is beautiful. Don't miss it!

Christopher Reeve Testimony: March 5, 2002
In a Senate hearing on the subject of "The Dangers of Cloning and The Promise of Regenerative Medicine", Christopher Reeve testified before the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions in favor of the United States government to allow human cloning The Chairman: We look forward to working closely with you.
We are privileged today to welcome a really outstanding group of experts before the committee. First of all, I would like to welcome Christopher Reeve to our hearing this morning. I think that for all Americans, his abilities have made him not only an extraordinarily successful actor but, as I have said other times, his courage has made him an American hero. We are enormously appreciative of his willingness to come to the committee. He has been a tireless advocate and a man of extraordinary courage, and he lets all of us know that you do not have to be a Senator to make a big difference in life; all you have to do is have the courage of Christopher Reeve. We welcome you here to the committee, and we look forward to having you lead off the discussion.

Implant helps Christopher Reeve breathe
Story Tools NEW YORK (AP) Christopher Reeve says a device implanted into his chest now allows him to breathe without a ventilator for hours at a time. HEALTH LIBRARY Health Library YOUR E-MAIL ALERTS Christopher Reeve Medical Research or Create your own Manage alerts What is this? The "Superman" actor, paralyzed from the neck down in a horseback riding accident in 1995, demonstrates the device, which acts like a pacemaker, during an interview with Barbara Walters for ABC's "20/20." When asked by Walters if he ever thought he would be off the ventilator, Reeve says, "I was hoping for years." "It gives me now, a sense of one more piece of the puzzle being solved ... because a spinal cord injury affects every system in the body: bladder, bowels, sexual function, everything," Reeve said in a portion of the interview posted on the ABC News Web site. "So the more and more that you can get some systems back ... like the ability to breathe as normal ... just makes you feel that you're moving forward," he said.

'Smallville' welcomes Christopher Reeve
Offering tips on being Clark Kent
Christopher Reeve plays an astronomer on Tuesday's "Smallville." Story Tools RELATED 'Smallville' NEW YORK (AP) Tom Welling has learned firsthand: Being Clark Kent isn't easy. That, above all, is the lesson of "Smallville," which finds Clark, even more than the typical teen, consumed with awkward self-discovery. Clark feels like an outsider without understanding why. He senses an emerging destiny, yet he's blind to his future as the Man of Steel. His plight is any teen's plight, writ large and shrouded in secrecy. "You play this kid in school who's trying to be normal and has these abilities he thinks work against him," says Welling, who stars as that kid. "It's like an exaggerated form of puberty for him as he gets these abilities, which are just exaggerations of things that we all can do: We can all run, he can just run faster; we can all pick things up, he can pick up things that are heavier." Big deal. What Clark really wants the heart of schoolmate Lana Lang (played with winsome appeal by Kristin Kreuk) remains beyond his reach. The pain it causes him proves he's not invulnerable.

Christopher Reeve on politics and stem cell research
Reeve said majority of Catholics support embryonic stem cell research Actor and activist Christopher Reeve has a personal interest in the federal funding of embryonic stem cell research. He was paralyzed from the neck down when he was thrown from a horse back in 1995. Reeve spoke with CNN Senior White House Correspondent John King on CNN's Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer. KING: You just heard Congressman J.C. Watts, a firm opponent of embryonic stem-cell research. He's one of the many voices President Bush is hearing from as he nears what the president himself has called a very agonizing decision, the toughest decision, he says, of his young presidency. MORE STORIES Christopher Reeve urges embryonic stem-cell research Nearly half House members urge stem cell funding EXTRA INFORMATION Click here to learn how embryonic stem cells are harvested In-Depth: The stem cell debate Before I talk to you about it, I want you to listen first to some more advice the president received six days ago in Rome from Pope John Paul II.
