Posted on 03/31/2001 14:29:55 PST by Diago Fr Peter West writes: Dear Friends, Many of you have been emailing me to ask what happened at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Newark on Sunday March 18. You may have heard that I was physically thrown out of St. Patrick’s School hall. This is true. I will give you a full report. I was present along with about 15 other demonstrators at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Newark. We used our First Amendment rights to heckle and boo pro-abortion politicians at the grand stand in front of City Hall. We also passed out leaflets along the way to protest Jim McGreevey who was chosen to be the Grand Marshal of the parade. As a State Senator in Trenton McGreevey voted twice against banning the gruesome partial-birth abortion procedure. The whole parade was one big Democratic Rally for Jim McGreevey. McGreevey for governor signs were everywhere and McGreevey campaign literature was passed out liberally. Afterwards, I visited several gatherings at taverns where McGreevey’s supporters were gathered. I wore stickers which said "McGreevey Supports Partial-Birth Abortion" and "St. Patrick Is Pro-Life".

Beverly Owen as Marilyn
Beverly did the first 13 episodes of The Munsters. Why did she leave the show? "I wanted to get married," says Owen, who lives in New York City. "That is the reason I left. There were a lot of other theories put forward, but that's the reason. I was in love with someone who lived in New York and I left my contract so we could get married and he's the father of my two children." That's the happy part of her story. Now for the unpleasant part: She says she was cast in "The Munsters" against her wishes and that leaving severely cramped her career. "I was under contract, a seven-year contract to Universal. In the first year of it, they would fly me out from New York to L.A. to do `The Virginian,' `Wagon Train,' `Kraft Mystery Theater,' an Audie Murphy movie. Then they put me in the series, which I protested at the time. I was told, `Do it or we'll sue you.' So I moved to California under protest and negotiated out of it."
Because of her dispute with the studio over leaving (but also because of her commitment to marriage and motherhood), Owen's career opportunities dwindled. "I was not allowed to do anything except commercials and occasional one-shots," she says. "I probably should have challenged that in court. But I knew I wanted to get married and have kids and I did. But I was not allowed to do anything for 5 1/2 years."

EASY COME, EASY GO 1967, United States. Starring Elvis Presley, Dodie Marshall, Pat Priest, Pat Harrington Jr., Skip Ward, Sandy Kenyon, Frank McHugh, Ed Griffith, Read Morgan, Mickey Elley, Elaine Beckett, Shari Nims, Diki Lerner. Directed by John Rich. Available on DVD from Amazon
But money couldn't keep Presley interested, and by the middle of the 1960s, his performances were becoming as shabby as the films surrounding them, just as his physical appearance was deteriorating from lack of care as well. By 1966's Paradise, Hawaiian Style , Elvis hardly even looked like himself, and shades of the sweaty, fat Elvis we endured just before his death hover over the images of Elvis in that final Hawaiian escapade.
Someone must have kicked the King into gear though, because a couple films later, we find him looking in much better shape. Perhaps because he was getting primed for his fabled 1968 comeback, the Elvis on display in 1967's Easy Come, Easy Go

Amos 8:11 JEREMIAH PROJECT BIBLE PROPHECY CULTURE WAR NEW WORLD ORDER ... DECEPTIONS The Truth The Problem The Solution Modern Ecumenical Movement There is great emphasis in the church today on uniting professing Christians of all denominations and beliefs. The message is that we're not so different after all... we can work together.
Setting aside theological differences, we can help each other in the things we all agree upon. That effort is commonly referred to as ecumenism which is defined as "the organized attempt to bring about the cooperation and unity of all believers in Christ." The foundation for this ecumenical trend has been laid and built upon over many years. We saw the beginning of institutional ecumenism in the 1960's, with The World Council of Churches , mostly liberal mainline Protestant denominations who denied such essential doctrines as the inerrancy of Scripture and a literal, bodily resurrection of Christ. For years, Evangelicals distanced themselves from this institutional ecumenism because of the unsound theology of the groups involved.

Taking A Chance On God
Liberating Theology For Gays, Lesbians, and Their Lovers, Families and Friends
P repared by his many years of intensive study and teaching of psychodynamics at the Institutes of Religion and Health in New York City, as well as his own years of analysis, John McNeill deals with homosexuality from both the spiritual and psychotherapeutic dimensions. Because of his years of training and experience as a psychotherapist with hundreds of gay and lesbian clients, he has combined insights from psychotherapy and spirituality to help the reader overcome any interiorized homophobia, shame, guilt, and fear resulting from their religious training, and cultural and family prejudices. Taking A Chance On God clearly distinguishes pathological religion from healthy religion, applying the principle that whatever is good theology must also be good psychology, and vice versa. This book opens the door to a new ethical understanding and acceptance of homosexual relationships as morally good, and gay love as a deeper sharing in divine love. M cNeill demonstrates that those who practice pathological religion base their relationship with God as a relationship to a god of fear. Further, homophobic fundamentalist preachers demand that all must worship their god of fear; they compel all gays and lesbians to sacrifice any hope of a life fulfilled with sexual love and intimacy in order to escape their fearful god's wrath. McNeill admonishes that... "Such a service of fear would blaspheme the Christian God of love."

Community August 5, 2005 A Fitting Farewell To A Great Priest
Father Pat with his many friends at St. Anne's Thank you to all the parishioners who attended the 11:45 AM Mass on Sunday, June 26, to honor Father Patrick Riegger. Over 1,000 people attended the Mass and the reception following it which ended at 4 PM. Father Pat received not one but THREE standing ovations of over 5 minutes each during the Mass. His sermon was eloquent as usual thanking the parishioners and staff for his four year stay which was unfortunately cut short. He will be remembered for his humility, honesty, and dedication to God. He lived the life of a truly dedicated priest honoring all, rich, poor, young, and old. He was an example to the community in this time of need and he will sorely be missed. Not since Msgr. Seidenschwang had the St. Anne's Parish had a more religious, caring, and popular priest who had such positive impact on all. His legacy will live on with our young and old and continue here in a spirit of fairness, honor, and dignity to both men and women. Posted 15 July 2005 Alice Mulheron filed this report. Father Kennedy died at Concord Hospital on May 17, aged 74, after a long period of illness and was buried at Waverley Cemetery, Sydney on May 24. Mourners then walked in a funeral procession down Redfern St, past Redfern Station into The Block, as Jagamarra sang an Aboriginal mourning song about the spirit leaving the body. Father Kennedy was said to have disliked institutional hierarchy and clerical bureaucracy in the church. In 2000 he published his only book, Who Is Worthy Father Kennedy was committed to social justice for those rejected by society and the church, mourner Rhonda Ansiewiez told the congregation. The ceremony ran overtime, as impromptu speeches were given and songs were performed by Aboriginal people who had known Father Kennedy. They spoke of his support for them personally, along with his activism on behalf of their people and culture. As Adelphia Goes, so Goes America? by Patrick J. Buchanan
February 14, 2005
In his second inaugural, George W. Bush used the words liberty and freedom 42 times. And, indeed, if America is about anything, she is about freedom. But freedom from what, and for what? What brings the old question to mind is the decision by Adelphia Communications, the cable operator that has long refused to carry pornography, to offer triple-X rated programming for the first time in a major media market: Southern California. What is triple-X-rated programming? Sallie Hofmeister of the Los Angeles Times explains: "Single-X-rated movies feature nudity, long-range or medium-range camera shots, simulated sex and sex between women." Her depiction of double-X- and triple-X-rated programming is best left to the imagination. In short, this is the sort of squalid, grungy stuff that, not long ago, would have had the men who produced and distributed it sent to prison for years, after being denounced from the bench as perverts. Why did Adelphia change its policy? Well, it seems that John Rigas, the 80-year-old founder who, on moral grounds, refused to carry "soft-porn," is on his way, along with his son, to a minimum-security facility for looting his company. Family values at work. And as Adelphia has filed for Chapter 11 and is on the block, its present managers wanted to make it as attractive a property as possible.

No doubt either that there will be other actors bringing this terrific play to life in regional theaters throughout the country as well as abroad especially if it get the Pulitzer Prize it deserves. In fact, Los Angeles has already mounted it with Linda Hunt as Sister Aloysius (see Our Los Angeles production review ). Still, it will be a challenge to match the excellence of the original foursome, so it's a pleasure to report that they are they are reprising their roles in the Broadway transfer and that they're, if anything, even better. Director Doug Hughes has seen to it that the elegant set has made the transition to the Walter Kerr stage and that, unlike many such transfers, there's been no loss of the play's intimate connection with the audience.
