Pleasence's acting career began in a production of '' Wuthering Heights '', but was soon interrupted by his service in the Royal Air Force and a year in a German prisoner-of-war camp. He had been a conscientious objector at first, but later joined the Royal Air Force . He was shot down and taken prisoner. He returned to acting after the war, and critics began to call him the "Man with the Hypnotic Eye". Perhaps because of this, and his bald head and quiet-but-intense voice, he specialised in insane and evil characters. His trademark voice may be credited to elocution lessons he had as a child. Pleasence was married four times and is father to five daughters. Miriam Raymond and Pleasance produced two daughters, Angela and Jean in their to marriage. Un viatge fantàstic cap al futur que celebrarem amb el film de Richard Fleischer, una de les peces més originals i ben recordades dels anys 60, una altra "flipada" conseqüència d'algun viatge psicodèlic d'aquella colla d'al.lucinats que eren els membres de la colònia cinematogràfica de Los Angeles. Per fer la pel.li, la Fox va llançar la casa per la finestra. Van rodar tot un any, als decorats construïts en un camp de futbol (perquè no cabien a qualsevol plató), supervisats per un equip mèdic que garantia la fidelitat a la realitat del que és invisible del cos humà. Aquests decorats s'han convertit en l'element clau del prestigi de "Viatge fantàstic". Els van fer Jack Martin Smith, Dale Hennesy, Walter Scott (que no té res a veure amb l'autor d'"Ivanhoe") i Stuart Reiss, van guanyar l'Oscar d'aquell any i van estar perfectament acompanyats pels efectes visuals d'Art Cruickshank i la fotografia d'Ernest Laszlo; i més encara que per la fotografia, pels efectes de la llum, per dotar les superfícies de la densitat, les transparències, les textures i la tactilitat que s'extingien. No m'acomiadaré sense dir que el professor de piano de James Dean, Leonard Rosemann, és l'autor de la partitura, com sempre molt moderna i a contracorrent. I el que és més important: amb "Viatge fantàstic" teniu assegurada una sessió entretingudíssima. No hi ha res millor.
