The Plant Suburbia, Englanda (1994)
Joanna Roth...........Constance
Valentine Pelka......Max
Eoin McCarthy.......Tom
Clive Jenkins..........DCI Pinker "I'm just a dusty old navigator." Max Storyline:
Acting/dialogue:
This is a wonderful little film. It is charming and mysterious at the same time. Other than Val, who is completely enchanting as the sweet 'navigator' the other actors turn in solid performances, especially Roth as the vivacious and carefree, Connie. It was also refreshing to see McCarthy, who played Hugh Beringer in Val's episode of Cadfael , in a nicer role that suits him much better.
Believability: Of course this story isn't very believable, but then it isn't meant to be. Still it does provide a good insight into the different lives one can come across in a quiet street. Each resident has their own distinct interests, and even if not examined, own background.
Turn Ons: One of the very best parts of this film is the chance to finally see Val in a love scene! And Max is undoubtedly one of Val's nicest characters. I also enjoyed the Japanese couple and how they told their story of the husband's escape from being a kamikaze pilot in the war.
Turn Offs: One thing that grated on me was the how the police assumed that Tom must be the murderer and have terrorist connections because he was Irish. It didn't fit into the film, and surely we have moved on from immediately suspecting an Irishman of a crime. Another peeve, although not directly related to the film, is what seems to be a conception among some people that have seen it that Max is an innocent and naïve man. He is nice. He is sweet, but I don't see any evidence that he is in anyway naïve.

Mark Ryan.................Nasir
Nikolas Grace.............Sheriff of Nottingham
Robert Addie..............Sir Guy of Gisburne
Valentine Pelka...........Sarak
Lewis Collins..............Philip Mark “Nasir! We had been brothers. I taught him to fight.” Sarak Storyline: The Sheriff of Nottingham has let Robin Hood and his men slip through his grasp one time too many, so King John (Philip Davies) has ordered Philip Mark, a man renowned for his ruthless, yet effective methods, to take his place. In his employ is a masked Saracen assassin, Sarak, who is looking for his *brother,* Nasir to repay an old debt. As Robin and his men realize that the old Sheriff is the lesser of two evils, Sarak and Nasir have their showdown.
Acting/Dialogue: I loved Robin of Sherwood when it was first broadcast, and it is an excellent romp through Sherwood forest. Valentine is almost unrecognizable as Sarak, his voice is very guttural, and when he isn’t wearing the hood, the scar and slicked hair change his looks completely. The two fight scenes between Sarak and Nasir are wonderfully executed in slow motion, especially the one in the tent. They give a dream like quality to the fights. Lewis Collins seems to be having terrific fun as Mark, taking great pleasure in being snotty. "Really, you Saracens are so vengeful."
Historical Accuracy: For as much as the legend of Robin Hood is fact, this is. This series took a far more realistic approach to the legend than the ‘50s TV series, and the movies. It has even added to the legend in the form of Nasir. Subsequent films have had an Arab among the merry men.

Most are linked to larger versions. indent After the complimentary breakfast buffet, Linda and I watched most of the two Horseman episodes, then went to the Opening Ceremonies. They weren’t very interesting, for the most part – just a reading of the rules (the one rule that caught my attention was that we couldn’t ask Slash-related questions, at the request of the guests. Apparently some of them weren’t comfortable with ‘em). It got interesting when the guests came out. Not only were we to be graced with the four Horsemen (Peter Wingfield, Valentine Pelka, Marcus Testory, and Richard Ridings), Richie (Stan Kirsch), and two writers (Donna Lettow and Maureen Russell, author of The Complete Watcher’s Guide ), but also Michael J. Jackson, who played Sean Burns! WOW! We all cheered wildly. Peter Wingfield and Richard Ridings weren’t there yet, but were on there way, so we got started with the panels.

Most are linked to larger versions. indent One of the greatest weekends of my life started in a revolting way: I had to get up at 5am, because the taxi to take me to the train station arrived at 5:20, so I could make the six o’clock train. Putrid. Why the ultra-early train? Well, a bunch of con-goers were planning a tour of Cadbury World (which is just outside Birmingham, where the con was), and were planning to leave around 9 or so. I was supposed to get in around 8:25am, then hoof it to the Birmingham Grand Moat House hotel. Hence the pre-dawn train. indent What was scary was that there was another taxi there at that time! I made it to the station, froze my heinie off waiting for the train, which came on time, and I hopped off at Doncaster to make my connection to Birminham. So far so good. But the train to Birmingham was delayed about twenty minutes. It finally arrived, but before we made it to my stop, the train was delayed another ten minutes by another train in the way. So, I got in half an hour late, and pretty convinced that I was going to miss the tour. I got a little turned around coming out of the station, and finally gave up and took a taxi to the Grand Hotel (location of the convention, and of my room), where I learned that the tour had already walked over to the rail station.

David Abramowitz
Writer David Abramowitz started out as a musician and singer who enjoyed performing for children. Then along the road of life he won enough money on a game show that he was able to quit "work" and write for a year. This investment in his creativity paid off. He became a successful screenplay writer producing work that while action packed, also has heart and insight on the human soul. Some of David's credits include writing episodes for: He was head writer for: Double Dare, The Yellow Rose, Buck James, V, MacGyver, Jake and the Fat Man, Highlander, Highlander: the Raven, The Lost World, Queen of Swords, a nd many more.
Jim Byrnes
James Thomas Byrnes was born September 22, in St. Louis, Missouri. He has lived and worked in Vancouver, B.C. since the early seventies. Well know for his voice over work and acting roles in Wiseguy, Highlander, The Commish, and a host of other interesting character driven roles, yet Jim's soul belongs to the blues. Growing up in St. Louis he watched the likes of Muddy Waters, Howling Wolf, and Ike and Tina Turner performing in neighborhood clubs. He has played the guitar since an early age and has a voice that reaches down into you. In 1995 he received a Juno award for his album

Paul Edmonds' HLDU 3 Report - Part 5 Valentine Pelka and Maureen Russell The Horsemen Episodes This was the first of three sessions that Maureen did with each of the actors, showing some of the dailies from episodes that they were in and inviting comments from them and questions from the audience. In this case, Valentine was watching the dailies from both the Comes A Horseman and Revelation 6:8 episodes. His first scene on screen was actually the first thing shot. We then moved to the power station scenes, starting with the "swear you will kill MacLeod" scene. First up was one long continuous shot of the entire scene, which showed how some of the dialogue gets cut in the editing process - at one stage, Kronos says to Methos, " feel it, embrace it, love it - it's what you are". When Peter said, "I swear", Valentine started to giggle and said that he had clicked with Peter straight away. They were both inveterate gigglers and had burst out laughing at the end of the scene. This was followed by a close-up of Valentine and there were laughs at Kronos' half-smile. "I wish I'd never said anything," said Valentine. In another take, as Kronos and Methos clasp hands at the end of the shot, Peter can be heard to mutter, "Oh, that feels good..." Of the fight in the power station with Duncan, Valentine said that had been in Vancouver for three days when they shot that and he had been working with Braun McAsh during that time, but barely with Adrian. He said that you need to establish a relationship with the other fighter, as some people can miss a blow and do not pull the stroke. However, he found that he could trust Adrian, as there occasions when both of them made mistakes and the other pulled the blow. Adrian was the best fighter he had ever worked with and was terrifyingly fast. He said the fights in

Paul Edmonds' HLDU 3 Report - Part 11 Valentine Pelka Valentine came on stage holding a copy of David Copperfield in his hand. He had been asked to give some readings for us only the night before, and so had chosen to read from Copperfield as he was reading it himself at the time. He started by reading from the beginning of the book. He said that he was wandering a lot at the moment - he had just got home from Los Angeles, then come to Australia, then he was returning home, but starting a new project in May, which should last about 10 months. He would not talk about what it was, (but we worked out that he had to be talking about Queen of Swords and it's since been confirmed that he will have a recurring role as a bad guy). He hopes to return to Australia with his wife and son after that. He said he would like to read more French literature, as he had never attempted Zola. He said he had started The Masterpiece several times, but never got beyond Chapter 5. He only reads the classics or genre novels, never potboilers. Asked what he would read at the airport, he said that he would prefer to draw, whether what he could see or from memory.

Intro:
When you've been a Beatles-fanatic as long as I have, you develop a wide circle of friends that know of your love of all things Beatles and will contact you regarding virtually any Beatles-related news that they hear. So when I started EAR CANDY, I naturally brought this "connection" with me. It was through one of my dearest Beatles friends that I found out about the play "And in the End: The Death and Life of John Lennon". The play had its world premiere in Edinburgh in August and plans are in the works to bring the play to Broadway in 2005. I contacted writer-producer-director Alexander "Sandy" Marshall regarding granting me an interview about his project and he graciously took the time to answer my questions. I was a little nervous about talking to an Emmy Award winning writer, especially one with a resume as impressive as Sandy's, but my quest for Beatles-information overcame any nervousness on my part. I found Sandy's answers both fascinating and illuminating and I hope to see the play when it reaches the U.S. Oh yeah, there was also a little tinge of jealously as I read all the Beatle-people in England that Sandy got to talk with while researching this project. (I did get to spend a day with Allan Williams, the Beatles first manager, during my trek to

In 1944, Ingrid Henning had the chance to kill Adolf Hitler and failed. She's been atoning for that failure ever since by killing dictators, tyrants, racists, and fascists who might have the potential to become as dangerous. MacLeod has a chance to stop her before she kills more mortals, but by stopping her, does MacLeod commit the same evil for which he's judged her guilty?
Written by: James Thorpe
Directed by: Richard Martin
Guest Cast: Peter Wingfield (Methos), Musetta Vander (Ingrid Henning), Jan Triska (Nicolae Breslaw) 5.11 - COMES A HORSEMAN
MacLeod knew him as Melvin Koren, a desperado who left a trail of death and fire across the Old West, but Cassandra remembers him as an evil far older. He is Kronos, leader of the Four Horsemen, mounted Bronze Age raiders who murdered, raped, and pillaged their way across two continents. Never was a band of Immortals more cruel or more feared. He destroyed Cassandra's people and she's been hunting him across the millenia. But Kronos has a different target now Methos, who was one of the Four Horseemen.

This bibliography lists items (books, plays, films, etc.) that represent historical Romantic figures in fictional contexts, and takes as its starting point a thread which began as a query about current (twentieth-century) works of science fiction that feature Romantic figures. The thread soon spread to include the representation of Romantic figures in non-SF works from the twentieth century and earlier.
