Audacious and profane, General George S. Patton Jr. was one of the ablest and most controversial U.S. commanders in World War II. The San Gabriel, California, native was fond of presenting himself as a modern-day cavalryman, outfitted with ivory-handled sidearm and leading tank outfits across Nazi-occupied France. Patton once exclaimed, "Compared to war, all other forms of human endeavor shrink to insignificance." Patton distinguished himself in various World War II campaigns including the invasion of North Africa and the capture of Sicily. It was during the Sicilian campaign that Patton generated considerable controversy when he struck a hospitalized G.I., whom he accused of being a malingerer. For this act, the general was forced to issue a public apology. Such miscues forced General Eisenhower to reprimand the outspoken and colorful general. Patton's expertise in tank command helped frustrate the December 1944 German counteroffensive in the Ardennes at the Battle of the Bulge. Under his command the Third Army swept into Germany and into Czechoslovakia. In April 1945, Patton was promoted to temporary four-star general, but was removed by Eisenhower from his leadership of the Third Army for making inflammatory remarks concerning the denazification policies. In December 1945, less than a year after the defeat of the Nazis, Patton was killed in an automobile accident in Germany.

Film quotes
  • Patton : "Now I want you to remember that no bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country." Patton : "You know what the poet said:
Through the travail of ages, Midst the pomp and toils of war, Have I fought and strove and perished Countless times upon a star. As if through a glass, and darkly The age-old strife I see - Where I fought in many guises, many names - but always me.
Do you know who the poet was? Me." edit
Reviews and awards
  • "The epic American war movie that Hollywood has always wanted to make but never had the guts to do before." Vincent Canby, The New York Times "There's a great deal of talk about loyalty from the bottom to the top. Loyalty from the top down is even more necessary and much less prevalent. One of the most frequently noted characteristics of great men who have remained great is loyalty to their subordinates."

Harry Potter AND MORE...!
OK, bought the new Harry Potter book at midnight on the 16th; bought a second copy that afternoon because my wife and I were fighting over my copy; finished it at 2 AM on the 17th.
Great bookpossibly the best of the series. Very dark. The tension is piled on from the beginning. I will not put any true spoilers here. But Ms. Rowling's cynical view of politicians is even more overwhelming in this book than in any other. She's not so negative that everyone in politics is depicted as conniving and incestuous; Mr. Weasley works for the Ministry of Magic and several of the Order of the Phoenix are Aurors (think a magical combination of FBI, CIA and Secret Service).
Ms. Rowling makes her characters increasingly interesting with each book. While there is much magic in the booksthey work on many intellectual levels, they have realistic dialog, they balance fantasy and realism wellI think her characters are the key to the success of the series. The main characters are human with all of the failings inherent therein. The teenagers struggle with authority, peer pressure, relationships, etc. The adults range from over-protective to cruel and none is a caricature.

http://www.southernmusic.net/charliepatton.htm
CHARLIE PATTON C harlie Patton was the first great Delta bluesman; from him flowed nearly all the elements that would comprise the region’s blues style. Patton had a course, earthy voice that reflected hard times and hard living. His guitar style - percussive and raw - matched his vocal delivery. He often played slide guitar and gave that style a position of prominence in Delta blues. Patton’s songs were filled with lyrics that dealt with more than mere narratives of love gone bad. Patton often injected a personal viewpoint into his music and explored issues like social mobility (pony Blues), imprisonment (High Sheriff Blues), nature (High Water Blues), and morality (Oh Death) that went far beyond traditional male - female relationship themes. Patton defined the life of a bluesman. He drank and smoked excessively. He reportedly had a total of eight wives. He was jailed at least once. He traveled extensively, never staying in one place for too long. Patton’s standing in blues history is immense; no country blues artist, save Blind Lemon Jefferson, exerted more influence on the future of the form or on its succeeding generation of stylists than Patton. Everyone from Son House Howlin' Wolf , and Robert Johnson to Muddy Waters , John Lee Hooker, and Elmore James can trace their blues styles back to Patton.

He was born on May 1, 1891, in Hinds County near Edwards or Bolton, Mississippi. His parents were Bill and Annie Patton. When Patton was nine years old, his family moved to Dockery's plantation. It was at this time that Patton developed a love for music. He took up the guitar in his early teenage years (Charley Patton). Soon after, Patton began playing blues. He found he could be free while singing this music. Patton became a traveling musician, making a minimal earning. He traveled along the Mississippi River, playing at different towns. As Patton gained popularity, he began traveling to Georgia, Texas, Tennessee, Missouri, and Illinois ( The Blues Begin When Patton was growing up, he was determined to leave the racism of the South. His lyrics described some of the themes of his life. He was tired of living a sharecropper's lifestyle. Patton also told about the brutal and harsh conditions that African Americans lived under in the South. The song "Down the Dirt Road Blues" shows just how Patton felt about changing his life (

July 12, 2004 Welcome to the new location for Patton Aircraft on the web. In the coming weeks the site will be updated with more info on our line of kits, including building tips, downloadable instruction manuals, construction photos and pictures of some of the kits our customers have built. Feel free to submit your digital pictures of your planes to be added to the gallery. Be sure to update your bookmarks and come back often to see what's new. Patton Aircraft is now accepting orders for the entire line of kits. Shipping is normally within one week of order. See the order page for ordering information. EPP High Performance Slope Fighters All of the planes from Patton Aircraft have been inspired and designed after the magnificent airframes produced by members of the Allied and Axis forces of World War II. Our planes fly a lot like the real fighters of the Second World War, where high speed, tight turning radius and exceptional climb and dive rates were a must. We have yet to see a foam combat fighter with an equivalent or higher speed than our planes. While combat wings flutter around like blind bats until they half-consciously hit one another, Patton Aircraft's models exhibit dogfighting characteristics as close as they can be to the real aircraft. We hope our kits capture your imagination as you build and fly them, just as they have ours. Patton Aircraft are in a class of their own. As you fly your WWII replica, you will discover both it's strengths and limitations. Your pursuit and dogfighting skills will be sharpened; as you pursue your opponents and send them spiraling to the ground, your smile and a victory roll will say the rest!
