Like Ryan Costello, I am also a server at Outback Steakhouse. While I was appalled when I heard of his termination, I do agree with Notch. Costello could have done more research before he voiced his opinion. When I was hired as a server, the restaurant did not check to see if I had any alcohol violations in the past year. I was not even aware that a law existed against serving alcohol at a restaurant no sooner than two years after a violation in the state of North Carolina. It turns out that the restaurant was not aware of this either. I am a firm believer that the law, is the law and no exceptions should be made. However, it is the duty of the restaurant to be aware of these laws so that they do not hire violators unknowingly. It is also the duty of the ALE to make this law known. I am sure when Costello received an alcohol violation in 2001, he thought that after he paid his fine it was over. If North Carolina wants to enforce this law, they need to make sure violators and restaurant owners are aware of it.

After graduating from Elon, Notch worked for eight months with Mike Mathis Productions in Los Angeles, helping to put together "USC Medical," a television series that will air at 10 p.m. Sundays from April 4-May 9 on the Discovery Health Channel. June will be a big month for Notch, as his wedding aboard a yacht in Newport Beach, Calif., will be filmed and aired at a future date on a series on marriage ceremonies that is being produced for the Lifetime Channel. "How's that for a Hollywood wedding?" Notch asked. He will be marrying Sarah Emerson, a 2002 Elon graduate with a degree in education. Frank Honeybone Review There's a dearth of originality in Honeybone's material. Much of it concerns the dreariness of Wales, in case we needed reminding, and the rest remains on the safe ground of reality TV and the like. He's still a newcomer, but just doesn't come across as a comedy natural, so stock lines like "Did I really say that out loud' or the over-optimistic "You'll be using that tomorrow" seem utterly out of place. Music Mar 6, 2004 I know, I know. Everyone hates those "best of" lists. It's as tacky as putting up your favorite movies on your homepage. But I actually listen to a lot of songs based upon suggestions. With iTMS , Apple's new music store, this is pretty easy too. They play samples for you so you can decide if you like it. Further Pepsi has this deal where you can get free song downloads under the cap. (Tip: if you tip the bottle you can see if your bottle is a winner or not) Anyway, I've downloaded quite a few songs from iTMS the past few weeks and have found some cool bands I'd not heard of before. I've also included a few others I've been playing a lot the last couple of weeks. I originally made this list up for my brother but decided to just paste it here for anyone else who was interested. The Greatness of Nolan Ryan I have been a baseball fan since 1977. The first memory I have of watching baseball on TV was during the World Series that year. The Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees , I would later learn as I educated myself on the subject of baseball history, were facing each other in the Fall Classic for the first time since 1963. That year, the Dodgers, behind the pitching of Sandy Koufax Johnny Podres , and Don Drysdale , swept the Bronx Bombers. The '77 Series, however, marked the birth of "Mr. October", as Reggie Jackson slugged three home runs on three successive pitches in Game 6 to clinch the Series for the Yanks. Less than two years later, on July 13, 1979 , I watched the Yankees on Sunday Night Baseball. They were facing a 32-year old fireballer named Nolan Ryan . That night, he nearly threw his fifth career no-hitter without his best stuff. He "settled" for his 7th one-hitter while striking out 9 in a 6-1 victory. It was this type of performance by the Ryan Express that helped him gain the respect of his peers and the adulation of millions of baseball fans all over the country. Every fifth day, fans came to the ballpark to see if Ryan was going to add another milestone to the baseball record books and a notch to his no-hitter belt. Much to my chagrin, nobody responded to my many attempts to convince the newbie roasters of the advantages of bringing Italians roasts to the "elusive 3rd crack." Met Bronwen Serna (former USBC Champ) and she gave Homeless and I some pretty decent shots, I mean, her technique was flawless (she poured 15-20 shots before serving a single shot to anyone) but I think the beans were a bit dark for my liking. back FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Kate Dwyer July 26, 2001 CONGRESSIONAL HEARING SPOTLIGHTS MAILING SCAMS TARGETING SENIORS Ryan Cautions Seniors About Groups Soliciting Personal Information WASHINGTON – The Subcommittee on Social Security of the House Ways and Means Committee today held a hearing on misleading mailings targeted to seniors. First District Congressman Paul Ryan, who is a member of the Social Security Subcommittee, participated in the hearing, which focused on several deceptive mailings that give the appearance of being approved by the Social Security Administration (SSA) or that falsely promise additional benefits if seniors supply personal information. The Inspector General of the Social Security Administration was among those who testified at the hearing; he discussed misleading mailings and flyers that his office has investigated. These include a flyer targeted to "notch babies" promising them, as a result of a bill proposed in the Senate, either a lump sum settlement of $5,000 or higher Social Security benefits. (The term "notch babies" refers to people born between 1917 and 1926. In the late 1970's, Congress changed the Social Security benefits structure, and some argue that one unintended consequence was lower benefits for "notch babies.") The hoax flyer warns that in order to get the higher benefits or lump sum, seniors must provide their name, address, phone number, date of birth, and Social Security number in order to be placed on a "National Victim's Register."
