The Salkinds (who produced the Superboy series as well as the first three Superman fims) wanted to make a "Young Superman" movie after the fourth season of "Superboy," which conflicted with Warners' plans for "Lois and Clark." As a result, the studio claimed that the Salkinds didn't have the rights to produce a television show or telefilm based on the character of Superman, took it to court, and placed a lien on the show. It's been sitting in a vault ever since, and the WB will probably never let it see the light of day (at least, not in a legally released form like DVD, video, or syndicated television). If the studio did release the series on DVD, they'd also probably have to pay royalties to the entire cast along with Alexander Salkind's heirs (if they inherited anything after all of his shady deals). It's sad, actually. But that was pretty much the last thing I heard about the show being released on DVD (or being televised again).
