Defending Public Surveillance Cameras
By Rob on July 31, 2005 at 10:17 am Heather Mac Donald Will the civil libertarians please shut up now? If they had had their way, London’s public surveillance cameras would have been unplugged long ago, and the British police would not have quickly identified the 7/7 suicide bombers from their pictures in the King’s Cross and Luton train stations—a breakthrough crucial to tracking down other participants in the plot. The London attacks have exposed the privacy fanatics’ campaign against public cameras as folly; it is just a matter of time before reality crushes other civil libertarian excesses as well, including opposition to data mining and to immigration law enforcement. Read the whole thing. I have long disagreed with privacy activists over public surveillance cameras. The fourth amendment I believe Mac Donald is right in that the 7/7 London terror attacks vindicated the use of these cameras. In my estimation there is no valid constitutional argument for prohibiting them and a whole world of good arguments (terror prevention chief among them) for using them. Related Posts:

ACCLAIMED COMEDIAN TO PERFORM AT PRINCETON FOR PRIDE WEEK
Rob Nash jokes his way through acting, imitations and interviews
Dan Weitz
Princetonian Contributor
Nash's repertoire of impressions also includes Ronald Reagan, Snagglepuss and a gay Morris the Cat. He seamlessly wove all of these into a recent stand-up act on Comedy Central. But Nash is also an accomplished actor, having toured extensively with his critically acclaimed one-man shows.
"A stand-up who acts has an edge," Nash said. "He or she can sell more subtle humor to an audience. If the humor isn't in the words, but how you endow the words or the physical expression on your face or body, the comic who can act has more opportunities for laughs."
Nash will have the opportunity to show off both his stand-up and solo performance talents at Princeton. He will appear Thursday as part of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Week at Princeton. Nash draws extensively from his life when he writes his material. The characters in his series of four coming-of-age plays are based on the collective experiences of Nash and his friends during their stint at a Catholic high school in Houston. The series begins with the aptly named scene "Freshman Year Sucks!" and follows the lives of Ben, George and Johnny through "Senioritis," the final piece.

Exhibitionism
BY WAYNE ALAN BRENNER
December 28, 2001:
Rob Nash Does Romeo and Juliet: The Power of One
The Vortex, through January 5 Running Time: 1 hr, 15 min
This show isn't a rollicking laff fest, friends. That's not a problem, actually not a problem at all but I thought it would be a rollicking laff fest, because I'm previously unfamiliar with Rob Nash's work except for what I've heard on the radio, and what I heard on the radio was a hilarious, multivoiced story that was set in the more guffaw-provoking arena of pure farce. Rob Nash's Holy Cross cast doing Romeo and Juliet is something else again. Nash, you should know, is one talented man. In most of the shows he's done, the emphasis falls equally on both words: "talented" and "one." Nash brings to life on stage, just by himself, an entire community of diverse people and draws the audience into a world as well fleshed-out as the nascent stages (at least) of Garrison Keillor's Lake Wobegon. Well, there are no Norwegian bachelor farmers here, but there are: students in a Catholic school in Houston, the clergical faculty and staff of that school, and the families and surrounding neighborhoods inhabited by those Holy Crossers. The sexual orientation and escapades of these characters is often touched on, and they fall into four distinct categories: gay, straight, closeted, and confused. The relational, emotional, societal, and other orientations of these folks are even more varied, and what Nash does, unlike Keillor who "merely" tells what's happening, is

Star Wars . But one a year, not one every three years. And in high school in the Eighties, not in a galaxy far, far away." Well, Hollywood wasn't exactly clamoring for Nash's inventive work, even though he was doing his best to make it in Los Angeles. So rather than wait for the studios to come to their senses, Nash set out to create four stage plays, one for each year of high school, to test his writing skills and abilities as a performer. (He would play all the characters dozens of them in each play.) Earlier this year, he completed Junior Blues , which he premiered at the Vortex, as he did with Freshman Year Sucks! and Sophomore Slump . Now comes Senioritis , the last installment of his tale of three friends wending their way from youth to adulthood in the morass of emotions and bodily fluids that is a typical high school. "I based the adventures of Ben, George, and Johnny on me and two of my best friends from high school," says Nash. "We were just jumping-off points. Immediately, with the first installment, Freshman Year Sucks!

Solo performers Greg Walloch and Rob Nash share this double bill of humor. Walloch's White Disabled Talent is a funny, ironic commentary on life from the point of view of a twenty-first century, disabled, gay man. Nash performs his show, Senioritis . It's 1954, do you know where your teenager is? Will Ben stay closeted and join the seminary? Will George join the army to show his ROTC sergeant he's no "dirt eatin' shit eatin' worm?" Will Johnny give up his dream of bein a writer and marry Maria? See the show already, and find out!

Rob Nash provides a funny and knowing look at Freshman Year
Joey Guerra Entertainment Editor
Theater Review
For those who haven't completely blocked it out of their memories, high school often seems like one long, hellish torture ritual in retrospect. Getting in with the "in" crowd, wearing the right clothes, listening to the coolest music and keeping your grades up may have seemed par for the course back then, but now it all seems like a twisted set of agonizing steps in some weird ritual. Those who weren't up for it were inevitably thrown to the wolves. Rob Nash remembers what it's like, and he wants everyone else to reminisce as well. In Freshman Year Sucks! , Nash centers in on three high-school archetypes for an inspiring, occasionally funny look back at that dreaded first year. The strength of Nash's one-man show, which is the first installment of his Holy Cross Quadrilogy, is in his performance. He zips through over two dozen characters, sharply defining each one through facial expressions, body language, speech or a combination of all three. It's often just funny to watch him switch back and forth between characters. Nash gives us three unlikely friends as his central characters, "Our Heroes" as he calls them in the program. George is an unassuming schmuck with family problems; Johnny is the jock with a hidden talent for writing poetry; and Ben is a shy, awkward wallflower who is having trouble coping with his sexual orientation. In usual high-school fashion, the three become fast friends despite their distinct differences.

Nash's one-man play comments on society
by Eric James Daily Cougar Staff Stages Repertory Theatre has brought back, by popular demand, Rob Nash's one-man show, 12 Steps to a More Dysfunctional You. The play attacks the craze of 12-step programs and severe psychotherapy sessions that are taking the country by storm. The piece is performed and written by Rob Nash. He plays six characters throughout the play, distinguishing each with a change in voice and the adjustment of an orange, button-down sweater. First introduced to the audience is Mildred. She is fresh off the talk show circuit of Geraldo and is celebrating the divorce from her husband. She talks about her family in Houston, her son Billy and his family, and her other son, Freddy, who disappeared three years ago in San Francisco. After this introduction to the family, we travel to Houston and meet the in-laws. Despite the fact that Billy, a recovering alcoholic, is Mildred's son, we never meet him. Instead, we meet his wife, Margot, daughter Ashley, and son Matt. These three have been hit hard by their father's drinking, and we find them now in the wake of his sobriety. Margot is trying desperately to keep her family together and insists that they all stay in therapy. Meanwhile, she contemplates abandoning therapy herself.
