Musgrave, 93, of Jackson died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girar-deau. She was born Nov. 29, 1908, in Bokerton, Mo., daughter of J.W. and Mary "Molly" Herase Nicholas. She and Daniel Musgrave were married June 17, 1954, in Cape Girardeau. He died April 3, 1993. She was a manager at Dairy Castle and a member of St. Mary's Council of Catholic Women. Survivors include one niece, Helen M. Meyer and her husband, Thomas L. Meyer, of Cape Girardeau; five great-nieces, Mary Jean McIntyre of St. Louis, Janie Meyer of Cape Girardeau, Deborah J. Joyce of Farmington, Mo.; Beth McFerron of Cape Girardeau and Madonna J. Boyd of Las Cruces, N.M.; and two great-nephews, Thomas M. Meyer of Cape Girardeau and David L. Meyer of Cape Girardeau. She was preceded in death by one sister, Lilly M. Giroir; one brother, Harvey C. Nicholas; and seven nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at Lorberg Memorial Funeral Chapel in Cape Girardeau with parish prayers at 7 p.m. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Cathedral with Monsignor Richard Rolwing officiating. Last year former President Gerald Ford spoke to more than 150 local high school students. In 1983, Dr. Musgrave was chosen to man the shuttle Challenger on its maiden flight. He currently holds the record as the only NASA astronaut to fly all five shuttles. Mit einem leichten Pullover bekleidet stand ich an der Reeling eines großen, weißen Katamarans im Hafen von Bundaberg in Queensland und blickte auf das geschäftige Treiben auf dem Anlegesteg. Diese Art Katamaran bestand aus zwei Decks und war fast völlig geschlossen. Nur am Heck auf dem unteren Deck hatte man die Möglichkeit, sich den Wind um die Nase wehen zu lassen. Die enorme Fahrgeschwindigkeit mit der sie durch das Wasser pflügten, ließ ein offenes Sonnendeck nicht zu. Auf dem Parkplatz vor dem Anlegesteg hielt ein Doppeldeckerbus. Lautstark schnatternd und gestikulierend entstieg eine Gruppe chinesischer Touristen. Im Gänsemarsch eilten sie über den Steg und kamen auf den Katamaran zu. Einer nach dem Anderen liefen sie die Treppe zum Oberdeck hinauf. Das Fassungsvermögen des Doppeldeckers schien endlos und als endlich der letzte Chinese im Oberdeck verschwunden war, sah sich ihr Reiseleiter noch einmal zu allen Seiten nach einem verlorengegangenen Schäflein um und schloss die Tür. Am liebsten hätte ich dort ein Schild mit der Aufschrift: "Eintritt nur mit robustem Magen" angebracht. Nun waren sie wieder da und ich hoffte, dass sie hinter der verschlossenen Tür ihres Oberdecks bleiben mögen.

Marooned on an Idyllic Island During a Cyclone A True Story by Archie and Lou Gibson Lady Musgrave Island is a true coral cay situated off the east coast of Australia 37 miles east of the Town of 1770 and 62 miles northeast of the city of Bundaberg. This 35 acre island is surrounded on all sides by a breathtakingly beautiful 3,000 acre coral lagoon which is unique to the entire Great Barrier Reef region. A National and Marine Park, Lady Musgrave Island and her surrounding waters are filled with over 1,200 varieties of brilliantly colored marine fish and over 200 species of both soft and hard coral. The tree lined canopy of the island is home to thousands of migratory sea birds with the coral sand beaches creating a major offshore nesting area for green loggerhead sea turtles. There is a national park camping ground on the western side of the island, but there is no water, electricity, or other facilities except for a bush toilet. Enticed by the brochures, we learn that there are two companies that run day cruises to Lady Musgrave Island. The 51 foot "M.V. Spirit of 1770" departs from the Town of 1770 and takes 1.5 hours each way, and the 79 foot "M.V. Lady Musgrave" departs from Bundaberg and takes 2.7 hours each way. They will drop off and pickup campers but charge each person two round trip cruise fares. Having a yearning for adventure, we plan a four night camping trip. The M.V. Spirit of 1770 is planning a cruise the next day so we book with them. They charge our Visa credit card the $284 for four round trip tickets and tell us that they will provide our drinking water. We purchase a national park camping permit for $4.50 per day and drive to a motel in Agnes Waters near the Town of 1770. While at the motel we condense our camping gear so that we have only one large duffel bag and an ice chest, both items fitting nicely on our large luggage cart.

Astronaut Musgrave to give program here Former astronaut Story Musgrave will give a unique presentation titled "An Artist’s View of the Universe" on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 6 p.m. at the Bomhard Theater at the Kentucky Center for the Arts. The program, sponsored by Star Bank, will merge a slide presentation with a lecture and performance art. It is produced by the Jefferson County University of Kentucky Alumni Club and the Filson Club Historical Society.
