'Bush should have died, not Reagan': Morrissey
CONTROVERSIAL: Morrissey MANCHESTER music legend Morrissey sparked controversy when he announced Ronald Reagan's death live on stage during a concert - and then declared he wished it was George Bush who had died instead.
Thousands of fans at Dublin Castle, in Ireland, cheered when the ex-Smiths frontman made the announcement that the former American president, who had battled with Alzheimer's Disease, had passed away.
And an even bigger cheer followed when Morrissey - who is no stranger to controversy - then said he wished it had been the current President, George W Bush, who had died.
Fan Tony Murray said: "He commented about the death of Ronald Reagan and when he wished that it was George W instead the crowd went wild."
The Dublin concert was the latest leg of Morrissey's European tour, which began at the M.E.N. Arena last month when the ever-popular performer made his first appearance in the city for 12 years.
He is due to appear at the Move festival at Old Trafford cricket ground next month.

Morrissey: "The Best of Morrissey" Wea/Rhino Records
With the break-up of the Smiths in 1987, one could have concluded that Morrissey would be just another casualty signifying the end of the '80s. This album is truly an overview of this pop icon who is a champion of the underdogs. His legions of hardcore fans have adapted his mantras and personal philosophies as their own, holding them close to their heart. This is however not the first best-of album from Morrissey's solo endeavours. Like the Smiths, compilations are a common feature in Morrissey's solo career, including works such as The World of Morrissey and Suedehead: the Best of Morrissey . Unlike those however, Morrissey hand-picked certain songs to be included on this release. Previous compilations were done, often without his permission, during his stormy relationships with past labels. Sponsored Links EMusic FREE Trial MP3 Subscriptions Market your band or artist ... at EMusic The obvious titles are on this album, such as "Suedehead" and "Everyday is Like Sunday,” alongside more interesting romps inside the mind of a man who has at times been considered a bit fragile emotionally. He is not the shrinking violet, misanthrope hiding in his mother's basement who the world did not love enough. On the contrary, his music suggests a person who whole-heartedly embraces the vast array of human qualities and does not pretend to be ashamed of them. To see his lyrics as morose or depressing misses the point entirely as he describes the human condition in ways which are only now entering the minds of those in our pop culture world.

Morrissey comments spark Bush fire
CONTROVERSIAL: Morrissey MORRISSEY has caused outrage in America with his controversial remarks to a concert audience about the death of Ronald Reagan.
The ex-frontman of Manchester band The Smiths announced the death of the former US president at a concert in Dublin - then said he wished it had been President George W Bush who had died instead.
A report of his remarks in the M.E.N. was picked up from this website by the US website the Drudge Report and has spread like wildfire across the internet.
Now Morrissey, who once sang of having the "21st century breathing down my neck" has found himself facing a 21st-century backlash. Support Record numbers of internet users in America contacted our website to complain about the 45-year-old singer's comments. However, there were also some messages of support for Morrissey.
The story has been viewed nearly 500,000 times in just 24 hours.

Interview with Neil Young.
http://www.jigsawlounge.co.uk/film/dmorris.html
David Morrissey interview David Morrissey sips Guinness in the back-room of a comfortably shabby north-London boozer. He’s 37, he’s from Liverpool, and, according to Variety magazine, he’s a “superb” actor, comparable with Jimmy Stewart at his best… But for too many he’s “David who?” Track down Holding On , BBC2’s 1997 miniseries where he plays a tax inspector whose life spirals out of control - it’s one of the decade’s great performances, right up there with the best celluloid can offer. But, to paraphrase another David, he’s an actor, not a movie-star. Captain Corelli’s Mandolin , in which he plays the Nazi, Gunther Weber, might just change all that, For now, though he’s content to pass anonymously in his local. Fame isn’t the spur: “I like to act, because I can forget about everything else. I did a play last year, a couple of movies, some telly, some radio. I don’t differentiate – for me, the script is everything.” Right now he’s directing Paul McGann in Sweet Revenge , a BBC thriller, while planning a movie of The Wild based on a novel by his long-time partner, Esther Freud.

Alan Whyte said: "It's going to be a great album. Think the fans will be really, really excited. I personally think it's the best Morrissey album to date." Morrissey and his band have recorded almost 30 songs in Oxfordshire 's Hook End Manor with producer Jerry Finn Whyte told BBC 's 6 Music : "It's kind of like a cross between 'Your Arsenal' and musically - there's real variety there. There are some slow songs, some uptempo ones and a few real tough-sounding tracks." New song titles expected to appear on the album include 'My Life Is A Series Of People Saying Goodbye' 'Teenage Dad On His Estate' and 'Don't Make Fun Of Daddy's Voice' As previously reported on NME.COM

Morrissey in love and hate
Updated here 1999.06.20 In the Smiths and on his own, Stephen Patrick Morrissey has charted expeditions into the heaving waters of emotion. His songs are anecdotes of anguish, resentment and sarcasm, and superhuman despair. For Morrissey, pleasure comes in spurts; it's not something to depend on. These are feelings people can identify with, and they run parallel to his archly-expressed gay subtexts. Morrissey's alienation from society's cherished life of love makes him a unique voice in queer pop. Morrissey finds nothing more gratifying than the trappings of bygone-era stardom (James Dean is an idol); this fixation has taught him a thing or two about being famous. Ironically, though, stardom invites mass love, while it is actually a deeply personal love that Morrissey craves above all. This duality comes to life in concert: The star system Morrissey so adores will invariably divide the world into Hero and Public, but even a hall the size of New York's Madison Square Garden throbs with an adoration from latter to former. A Beatles concert is a study in alienation compared to the love-in of a Morrissey show. Rushing the stage is part of the frisson of any pop concert, but the stage-diving in a Morrissey show adopts the overtones of pilgrimage. Desperate, almost redemptive efforts to storm the stage and kiss the Hero on his pale Mancunian face are part of the ritual, and it's telling that in the concerts I've seen, three out of five kids who planted their lips on his cheek were boys.
