B C D ... Z by birthday from the calendar Credits and feedback James Douglas 'Jim' Morrison (1943-1971) American rock singer and rock lyric who achieved after his death a cult position among fans. Morrison wished to be accepted as a serious artist, and he published such collections of poetry as An American Prayer (1970) and The Lords and The New Creatures (1971). The song lyrics Morrison wrote for The Doors much reflected the tensions of the time - drug culture, the antiwar movement, avant-garde art. With his early death Morrison has been seen as a voluntary victim of the destructive forces in pop culture. However, he was not ignorat about the consequences of fame and his position as an idol. Morrison once confessed that "We're more interested in the dark side of life, the evil thing, the night time." "This is the end, beautiful friend.
It hurts to set you free,
But you'll never follow me.
The end of laughter and soft lies.
The end of nights we tried to die.
This is the... end."

He was the Lizard King, and he could do anything. Well, except live past the age of 27. But other than that, sky's the limit! Besides, that whole "death" thing is pretty questionable. James Douglas Morrison was born in 1943 to a Navy admiral, of all people, and he grew up as an army brat, moving around from base to base and rarely forming lasting friendships. His father was a strict disciplinarian, which just goes to show that strict discipline is a pretty useless parenting technique. As a child, Morrison's family had a jarring experience when they drove past a truck accident in the desert which had killed several Indians, who lay dying along the side of the highway. In Morrison's own words: "Me and my mother and father, and a grandmother and a grandfather, were driving through the desert, at dawn, and a truck load of Indian workers had either hit another car, or just — I don't know what happened — but there were Indians scattered all over the highway, bleeding to death. So the car pulls up and stops. That was the first time I tasted fear. I musta' been about four — like a child is like a flower, his head is floating in the breeze, man. The reaction I get now thinking about it, looking back — is that the souls of the ghosts of those dead Indians... maybe one or two of 'em... were just running around freaking out, and just leaped into my soul. And they're still in there." Certainly, the incident left lasting scars on the young Lizard King's psyche; he would return to the incident again and again in his writing, most famously in the Doors song "Peace Frog":

Biography: James Douglas Morrison (1943-1974) J ames Doug las Morrison was born in Melbourne, Florida December 8, 1943 to Clara and Steve Morrison. Clara was a housewife and daughter of a lawyer. Steve was an officer in the U.S. Navy. Jim had two younger siblings: a brother, Andy, and a sister, Anne. Anne was the youngest of the three. Jim, at an early age, was a fervent reader. Although he exhibited great leadership and intelligence, he also showed a tendency to challenge authority. This disrespect of authority led him to get kicked out of Cub Scouts for tormenting the Den Mother through constant misbehaving. Because of the position Jim's father had in the military, the family was required to move often due to transfer orders. The family moved from Florida, to New Mexico, and eventually to Alexandria, Virginia in 1958. While in Virginia, Jim continued to clown and heckle in and out of class. He became quite popular amongst his classmates, and eventually met Tandy Martin, his first girlfriend. During this time in Virginia, Jim also continued to read. He found interest in Nietzsche, Plutarch, Ginsberg, Michael McClure, James T. Farrell's Studs Lonigan, James Joyce's Ulysses, Balzac, and the French Symbolists (most important of these poets being Arthur Rimbaud , about who Morrison would write the song Wild Child about). By the time he reached the age of fifteen, Jim was writing poetry, painting, and was identified as having an I.Q. of 149. During this time he also made a habit of sneaking out of his house at night to go to sleazy bars downtown and listen to blues musicians.
