BBC Europe correspondent Chris Morris has been one of the BBC's Europe correspondents since 2001. Prior to this he was the BBC's Turkey correspondent.
Chris joined the BBC in 1988 in the World Service radio newsroom. From 1990-92 he was Sri Lanka Correspondent based in Colombo, covering Sri Lanka's civil war and other stories in South Asia such as the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, and the rise of Hindu nationalism. In 1994 he became the BBC State Department correspondent, based in Washington, and travelling around the world with the US Secretary of State. Chris covered crises in Haiti and North Korea, frequently visited the Middle East, and reported on the Dayton peace talks which ended the civil war in Bosnia Hercegovina. He also covered Bill Clinton's victory in the 1996 US Presidential elections. From 1997-2001 he was the BBC's Turkey Correspondent, living first in Ankara and then opening the BBC's new bureau in Istanbul. The stories he covered included the two massive earthquakes which hit north-western Turkey in 1999, and the arrest and trial of the Kurdish rebel leader Abdullah Ocalan. As a BBC Europe correspondent Chris covers European politics and diplomacy, including EU enlargement and the debate about the proposed European constitution, as well as breaking news stories across the continent such as the Madrid train bombings in 2004, and the murder of the Swedish Foreign Minister Anna Lindt in 2003.

By Chris Morris From the New Statesman I believe that there is an explanation for the gay lobby's lack of political progress. The responsibility lies with a small group of businessmen who have a major financial interest in keeping lesbian and gay people on the fringes of society - where they are most profitable. Welcome to the real gay Mafia. Gay business, or the 'Pink Pound' as it has crudely become known, is big business. Richard Branson owns Britain's largest gay nightclub, and hundreds of other investors are opening gay shops, restaurants and bars in the knowledge that fortunes have already been made by tapping into the gay market. Many people believe that these companies provide powerful examples of how integrated society has become; how successful and accepted gay people are in Tony Blair's

Chris Morris Chris Morris has been described as a 'comedy genius'. He's also been called 'the most loathed man on TV'. He's certainly an iconoclast - his work marks the beginning of the comedy renaissance that began in the early nineties with shows like Radio 4's On The Hour and its' TV counterpart, The Day Today. One of the most revered figures of the 'new generation' of comedians, he's an enigmatic figure. After a Zoology degree at Bristol University and a stint on local radio stations including Radio Bristol and GLR, Morris was sacked a number of times after a litany of pranks and stunts infuriated bosses. He then turned up on Radio 4 with the ground-breaking On the Hour. The television commission from this series, The Day Today, was made up of much the same cast and featured, amongst others, Steve Coogan in his first screen outing as Alan Partridge. The series was produced by Armando Iannucci, later seen as the frontman on Friday/Saturday Night Armistice and The Armando Iannucci Shows. After the success of The Day Today, Morris returned to radio with Blue Jam, (transmitted by Radio 1 in the small hours) and the TV spin-off, Jam.

Chris Morris has emerged as one of the most astute, and controversial, satirists of his age. With credits such as On The Hour, The Day Today, Jam and Brass Eye under his belt, his brand of humour is frequently dark and uncomfortable, as Andrew Walker of the BBC's News Profiles Unit explains.
There can be no doubt about Christopher Morris's abilities. Performer, writer, journalist, musician, he is at the centre of a loose group of cutting-edge artists which includes Steve Coogan, alter ego of Alan Partridge, the playwright Patrick Marber and Doon Mackichan of the Smack The Pony team. But, while the others are showered with plaudits, Chris Morris has ploughed his own controversial furrow as television's ultimate taboo-breaker. Brass Eye: near the knuckle
His most recent Brass Eye, dealing with paedophilia, has been branded by The Sun newspaper as the "sickest TV ever". If Chris Morris set out to rattle a few cages, he has clearly succeeded. But Brass Eye is only the latest in a long list of superbly-crafted, if outrageous, hoaxes perpetrated by Morris. His comedy is unsettling and often disturbing, ridiculing the medium as much as the message, more Lenny Bruce than Lenny Henry.

    31. Activism And The Gay Age Of Consent
chris morris, who campaigned successfully to equalise the age of consent in Britain, tells his own story.
    http://www.chrismorris.com/ageofconsent.htm
Activism and the Gay Age of Consent
    THIS PART OF MY LIFE
began in 1995 when I was 16. I had just moved to London when I was approached by Stonewall, the gay rights group, to take a test case to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). They asked me to protest that the unequal age of consent – 18 for gay men and 16 for heterosexuals at the time – was contrary to international law and a violation of my human rights. I saw it as an opportunity to do something worthwhile and also get to know other young people in London. So began five years of activism. The case was lodged with the ECHR and I was immediately door stopped by two journalists from the Daily Mail . I spent much of the following two years doing talks and interviews about what it was like to be young and gay. I tried to be honest. I believed that the root cause of most prejudice was ignorance and that the solution was therefore education. I wanted to challenge the stereotype of "dirty old men" chasing "vulnerable children" and persuade people that the unequal age of consent did not protect young gay people, as many well-meaning people believed. Far from it, in fact - the inequality created a climate where teenagers could not ask for advice, felt isolated and risked a criminal record for doing the same things that their straight friends were doing quite legally. There was a symbolic message in that too: that being young and gay was wrong while being young and straight was right. By changing the law, I believed we would be one step closer to smashing that belief.

As is true of many of the people in this list, Chris is one of the people I don't remember specifically ever meeting or hearing about. I just know that she's always been among us. Chris has always impressed me with they way she can go out of her way to help people. She gives good advice and is very practical about things. I feel like she's drawing on some ancient wisdom that only a select few people are ever allowed access to. One of the things that Chris and I both shared was a common hatred for a certain professor of the German language. At one point in her academic career, Chris was a German major. I was not a German major, but I did have to take a few German classes to satisfy my foreign language requirement (as if Pascal, COBOL, C++, and Perl aren't enough). She "felt my pain" in trying to deal with my first German class at BGSU . At times she was my walking, living, breathing German to English dictionary. I don't know if I ever said thanks for all that.

Money archives ... Commentary Imaginary worlds. Real cash. January 16, 2002: 12:08 p.m. ET Publishers aren't the only ones profiting from online games By Chris Morris NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Manalope the Vicar is a level 60 cleric in Sony's online role playing game "Everquest." He's got amulets and magic rings out the wazoo, more hit-points than he knows what to do with and is the proud owner of the chestplate of vindication. And he's about to make his creator significantly richer. Manalope's for sale on eBay - and as of Wednesday morning, he had bids totaling $2,000, with five days left in the auction. That same day, a level 60 warrior will be sold. Current bid price: $1,200. Auction sales of online characters have been going on for a couple of years. They are a good indicator, though, of how gamers are finding ways to make money off of their hobby. "It does surprise me that people are willing to spend that much," said Dustin Schwartz, a 19 year old who's selling the Manalope account for a friend. "But people are lazy and they don't want to spend a ton of time to create a character." Publishers, historically, have frowned on character auction sales, saying it detracts from the spirit of the game. They're probably also not real happy about the practice since they don't see any return from the sales. But the publisher of an upcoming massively multiplayer online role playing game is trying to change the rules.

    Chris Morris
in a hospital in NYC/ kilt him a rat when he was only three...
You've heard of me, it's just that sometimes you're not sure where, from whom, or under what name. And because I have to protect my identities, there's only a little bit I can tell you. I became seriously interested in firearms a few minutes after I watched a policeman annihilate a copperhead nesting in a cinderblock outside my childhood home in Westchester, New York. I've got a permit to carry in Massachusetts, the most repressive-gun-law state in the U. S. I'm an Amcit; my passport's valid. I play guitar and synthesizers, as well as write. I've made some records, been contractor for some famous and not-so-famous rock and fusion bands, had my own Chris Morris band, done TV and radio spots. Now I'm doing a lot of computer-based composing and in general revelling in the vast possibilities afforded by the advent of MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interfacing). I started writing about the same time as Janet, but didn't publish under my own name until I co-wrote with her. She wanted to do some harder-edged stuf and didn't feel it would be an easy sell with a solo female byline. Janet and I have a forthcoming Hell novel called The Little Helliad due out late next year. I'm working on my first non-pseudonymous thriller, Slapback, at the moment about a field collector whose cover is that of a guitarist who gigs as a sideman in Europe and the Third World. We've already had some interest in the premise, for a possible series. I've also done some scripts most recently, with Janet, a feature film for ZZ Top which, like any TV or movie project, gets in the pipeline and lands in the twilight zone; whether it'll be made is in the laps of the gods.
