Short Takes Blog I read a story yesterday that caused me to bang my head repeatedly on the table, triggering a sort of reverse "Flowers for Algernon" effect. Apparently, Arizona is experiencing a heat wave, with temperatures around 110 degrees for the past week. Believe it or not, I'm jealous. Here in Massachusetts, temperatures have been in the 40s or 50s almost the entire monthor 10 to 20 degrees below normaland it's been raining, every ... single ... day, for a week. I suddenly understand the somewhat suicidal feelings that overcome people in the Pacific Northwest, although I know from experience that it's never this bad there. Anyway, thanks to the record-breaking weather, I've had enough. I need sun. I need it now. Update: As I wrote this, the sun peeked out from behind the mantel of clouds that has blanketed this area for a week. Because my request for sun worked, I'll try another request: I need money. I need it now.

Resurrection Eggs
from the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis Office of Marriage and Family Life website
Materials Needed: Plastic eggs, a basket, story objects that can fit in the eggs from the list below, a permanent marker, 8-10- carpet squares.
Object Ideas: a small cross, nails, a small sponge dipped I vinegar, coins, (Judas or the thief on the cross), black cloth ( the temple curtain or dark day), a small grapevine wreath (crown of thorns), flowers (Easter), a small numeral 3 (three days), a small piece of evergreen (palm branch), a cracker ( Last Supper), a stone, and any other objects you wish to use to tell the Easter story.
Directions: Put the story object in the eggs. Be sure to leave one egg empty (the empty tomb). Using the permanent marker, number the eggs in the order of the Easter story. (The number of the eggs you use will depend on the number of objects you choose from the list and also on the attention span of the children in your group.) Place the eggs in the basket.
To Use: Put the carpet squares on the floor in the shape of a cross. Have the children sit in a circle around the cross. Take egg number one out of the basket, open it, and tell the first part of the story. Pass the object around the circle so that all the children get a change to hold it. When it gets to the last child, have him or her place it on the carpet square cross. Continue until the basket is empty. Join hands in the circle and close with prayer. When your devotion time is over, place the objects in your worship area. ( In groups, older children can take turns choosing an egg and explaining the role of the object it contains to each other.)

44. The Unofficial Paul Krugman Web Page
New York Times columnist and economist paul Krugman reads through the rhetoric and finds the privatization scheme is really a government loan that may leave retirees with little or nothing.
http://www.pkarchive.org/column/020405.html
Gambling With Your Retirement postCount('020405'); SYNOPSIS: A few weeks ago I tried to explain the logic of Bush-style Social Security privatization: it is, in effect, as if your financial adviser told you that you wouldn't have enough money when you retire - but you shouldn't save more. Instead, you should borrow a lot of money, buy stocks and hope for capital gains. Before President Bush's big speech, a background briefing by a "senior administration official" made it clear that the plan calls for exactly the "borrow, speculate and hope" strategy I described - not just for the system as a whole, but for each individual. Here's the money quote: "In return for the opportunity to get the benefits from the personal account, the person forgoes a certain amount of benefits from the traditional system. Now, the way that election is structured, the person comes out ahead if their personal account exceeds a 3 percent rate of return" - after inflation - "which is the rate of return that the trust fund bonds receive. So, basically, the net effect on an individual's benefits would be zero if his personal account earned a 3 percent rate of return." Translation: If you put part of your payroll taxes into a personal account, your future benefits will be reduced by an amount equivalent to the amount you would have had to repay if you had borrowed the money at a real interest rate of 3 percent.

48. CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Marcionites
Said that the creator god of the Old Testament was not the good God and Father of Jesus Christ of the New Testament. Had their own shadow hierarchy and their own Bible, which consisted of parts of Luke and paul, edited so as to disparage the Old Testament. Only the unmarried were allowed to be baptized. Marcionism may have led to the formation of the Apostle's Creed as rebuttal, and certainly was an incentive in deciding on the canon of the New Testament.

Marcionites
Heretical sect founded in A.D. 144 at Rome by Marcion and continuing in the West for 300 years, but in the East some centuries longer, especially outside the Byzantine Empire. They rejected the writings of the Old Testament and taught that Christ was not the Son of the God of the Jews , but the Son of the good God, who was different from the God of the Ancient Covenant. They anticipated the more consistent dualism of Manichaeism and were finally absorbed by it. As they arose in the very infancy of Christianity and adopted from the beginning a strong ecclesiastical organization, parallel to that of the Catholic Church, they were perhaps the most dangerous foe Christianity has ever known. The subject will be treated under the following heads: I. Life of Marcion;
II. Doctrine and Discipline;
III. History;
IV. Mutilation of the New Testament;
V. Anti-Marcionite Writers. I. LIFE OF MARCION Marcion was son of the Bishop of Sinope in Pontus, born c. A.D. 110, evidently from wealthy parents. He is described as nautes, nauclerus

Historical EXPLOITS and Countermeasures
From 1939 to 1945 the U-Boats of the Third Reich menaced the North Atlantic by stealth and firepower. The US Merchant Marine were repeatedly attacked with thousands of lives lost and the British Navy helplessly watched ship after ship sent to the bottom of the ocean. By early 1943 the US Navy arrived with the ultimate countermeasure, the B-24 Liberator equipped with the latest technology, sonar (acronym for SOund, NAvigation and Ranging) and depth charges. The U-Boats were decimated and the tide of war changed.

54. Pope John Paul II   17  May 1992   Beatification Of Josemaria Escriva De Ba
Apostolic Brief on the Beatification of the Venerable Servant of God Josemaria Escriva de Balaguer, Priest, Founder of Opus Dei on 17 may 1992.
http://www.ewtn.com/library/papaldoc/jp2beati.htm
APOSTOLIC BRIEF John Paul II Beatification of the Venerable Servant of God Josemaria Escriva de Balaguer, Priest, Founder of Opus Dei As and everlasting memorial. The Church, which is sent to establish the kingdom of Christ among all peoples (cf. Second Vatican Council, Dogmatic Constitution Lumen Gentium , 5), is "the universal sacrament of salvation, at once manifesting and actualizing the mystery of God's love for men" (Second Vatican Council, Pastoral Constitution Gaudium et Spes The message of Venerable Josemaria Escriva expresses, is an admirable and most fitting way, the universal nature of the mystery of salvation: "He calls each and every one to holiness; he asks each and every one to love him: young and old, single and married, healthy and sick, learned and unlearned, no matter where they work, or where they are" ( Friends of God , 294). In proclaiming the radical nature of the baptismal vocation, he opened up new ways for a deeper Christianization of society, the founder of Opus Dei pointed out that the universal nature of the call to full union with Christ means that one can find God in any human activity. Work, therefore, takes on a central role in Christian sanctification and apostolate. The special connection between the dynamism of human actions and supernatural grace shows clearly how the supernatural life of union with Christ occupies a central place, while it also leads the faithful to make a determined effort to transform the world. In this context, Venerable Josemaria Escriva has highlighted all the redemptive power of the faith, and its capacity to transform both individuals and the social structures in which men and women work out their ideals and their ambitions.

You are NOT crazy. If you have fibromyalgia you are ill. You may have been told that whatever you have seems untreatable. You may have been overmedicated by well-intentioned health care providers who wanted desperately to help you. You may have fallen victim to some of the many folks who are making billions of dollars a year off your desperate search for something, anything, that helps.
We are here to help. We provide educational materials based on a lifetime of work by R. Paul St. Amand, MD, treating fibromyalgia. We raise money to fund legitimate fibromyalgia research. Our mission is to increase knowledge, reduce frustration and most important, to help. Your quality of life is extremely important to us.
We are gratified that the number of people and organizations devoted to helping fibromyalgics has grown enormously. Treatment of fibromyalgia has become a multi-billion dollar industry and we have no objection to profit. However, conflicting information provided by marketers regarding the guaifenesin protocol can be harmful. If, after thorough investigation you and your doctor determine that implementing the guaifenesin protocol is appropriate for you, it is critically important that it be adhered to precisely. Please

So, what makes a better sequel to a racing game? Basically, not much in this case. Apart from the necessary visual enhancements, gamers will unquestionably expect new tracks and vehicles, and 4x4 Evolution 2 has just that, along with some additional features. A word from our sponsors:
Go further if you dare!
Watch those babies fly... Essentially, the purpose throughout the game remained the same: to show your racing skills and win cash prizes that will allow you to upgrade your base truck into a more efficient off-road vehicle. Relying on your choice of equipment and your driving abilities, you'll get to taste the delights of rushing through huge desert canyons, vast fields, swamps, high-ways, and so on. Depending on the track's features, you'll have to adjust your truck/SUV so that it can resist the oncoming dangers - like spilt oil on the road, stony paths, bushes, huge, and tree-trunks. This is where the authenticity of car parts comes in. There are somewhere around 90 pieces of vehicle gear, which can give your truck the proper boost up. So, like in the previous game you have to employ these components in such an order that applies to the features of your vehicle. Therefore, you will give your truck stability, speed, manoeuvrability, and endurance.
