A daughter of the late Chester and Viola Oldenettel Kehr, she was born Nov. 28, 1924. She was foremost a great mother. She also volunteered at Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center, was a member of the Garden Club, the Rogers-Rye Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2283 Women’s Auxiliary, the Garden Club, Bay Ridge Boat and Golf Club, and Saint John’s Lutheran Church. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Shirven Kehr; and a sister, Elvera Ferraris. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ron and Karen Johnson of Winter Springs, Fla.; and Robert and Cyndi Myers of New River, Ariz.; her special friend and companion, Lou Jennings; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Lydia Kehr of Cottage Hill, Illinois; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Elaine and Edwin Reinke of Rosewood Heights, Ill.; Dolores and Harvey Davis of Bunker Hill, Ill.; and Shirley Pomatto of Wilsonville, Ill.; and two grandchildren, David Myers and Rachel Myers, both of New River, Ariz. "The drama will be real," intones the announcer, "but it won't save you any money on car insurance." Aha—it's yet another ad for Geico . Seth Martin Inducted 1998 - Builder Category Seth Martin backstopped the Trail Smoke Eaters to the 1961 World Ice Hockey Championship, played with the Canadian National Team, and was considered to be the best goaltender in the world in his day. Martin was named the Best Goaltender at four World Championship Tournaments (1961, 1963, 1964 and 1966) and was named to the tournament all star team on three of those occasions. Martin played a total of 20 seasons in the Western International Hockey League (amateur), beginning in 1952. He was a member of the Trail Smoke Eaters for the first 11 years, and then saw action with Spokane, Portland and Rossland. He played on two Allan Cup Canadian Championship teams (Trail in 1961 and Spokane in 1970). Seth Martin also had a taste of the big leagues as he shared the netminding duties with the legendary Glenn Hall for the expansion St. Louis Blues in 1967. He had a respectable 2.59 goals-against average and one shutout that year. Martin retired from the NHL after his rookie season, choosing to return to Trail, and his job as a fireman at the Cominco smelter. Greatly respected by his teammates and opponents alike, the name Seth Martin is as well-known in Europe as Vladislav Tretiak is in North America.

BOYNTON BEACH When a Guatemalan mother walked out on her four children, her farm worker husband had to raise them. He stayed home to care for his four-year-old daughter when she got the chickenpox, and lost his job. So he had to beg for food in the streets. Students at Boynton Beach High School heard his story and took action. Victor Baten and over 10 others in his Spanish honors class gathered $200 for the family, as well as clothes, school supplies, and toys. They shipped four boxes to them and wired the money. "I come from a family that lived in El Salvador, which is next door to Guatemala, and was very poor," Victor told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "We're living comfortably now, fortunately. I know these countries need help, so I thought why not help them? In the long run I'd like to give something back." That spirit led the South Florida Sun-Sentinel to select him in July 2005 as a CHARACTER COUNTS! kid for kindness in the Palm Beach County School District.

One by one they made their way to the podium where, in front of posters showing the Six Pillars of Character, mayor Cynthia Dunham, school superintendent Walter Delecki, and former big league baseball player Ken Phelps presented the awards.
