He is a man who wanted to do aeronautical engineering at school, but has ended up selling aeroplane tickets (amongst other things). His story is interesting, as is the origin of his nickname - “Marlowe”. While at school in India, the contraction of his surname Malhotra, used by the other boys was “Malo”. “Malo” stuck and when Dharamjeet was older and had read the works of writer Christopher Marlowe, he adopted that spelling for his name. This was an advantage for him later in life too. “Dealing with Americans, Marlowe was unique enough, rather than Jimmy or Max!” he said with a grin. Marlowe was born in Thailand, in Phitsanulok, the eldest of fisve children. His father was an Indian textile trader who had come to Thailand aged 12 years. His mother was also of Indian extraction, but had been born in Thailand.

The Marlowe Statue
This is a slight cheat, following the rule `in the absence of any good view directly ahead, find something interesting on the way'. This is a statue in honour of Christopher Marlowe. The statue was moved here from Dane John gardens. It's coming obscured by the tree that's behind it which has grown considerably since I first took a photo here. Christopher Marlowe was born in Canterbury in 1564, the son of a shoemaker. He was baptised in St.Georges church at the other end of the city, we are told by a plaque on the clocktower. He went to Kings School, Canterbury and from there to Cambridge. He became one of the most important English dramatist before William Shakespeare. Marlowe worked on tragedy and he wrote four important plays developing tragedy as a dramatic form. His most important work was The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus He was murdered in suspicious circumstances, one of those great unsolved crimes, in Deptford in the year 1593. Supposedly he was stabbed to death over a dinner bill. Some people dispute his death and think that he survived to write some plays that are attributed to Shakespeare. 65. Was Marlowe The Man?
On june 1, 1593, marlowe was reported to have been stabbed to death by a bawdy servingman in a lewd brawl at a Deptford inn, three miles from London.

WAS MARLOWE THE MAN?
Archie Webster 's original essay, published in The National Review (VOL.LXXXII, pp.81-86) dated September 1923.
(And therefore before Hotson's discovery in 1925 of the Coroner's Inquisition concerning Marlowe's death.) MORE than a generation ago the learned Professor Dowden called attention to the fact that no theory advanced by scholars explained the doubts and difficulties of the autobiographic statements made by Shakespeare in the Sonnets . While it is obvious that an explanation must exist, all commentators up to the present have been content to elucidate some of the one hundred and fifty-four sonnets and dismiss the balance as a The sonnets purport to be a story of Shakespeare's life from his own pen. The story conflicts with all the historic information we have of the Stratford genius, hence the difficulty of explaining it. The story is just as foreign to the history of Francis Bacon, Sir Walter Raleigh, the Earl of Oxford, and sundry others who have been suspected of hiding their poetic talent under the mask name of Shakespeare. It is caviar to all schools. In many sonnets Shakespeare protests that he is absent from England against his will. His name received a brand (111), and he was a lonely outcast, disgraced in the eyes of men (29). This alleged absence is an abysmal mystery to the scholars, who know nothing of such a period of exile in the career of the Swan of Avon. As to the disgrace, the scholars surmise that the bard felt himself to be branded because he was an actor, and actors are said to have been held in very low repute in that day. This may pass as an explanation of 29 and 111, however feeble it may seem to some of us, but it collapses when applied to many other sonnets, such as, for instance, 36, in which Shakespeare wrote to the Earl of Southampton

CHRISTOPHER MARLOWE - Some biographical facts
Peter Farey The earliest record we have of the poet and dramatist Christopher Marlowe is of his baptism at St. George's Church, Canterbury, on 26th February 1564. So, although his actual date of birth is unknown, at least we know that it must have been before this. We can also work out the earliest date for his birth in fact, as he must have been under fifteen - the maximum age for acceptance - when he entered the King's School, Canterbury on 14th January 1579. Any birthday between 15th January and 25th February 1564 is possible therefore, but a date nearer to the later of these is much more likely. There is no known basis for the web-wide belief that he was born on 6th February. Christopher was the second child of John Marlowe, a shoemaker and freeman of Canterbury, who had come there from Ospringe - a village some ten miles nearer London - about eight years earlier. His mother, who had married John in May 1561, was Katherine Arthur, from a family in Dover, roughly fifteen miles south-east of Canterbury. Their first child, a daughter (Mary), lived for only a very few years after Christopher's birth, and of the other Marlowe children, only six apparently reached adulthood - Christopher himself, Margaret, Joan, Ann, Dorothy and Thomas. It is perhaps worth mentioning the fact that spelling was not standardized at that time, and Marlowe's name was spelt many different ways in the course of his life. This has given rise to doubt in some people's minds as to whether it is necessarily the same person being referred to each time in his 'standard' biography. This is considered in more detail in my essay

Review: OSF embodies Faust legend with a hellish shimmer of mystery
By BILL VARBLE
Mail Tribune Everything about the Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s production of Christopher Marlowe’s "The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus" is writ large. From a spooky, heaping- helping-o’-skulls table to Faustus’ good and bad angels embedded in Richard L. Hay’s creepily luscious set to Robert Peterson’s dazzling lights and the more than 40 actors in Marie Anne Chiment’s fantastic costumes. Did I mention scary devils, one of the best dragons you’ll see and the fiery pit of Hell? Advertisement "Why, this is Hell nor am I out of it," says Mephostophilis. In this view, Hell is exile from God. A recent "Faustus" suggested Hell is despair. Sartre said it’s other people. And unlike many characters whose flaws lead to their undoing (think of, say, the Macbeths), his author sympathizes with him. So was Marlowe undercutting the cosmology of his day? As Faustus winds up tortured for eternity (after trying for a plea bargain of a mere 100,000 years) could Marlowe be asking his audience to reflect on the justice of such a system? We gladly leave such questions to the theologians.

After leaving the army in 1835 John Nickinson acted at the Theatre Royal, Montreal, and the following season 1836-1837 joined a stock company in Albany, New York. Charlotte Cushman played Romeo at the Albany theatre and after the performance, John Nickinson led her on stage and placed a wreath on her head. Eternal Intermission
www.thesaucers.com

Exotic Records Eternal Intermission is a groovy collection of songs that range in style from sultry chick-rock to a campy, psychedelic cover of The Soft Parade by The Doors. Spoken word (or rather, a short rap) pops up unexpectedly yet unobtrusively in Prophet. Songs are radio friendly and ultimately danceable, while Something Stops Me has the all the makings of hipster lounge music begging to be listened to with a dirty martini. The Saucers have an uncanny sound semblance to Luscious Jackson and maybe a touch of The Cardigans, too, but not quite as Euro-bubble chic as the latter. RATING 4 Debra DeSalvo

    Christopher Marlowe
Born 6th. February, 1564, in Canterbury, Kent, England; died 30th. May, 1593, in Deptford, London.
English dramatist. His father was a shoemaker and his mother was the daughter of a clergy man. He was educated at King's School, Canterbury until he was 15, and then he took a scholarship at Benet (Corpus Christi) College, Cambridge. His Tamburlaine the Great was a considerable improvement on any tragedy that had been produced in England. Although blank verse had been used before he gave it strength and variety. He prepared the way for William Shakespeare. While at Cambridge Christopher Marlowe met Thomas Watson who was visiting the university. They became close friends and made plans to live together after Marlowe's studies. Thomas Watson introduced Christopher Marlowe to Sir Francis Walsingham, the Secretary of State, who operated a network of spies throughout Europe. Marlowe offered his services and he was sent to Rheims where he spied on the Roman Catholic seminary and sent back information on the priests and students who were secretly planning to return to England. Also while at Cambridge Marlowe met Francis Walsingham's nephew, Thomas, who was then about 17. They became close friends and they often spent time together at Thomas's country house, Scadbury, near Chislehurst, Kent.
