    The Marlowe Conspiracy:
    Part I
On May 30, 1593, in a charming little rooming house in Deptford, Mother England turned her head for only a moment while one of her most gifted servants was slaughtered. The young man whose brilliant mind spawned some of the greatest tragedies known to man was and was privy to the darkest secrets of Elizabethan society was forever silenced by the thrust of a dagger. Why was Christopher Marlowe murdered?
The plot surrounding Marlowe's life and death is one so fantastic and complicated that I hesitate to take on the burden of revealing it to you. It is accepted among scholars that Christopher Marlowe was a spy in the Queen's secret service. It is documented that while attending college, Marlowe was absent for several lengthy periods of time. It came to the attention of Cambridge that Marlowe had been spending time in Rheims, a reputed Catholic haven. Armed with this knowledge Cambridge assumed the worst and threatened to withhold Christopher Marlowe's M.A. degree. However, the Queen's Privy Council intervened on Marlowe's behalf with a letter dated June 29, 1587, stating he had been about the Queen's business and had acted for the benefit of his country. This would not be the last time Marlowe's intentions would be misunderstood.
To penetrate and deceive a society of powerful and dangerous men took the skill of an actor, but to remain among them and be accepted as one of their own on a day to day basis took true genius. Certainly Christopher Marlowe possessed both of those qualities. During his exploits he came into the company of many a notorious villain and as a result received the reputation of a scoundrel himself. Marlowe was present when Thomas Watson murdered William Bradley and was jailed for several days pending an investigation. Watson was acquitted on grounds of self-defense and both Marlowe and Watson were released. Such events have a way of tarnishing ones reputation.

    June Marlowe
June Marlowe was an American actress, most notable for appearing in six Our Gang short subjects as the lovely schoolteacher Miss Crabtree. Marlowe, a native of St. Cloud, Minnesota, was a prolific actress in silent films during the 1920s, appearing in films opposite John Barrymore and Rin Tin Tin. Marlowe didn't make an easy transfer over to talking pictures, and by 1930 was starting to drift away from acting. By chance, she happened to meet Our Gang director Robert F. McGowan one day in a Los Angeles, California department store. He was searching for an actress to portray the schoolteacher in the series, and after producer Hal Roach suggested that Marlowe, a brunette, wear a blond wig to match Jackie Cooper 's hair, she got the part. The three Our Gang films which pair Marlowe with Jackie Cooper's character, Teacher's Pet (1930), School's Out (1930), and Love Business (1931), are among the three most famous films in the series. She also has a small role in 1931's Little Daddy. Besides her work in Our Gang, Marlowe also appeared in fellow Roach stars Laurel and Hardy's first feature film, Pardon Us. After Cooper left Our Gang in 1931 to appear in MGM features, Marlowe's Miss Crabtree character was used in only two more shorts, 1931's Shiver My Timbers and 1932's Readin' and Writin.

Powell was turned down for the lead in Double Indemnity (Paramount, 1944) because director, Billy Wilder thought the public would never buy Powell as anything but a lightweight song-and-dance man. But Powell nabbed the role of Marlowe in 1944's Murder, My Sweet and never looked back. In fact, Powell's previous image actually may have helped since nobody had great expectations. William K. Everson, in his book, The Detective in Film , suggests that " Powell because the realistic conception of the private eye was relatively new, and because Powell was totally new to it became Marlowe far more easily than Bogart [in The Big Sleep (Warner Bros., 1946)], who had several other competing images working against him: the gangster image, Sam Spade, Rick from Casablanca. Powell tossed off the tired, contemptuous, yet biting Raymond Chandler wisecracks and insults with superbly underplayed style." May 31, 1593. A widow's house in Deptford, three miles from London. She rents rooms for meetings, and provides food and drink to those who wish to spend the day in contemplation. It is just after six in the evening, the sun not yet set, the room suffused in a pale, golden light. Supper is over. In a matter of minutes, Christopher Marlowe will be dead. Portrait - Christopher Marlowe, age 21
Three of the men are seated on a bench, "cheek by jowl," as one of them is to report later, in front of a trestle table. They are playing an Elizabethan version of backgammon. The only other furniture in the beamed, dark, low-ceiling room is a bed, upon which the fourth man, recovering from too much wine, is reclining. One of the men at the table, the one sitting in the middle of the three, says, over his shoulder, that the bill for their day's food and drink must be paid to their hostess.

Bailiwick Repertory Theatre pulls back the curtain on Shakespeare's contemporary, Christopher Marlowe, with the world premiere of Chicago-based playwright Harlan Didrickson's Marlowe , beginning June 9 in Chicago. Bailiwick founder and artistic director David Zak directs the play about the turbulent life of the Elizabethan playwright who penned Dr. Faustus, Tamburlaine Parts I and II and Edward II. Opening night is June 12. Performances continue to July 17 "In the play, we meet the firebrand Marlowe and his Cambridge pals Thomas Kyd and Thomas Watson, and follow his involvement with his patron Sir Francis Walsingham and Queen Elizabeth," according to production notes. "As his popularity rises as a playwright, his radical thinking, sharp tongue and work as a spy and lead to a series of encounters with enemies and ultimately his untimely death. Illustrated with excerpts from his poetry and plays, Didrickson's Marlowe is a contemporary play with a classical core."

Pangea cryptozoologist Scott Marlowe and volunteer Robert Reese ventured down to Lakeport, Florida to check out leads relating to the photos of the Florida Swamp Ape that were sent anonymously to Pangea last month.
Working with leads provided by a number of our friends on our sister site, cryptozoology.com, the investigators were able to resolve the authenticity of the pictures that have been making the rounds on Internet cryptozoology sites causing many believers and skeptics alike wanting closure on this episode.
Armed with photos of the supposed origin of the pictures, "Jim’s Fish Camp and Bar" and of its ostensible owner, James Smith, Marlowe and Reese set off to find the location and its proprietor.
After driving State Road 78 from Moore Haven to Okeechobee and covering County Road 721, the investigators could not find any facility that matched or resembled the facility in the photograph.
Stopping a police officer, the pair inquired about "Jim’s Fish Camp" and was told that the policewomen had never heard of the operation. She referred the investigative team to the owner of Lakeport Grocery who was a lifelong resident of the town.

Primary Documents Relating to Christopher Marlowe
The following is a scan of the Privy Council's entail to Cambridge University dated 29 June 1587 demanding Marlowe's degree. It is followed by a typescript prepared by Peter Farey. "Whereas it was reported that Christopher Morley was determined to have gone beyond the seas to Reames and there to remaine, Their L(ordship)s thought good to certefie that he had no such intent, but that in all his accions he had behaued himself orderlie and discreetelie wherebie he had done her ma(jes)tie good seruice, and deserued to be rewarded for his faithfull dealinge: Their L(ordship)s request was thst the rumor thereof should be allaied by all possible means, and that he should furthered in the degree he was to takethis next Commencement: Because it was not her ma(jes)ties pleasure that anie one employed as he had been in matters touching the benefitt of his Countrie should be defamed by those that are ignorant in th'affaires he went about" Peter reminds us, "This had been signed by the 'Lord Archbishop' (Whitgift), 'Lord Chancelor' (Hatton), 'Lord Threasurer' (Burghley), 'Lord Chamberlaine' (Hunsdon) and 'Mr Comptroler' (Crofts'. It is worth remembering that Lord Burghley was also Chancellor of the University!"
Marlowe is believed to have died, from being stabbed in the face on 30 May 1593, however there is considerable evidence this death was faked. In the following scan is the church record in Deptford, Kent for a burial on 1 June 1593 said to have been his. Curiously no gravestone, let alone, monument, to Marlowe, already the realm's most gifted poet and dramatist, was placed by any of his my powerful friends and patrons.

An Even Simpler Little Marlowe Story
Ok. I’m here to tell the story of how the elusive genius Christopher Marlowe became the even more illusive writer "William Shakespeare". It is a story full of mystery and perhaps some magic. It is an old tale that goes back to when Marlowe supposedly or officially “died” and “Shakespeare” materialized, out of the ether, to take his place. Christopher Marlowe b. 1564, "dies" 30 May 1593 and "William Shakespeare" appears early in June 1593 to take his FOREMOST place among men of English Letters. NOTE: SCHOLARS CAN FIND NO CONNECTION BETWEEN "WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE" AND WILLIAM SHAKSPERE THE RUSTIC ACTOR UNTIL 1623 WHEN THEY ARE CLAIMED THE SAME PERSON IN AN ADVERTISEMENT OR INFOMERCIAL IN THE FIRST FOLIO. MARLOVIANS ARE NOT SUGGESTING MARLOWE BECAME THE RUSTIC ACTOR AND PRODUCER OF PLAYS AT THE GLOBE PLAYHOUSE WILLIAM SHAKSPERE, 1654-1616. THAT MAN AND HIS ILLITERATE FAMILY WERE ONLY ASSOCIATED WITH THE PLAYS OF "WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE" PLAYS WRITTEN BY CHRISTOPHER MARLOWE. ( SEE: HOW POOR WILLY PRODUCED SHAKESPEARE To pull off this fraud, a body was stolen and switched, friends foreswore themselves, and a new identity or two were taken.

Always seek to converse with gentlemen into whose society you may be introduced, with a dignified modesty and simplicity, which will effectually check on their part any attempt at familiarity; but never say or do anything that may lead them to suppose you are soliciting their notice. An instance can scarcely be recalled of a lady, either by direct or indirect means, attempting to storm a man's heart into admiration (charmingly put Kim), who did not effectually defeat her purpose, and instead of the coveted homage to her charms, awaken a feeling directly its opposite.
