Lugosi hate bei der Gründung einer Schauspielergewerkschaft mitgewirkt und führte ihre Protestmärsche bis 1919 an, als er sich aus Angst um sein Leben schließlich gezwungen sah, nach Deutschland zu flüchten. Verborgen in einem Zigeunerkarren, hatten er und seine junge Ehefrau alle Grenzübergänge unbemerkt passiert, wurdne dann aber gesichtet, wie sie über ein im Dunkel liegendes Feld auf ein offenes Flugzeug zuhasteten. Die Lugosis schafften es trotzdem, dem Kugelhagel zu entkommen. Er sah seine Heimat Ungarn nie wieder!

Bela Blasko nació el 20 de octubre de 1882 en Lugos (Hungría), en el seno de una familia acomodada. Su padre era banquero, aunque la muerte de éste cuando Bela tenía 12 años, provocó que el joven Lugosi se pusiera a trabajar como minero. Poco después, comenzó a estudiar interpretación en la Academia de teatro de Budapest. The band's freak-show approach to rock assured them a significant cult following in their heyday, and the tone they set would resonate through the '80s in such bands as the Mission, Sisters of Mercy, and Nine Inch Nails. The band began to take shape in 1977 when brothers Kevin Haskins and David Jay formed the Craze with singer/guitarist Daniel Ash. When singer Peter Murphy came on board the band took the name Bauhaus 1919. The name was borrowed from the post-WWI avant-garde German architectural movement which saught to achieve elegance through simplicity, the artists turning their backs on the grandiose designs of their predecesors. The band's approach to their art form was much the same - they were strict minimalists, creating a bleak musical landscape for Murphy's cold, dramatic chanting. Like a number of other dark, highly-stylized '80s groups, Bauhaus found a home at indie label 4AD. Having dropped the "1919" from their name, Bauhaus released their debut album, "In The Flat Field," in 1980.
