In 1923, a year after she received the first of three Guggenheim fellowships (1922, 1933, 1937), her first book of poetry, Body of this Death: Poems , came out. She married poet Raymond Holden in 1925. This was followed by her second book

Big Brother overall rating Is Louise Nurding yet another UK-based singing star hoping to break out internationally in the mold of Kylie Minogue Billie Piper Dido , and Samantha Mumba ? Yes, she is, and quite unapologetically so. There is only so much food put on the table for trying to be a singer who only cares about artistic integrity. Birmingham, Alabama
To baby-boomers, Louise Fletcher is best known for her role as Nurse Ratched in the critically acclaimed, One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest . For Generation Xers however, she is known as the cunning Kai Winn on the hit sci-fi series, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine . But one thing is certain, whatever role she chooses to play, viewers come away with the gift of having experienced a brilliant actress at work. Fletcher's talent is far-reaching in that she has the ability to convincingly play any type of character she so wishes to play; from vulnerable to powerful, scattered to intelligent, but ultimately, she is at her best whenever she crawls into the skin and mind of the adversary; as seen in her skin-chilling portrayal of the deranged grandmother in Flowers In The Attic Raised by her parents Robert, an Episcopal minister, and Estelle, Louise had a unique childhood due to the fact that both her parents were deaf. She was taught how to speak by her aunt, who apparently was the first person to expose Louise to the performing arts.

    Louise Erdrich
    The creative instinct
Being the mother of five children
has deepened her art, says the author
    of "Love Medicine" and
the new "Tales of Burning Love" By ROBERT SPILLMAN "how is it that we all, constantly, apologize for that womanizing, weak-spirited, failed contractor, our husband?" gripes Eleanor to the other three ex-wives of Jack, an irresistible lout around whom Louise Erdrich spins her latest multi-voiced novel, "Tales of Burning Love." Driving away from Jack's funeral the wives are caught in a sudden squall that strands them under an overpass outside of Fargo, North Dakota. As the snow buries their car, the women stave off the bitter cold and fatal sleep by telling each other very different tales of Jack's ever-changing financial and amorous arrangements. Like many of her characters, Jack included, Erdrich is of mixed Native American descent; her mother is French Ojibwa, while her father, who according to family legend was born in a tornado, is German American. Erdrich's parents worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs as teachers on a nearby North Dakota reservation and she recalls that her father regularly recited memorized poetry Frost and Byron to her and her six siblings. Erdrich started her literary career as a poet, supporting herself by working at a Kentucky Fried Chicken and on road construction crews. At 28, Erdrich published her first novel "Love Medicine" which had been rejected by numerous publishing houses when her husband, the author Michael Dorris, resubmitted it, posing as her literary agent. Despite a modest first print run, "Love Medicine" was a phenomenal word-of-mouth success, selling 400,000 copies in hardback and winning the 1984 National Book Critics Circle Award.
