    27. The Peter Lorre Films Of Mr. Moto
Listing of the Moto films, plus an abridged preface to a book on the series by Howard Berlin.
    http://www.drberlin.com/mr_moto.htm
    The Peter Lorre Films of
Mr. Moto was a mild-mannered, Japanese detective that was the basis for a series of eight films (1937-39) by Twentieth Century-Fox from the stories of novelist John P. Marquand. Peter Lorre portrays Kentaro Moto (I.A. Moto in Marquand's novels), who was very much unlike Charlie Chan in that he was the master of disguises and physically more active, often using ju-jistsu.
It is seldom clear for whom Moto really works. Perhaps it is the International Police. In the first two films, he refers to himself an importer. When asked if he is a detective in the film Think Fast, Mr. Moto , he replies that it done only as a hobby. On other occasions, Moto claims to be a confidential investigator for the International Association of Importers, a member of the International Police, a college lecturer in criminology, and a managing director of the Dai Nippon Trading Company, which probably serves as a front for his activities with the International Police. However, in The Return of Mr. Moto

    PETER LORRE
    A Man of Dreams
Before you enter this site, there are a few things that must be made clear. First of all, nothing you are about to see in the following pages is real. None of these things you will read about ever happened. None of the lobby cards and movie stills you are about to see exist except as items of my own creation.
My intent for making this site is to make people laugh.
As a lifelong Peter Lorre fan, I have gotten enormous inspiration from his works in making my own creations. Exploring the works of this great artist has led me to wonder what might have been if he could have made some of the movies I fantasize about seeing him in. This is what this site is all about. In making the images, I have combined actual Peter Lorre photos, movie stills, and lobby cards with other images from various other sources.
Those who knew Peter Lorre all speak of the wonderful sense of humor he had. I like to think the material I'm putting into this site would have made him laugh. That to me would be the the ultimate payoff for the time I've spent on creating what you are about to see. Unfortunately, since he is no longer with us, I know that can never be. However, all of my work concerning him has been done with affection in my heart for this fine man, and I hope this feeling comes across to you, the viewer.
Finally, some of these images contain nudity, and are therefore not recommended for those under eighteen years old. If you are underage, or easily offended by risque material, please do not enter this site.

A Guide to the Mr. Moto Films
by Charles P. Mitchell The films of Mr. Moto provided a sharp contrast to the drawing room mysteries that were so prevalent on the screen during the Thirties. Their plots were highly melodramatic with an emphasis on action rather than mystery. The main character himself was enigmatic, charming but highly dangerous. Of all the many film series, Mr. Moto remains the most unusual, the most surreal, the most violent, and the most fantastic.
regarded his character as tongue-in-cheek as well.
In 1936, Lorre signed a contract with Twentieth Century-Fox. His first film for them, Crack Up (1937) offered Lorre a fun part as a wild eccentric who in actuality was a spy. After this picture, Fox also seemed to lose interest in developing good parts for Lorre, and this was the moment when he was assigned the role of Mr. Moto.
Peter Lorre was having considerable health problems at the time he received the Moto assignment. He had suffered for years from chronic gall-bladder troubles. Doctors had prescribed morphine for the condition and increased the dosage after surgery. Lorre became trapped between the constant pain and addiction to morphine to ease the problem. It was during the period of the Moto films that Lorre struggled and overcame this problem.
In fact, when Foster first met with Lorre to discuss the Moto project, he met him at the sanitarium where the actor seemed in a weakened condition. Foster knew that Lorre could never manage the action elements of the role. Unlike Charlie Chan, the character of Mr. Moto would become involved with a lot of physical action, including judo battles, leaps from high places, and other dangerous stunts. Foster was able to obtain the services of Harvey Parry, a first rate stuntman who was about the same size as Lorre. The choice of Parry became a crucial element in the success of the Moto pictures, because his energetic stunts helped to define Mr. Moto. In the serials, it was quite common to make frequent use of expert stuntmen, but often this illusion was ruined because the stuntmen looked so unlike the players for whom they were doubling. But the Parry/Lorre pairing was ideal, and the two men also became good friends.

Lorre Story Ladislav Loewenstein was born June 26, 1904 in Rozsahegy, Hungary (now part of Slovakia), the eldest son of a middle-class German-speaking Jewish family, and grew up in Vienna and various rural outposts of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Though his father tried to steer him into a respectable career as a banker, "Laczy" was determined to become an actor, and spent much of the 1920s learning his trade in various small theatrical companies, notably with psychologist Jacob Moreno's experimental troupe in Vienna. It was Moreno who recommended that he adopt the stage name Peter Lorre. During this period Peter started using morphine, eventually developing a habit that he never really overcame, but which he managed to keep a secret from the public and many who worked with him. In the late 1920s and early 1930s Peter made an impression in the art theaters of Berlin in productions of Engineers in Ingolstadt Danton's Death Spring Awakening , and Tales from the Vienna Woods . He became part of the theatrical coterie of avant garde playwright Bertolt Brecht, and appeared in productions of

Interested in the theater from early on, Lorre acted on various stages in Breslau, Zurich and Vienna before coming to Berlin in 1929 when Bertolt Brecht Pioniere in Ingolstadt. Performances in Dantons Tod and followed. 1931 proved to be the year of Lorre's breakthrough. Playing Gala Gay in Brecht's own production of Mann ist Mann at night, Lorre would stand in front of the cameras of Fritz Lang during the day in the role of the child murderer Hans Beckert in the director's first sound feature, M. The success of the film turned Lorre into an international film star; after M he appeared in eight more German films, often in smaller comical roles. In 1933, Lorre emigrated via the much-traveled route first to Vienna, then Paris, then London, before reaching the US through a contract with Columbia Pictures. Known in the United States primarily for his performances as the child murderer in M and as the anarchist in Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1934), Lorre was typecast from the beginning of his US career as a menacing and enigmatic presence, often as a sexual threat or outsider. His most successful period was at Warner Bros. where he appeared next to Humphey Bogart and Sidney Greenstreet in numerous films of the 1940s, most notably

    40. Lorre, Bullmastiff By Dynamic Force And Von Frankental @ Belgium
Pictures of a dog in Belgium, general information, and a gallery of famous mastiffs.
    http://www.webopleiding.teno.be/haasrode/webmaster13/peter/dogfiles/
Lorre son of Dynamic Force Evita and Chef von Franketal, a genuine bullmastiff.
You can find lots of information on the net how a bullmastiff should be. This site will show you how my bull is, and how your bull can be. He's one of the best things that happened to me, and he got me addicted to the breed. BUT. Don't barge into buying one of these without consideration. It took me more than a year to find the best bullmastiff breeder , and in the meantime I read almost everything I could find about the dog. Most of the stuff I read described the prototype of the perfect dog, and yes the bullmastiff is what comes nearest to the perfect dog. So it is very normal that you want one. BUT. I saw people who just bought one and didn't know anything about the breed. One of them was surprised of the size of my ten months old pup. Not a good sign, is it? When you buy a dog, study the dog before you guy it.
He's a very good guardian, but he's not the barking-teeth-showing-agressive type of watchdog. Strangers are kept at the doorstep by his impressive deep bark, but ones they get the green light from the boss, the visitor gets all the attention and can start bellyrubbing until he leaves. So don't be disappointed when he doesn't make scaring people his daily routine. He's fearless and therefore he's not impressed by those barking-teeth-showing-agressive type of dogs. He never causes trouble but by ignoring warning signals from those dogs he can run into trouble. He thinks it's all part of the play, when he sees it is not for play he puts an end to the game fairly quickly.
