Whistle Down The Wind
THIS PRODUCTION HAS NOW CLOSED:

please use the menu on the left hand side. Musical with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Jim Steinman. Directed by Gale Edwards. This musical follows the fortunes of a criminal outcast, caught between the prejudice of adults and the innocence of the young. It is set in America's Deep South in the late fifties. The famous film was set in the north of England and tells the story about three children who harbor an escaped convict - convinced that he is Jesus. This new musical moves the story to the time and place where the word 'teenager' was invented. The score promises explosive rock music and hauntingly beautiful love songs Whistle Down The Wind is based on the original novel by Mary Hayley Bell and the film produced by Richard Attenborough and directed by Bryan Forbes from a screenplay by Keith Water house and Willis Hall. Set in a sleepy backwater town in 1959 Louisiana, three days before Christmas, Whistle Down The Wind tells the story of three children who discover a stranger hiding in their barn. They believe the man to be Christ and in their innocence feel a need to hide him from the adults in the small community. Each child fears he will be harmed as happened once before. At the same time the adults have been hiding the news from the children that a prisoner from a nearby penitentiary has escaped and may be at-large in their town. A wonderful ambiguity then surrounds the remainder of the story and we are never quite sure whether the innocence of the children or the experience of the parents and elders is to be believed.

Sunset Boulevard Music: Andrew Lloyd Webber Based on the 1950 Billy Wilder film, Sunset Boulevard tells the story of Norma Desmond, an aging silent screen star desperate to make a comeback, and her young lover, a struggling screenwriter named Joe. Although the musical begins with Joe's corpse floating facedown in Norma's poola feat accomplished by designer John Napier in the original productionit is the young screenwriter who provides narration for the entire story. Sunset Boulevard originally opened in London with Patti LuPone playing the part of Ms. Desmond. Although her contract stipulated that she would appear in the Broadway production as well, when the musical opened in New York at the Minskoff Theatre on November 17, 1994, it was Glenn Close in the lead role. During the course of the Broadway run, Ms. Close was succeeded by Betty Buckley, who had also replaced Patti LuPone in London.

Born: March 22, 1948
Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber has written some of the most commercially successful musicals of the last quarter of the 20th century. Among his most popular shows are "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" (1967), "Jesus Christ Superstar" (1971), "Evita" (1974), " Cats " (1981), "The Phantom of the Opera" (1986), and "Sunset Boulevard" (1993). Lloyd Webber's gift for melody has spawned such classic musical theater songs as "Memory" and "Music of the Night."
Lloyd Webber was born in London on March 22, 1948. His father was a faculty member at the Royal College of Music and his mother was a piano teacher. Andrew showed musical aptitude at a very young age, and, while still a youth, composed short musical entertainments for his family.
His first musical was "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" (1967). With lyricist Tim Rice , Lloyd Webber created an eclectic score to accompany the Old Testament story of Joseph and his brothers. Musical numbers ranged in style from Elvis-style rock to calypso and soft rock ballads. Joseph's two big songs, "Any Dream Will Do" and "Close Every Door," became hit singles.
"Jesus Christ Superstar" (1971), another collaboration with

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat Music: Andrew Lloyd Webber Lyrics: Tim Rice Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat , the first collaboration between Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, tells the story of a young man named Joseph living in the land of Canaan. His father's favorite son, Joseph is perhaps a little spoiled. While the rest of his brothers are forced to wear sheepskin, he struts around in a fabulous rainbow-colored coat, a gift from his adoring father. The rest of Joseph's brothers aren't too pleased with the situation, and when Joseph goes so far as to tell them of a dream he has had in which their stacks of wheat bow down to his stack of wheat, they decide they have finally had enough. Joseph's brothers abduct him, destroy his cherished coat, and toss him into a pit to perish. But when a group of Ishmaelites come trotting by on their donkeys at the last minute, the brothers have a change of heart and decide not to murder Joseph, but rather to sell him into slavery. Either way, he's out of their hair, and this way, they make a little extra cash. So they slaughter a goat, bloody up Joseph's coat of many colors, and return to their father, feigning great sorrow at the unfortunate death of their poor brother Joseph. Joseph, however, will not be put down so easily. After being sold to an Egyptian property owner and serving a brief stint in prison, he uses his dream-reading abilities to secure an interview with the Pharoah who is so impressed with the young man that he immediately appoints him Minister of Agriculture. Years later, when a severe famine hits the land, Joseph's brothers come begging for employment. Realizing that they don't recognize him, Joseph decides to stage a little surprise for his would-be murderers before he allows everyone to live happily ever after.

Despite opposition from certain religious groups, this production became a huge boxoffice hit and ran for 720 performances. The 1973 film version featured Ted Neeley and Carl Anderson.

A Hannibal in order to introduce his successors, Messrs Firmin and André, to the company of actors. As the leading soprano, Carlotta Giudicelli, performs "Think of Me" for the new managers, a backdrop suddenly tumbles to the floor dangerously near Carlotta's head. The chorus and dancers cry out that this is surely the work of the Phantom of the Opéra. Monsieur Lefèvre assures the new managers that the incident was merely an accident, but the ballet mistress, Madame Giry, brings forth a message that she says has come from the Phantom himself. In this message, which is addressed to André and Firmin, the Phantom lays out a few rules which he insists must be followed during their tenure as managers of the Opéra, just as they were during Monsieur Lefèvre's management. Box Five must be left unsold and left for the private use of the Phantom, and he must be paid a salary promptly each month. Il Muto The Phantom, however, is not to be trifled with. At the opening of
