Violist Donna Lively Clark and guitarist Espen Jensen as Duo Piacere will join cellist Eric Edberg in a program of Latin American and Spanish music Wednesday, June 13 as Greencastle Summer Chamber Music at Gobin UMC continues with its fourth concert. The 7:30 p.m. concert, which is free, with donations accepted, features ensemble music by Manuel de Falla, Enrique Granados, and Astor Piazzola as well as the Suite for Solo Cello by the Spanish virtuoso cellist Gaspar Cassado. The translation of the Italian word Piacere is "with pleasure" and it is with a great deal of pleasure that Norwegian guitarist Espen Jensen and violist Donna Lively Clark present their unconventional and delightful repertoire which has been created specifically for the uniquely wonderful timbre of viola and guitar. Both musicians are known for their interpretation of 20th century music and their compelling performances of Latin American music. Cellist Eric Edberg, former principal cellist of the Annapolis and Terre Haute Symphonies, and professor of music at DePauw, has performed a number of times with Donna Lively Clark. Pianist Judith Edberg, professor of music at the University of Tampa, will perform the next concert of the series on Wednesday, July 27 with a program featuring music for the left hand alone, as well as the "Sonata for Cello and Piano" by American composer Alan Hovhaness, performed with her son Eric Edberg. Soprano Barbara Pare', pianists John Clodfelter and May Phang, clarinetist Randy Salman and cellist Edberg will perform in the final concert on Aug. 10. | |
