Malcolm Anderson
We lost our precious little Malcolm on October 17, 1998. He was 21 months old. He was a beautiful, always happy and smiling little boy. He has a huge dimple It all started when my husband was transferred from California to Florida. We decided to drive the van & visit grandparents along the way. We put Malcolm and his brother Max who is 3 years old in their car seats and headed out. Along the way, I got the flu. It was awful. I ended up in the hospital over night. Next, my 3-year-old got it. He looked horrible, his eyes were sunken and he vomited all night. We took him to the hospital in Arkansas. They gave him medicine for the nausea and sent him "home" with extra medicine in case Malcolm got sick. My husband was sick in Tennessee, then Malcolm caught it in Georgia. We gave him the medicine right away and he did not vomit again, in fact, he seemed fine.

Ewan McGregor's play Little Malcolm And His Struggle Against The Eunuchs had its first night in the West End on Thursday. It is currently one of the hottest theatre tickets in London - selling more than £500,000 worth before it opened to the public. The play's first night audience included Steve Coogan, fresh from winning a South Bank award, and McGregor's former flatmate the actor Jude Law. Lord Bragg and Anneka Rice were also in the crowd for the revival of David Halliwell's 1960s play. Formerly shown at the tiny Hampstead Theatre Club- the seven-week run for the play at the 800-seat Comedy Theatre in the West End means more people will get to see Little Malcolm. Ewan McGregor, who became famous after appearing in the cult film Trainspotting, believes his name will be a draw for young fans who might not be regular theatregoers. He also said he was keen to return to the stage after concentrating on films for so long. The actor is set to appear on cinema screens around the world later this year when George Lucas's hotly anticipated Star Wars prequel is released in the spring. He is currently in British cinemas starring in the film Little Voice with Jane Horrocks.

Malcolm X's Little Blonde Co-Ed
She touched his life, but he never knew her name Kevin Cassell In his movie Malcolm X , Spike Lee depictsbut sadly underminesan incident that significantly impacted the slain former leader of the Nation of Islam. In the barely three-second shot, Malcolm X (Denzel Washington), having just delivered a fiery college speech, is leaving the stage when a white female student momentarily blocks his path and asks what she, as a white person, can do to help improve racial relations. Malcolm tersely answers with one word"Nothing"and passes her by. It is unfortunate that Spike Lee didn't, or couldn't, represent the full impact the incident that inspired this shot had on Malcolm X. Let's take a look at how deeply affected he was, in real life, by the white college student he rebuffed when she sought his advice. Several times in his autobiography, Malcolm X brings up the encounter he had with "one little blonde co-ed" who stepped in, then out, of his life not long after hearing him speak at her New England college. "I'd never seen anyone I ever spoke before more affected than this little white girl," he wrote (p. 286). So greatly did this speech affect the young woman that she actually flew to New York and tracked him down inside a Muslim restaurant he frequented in Harlem. "Her clothes, her carriage, her accent," he wrote, "all showed Deep South breeding and money." After introducing herself, she confronted Malcolm and his associates with this question: "Don't you believe there are any

Malcolm Little, the son of an African American Baptist preacher, Earl Little, was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on 19th May, 1925. Malcolm's mother, Louise Little, was born in the West Indies. Her mother was black but her father was a white man.
Earl Little was a member of the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA) and a supporter of Marcus Garvey . This got him into trouble with the Ku Klux Klan and after the family were threatened they moved to Lansing, Michigan. Little continued to make speeches in favour of UNIA and in 1929 the family house was burned down by members of the Black Legion.
In 1931 Little was found dead by a streetcar railway track. Although no one was convicted of the crime it was generally believed that Little had been murdered by the Black Legionnaires. Malcolm's mother never recovered from her husband's death and in 1937 was sent to the State Mental Hospital at Kalamazoo, where she stayed for the next twenty-six years.
Little moved to Boston to live with his sister. He worked as a waiter in Harlem and after becoming addicted to cocaine, turned to crime. In 1946 he was convicted of burglary and sentenced to ten years imprisonment. While in prison he was converted to the

During his life, Malcolm evolved from being a street-wise Boston hoodlum to one of the most prominent black nationalist leaders born in the United States . As a militant leader, Malcolm X advocated black pride economic self-reliance, and identity politics . He ultimately rose to become a world renowned Pan-Africanist and human rights activist. According to FBI reports, Malcolm X was 6 feet, 3.5 inches (192 cm) tall. Malcolm X was assassinated in New York City on February on the first day of National Brotherhood Week He explained the name he chose by saying "To take one's 'X' is to take on a certain mystery, a certain possibility of power in the eyes of one's peers and one's enemies ... The 'X'; announced what you had been and what you had become: Ex-smoker, Ex-drinker, Ex-Christian, Ex-slave." The 'X' also stood for the unknown original surname of the slaves from whom Malcolm X descended, in preference to continuing to use a name which would have been given by the slave owner. This rationale made many members of the Nation of Islam choose their own surnames.

March 10, 1964
Photo by Truman Moore/Time Warner, Inc. Malcolm X was born Malcolm Little on May 19, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska. His mother, Louis Norton Little, was a homemaker occupied with the family's eight children. His father, Earl Little, was an outspoken Baptist minister and avid supporter of Black Nationalist leader Marcus Garvey . Earl's civil rights activism prompted death threats from the white supremacist organization Black Legion, forcing the family to relocate twice before Malcolm's fourth birthday. Regardless of the Little's efforts to elude the Legion, in 1929 their Lansing, Michigan home was burned to the ground, and two years later Earl's mutilated body was found lying across the town's trolley tracks. Police ruled both accidents, but the Little's were certain that members of the Black Legion were responsible. Louise had an emotional breakdown several years after the death of her husband and was committed to a mental institution. Her children were split up amongst various foster homes and orphanages.
Malcolm was a smart, focused student and graduated from junior high at the top of his class. However, when a favorite teacher told Malcolm his dream of becoming a lawyer was "no realistic goal for a nigger," Malcolm lost interest in school. He dropped out, spent some time in Boston, Massachusetts working various odd jobs, and then traveled to Harlem, New York where he committed petty crimes. By 1942 Malcolm was coordinating various narcotic, prostitution and gambling rings.

Malcolm X Time Line Malcolm X was born as Malcolm Little on May 19, 1925, in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Louise and Earl Little.Louise Little was a mulatto born in Grenada in the British West Indies and Earl Little, a six-foot, very dark skinned man from Reynolds, Georgia, was a Baptist minister and organiser for Marcus Garvey, who wanted that all Afro-Americans go back to the land of their ancestors, Africa. Louise, his second wife, bore six children: Wilfred, Hilda, Philbert, Malcolm, Yvonne, and Reginald. Earl Little also had three children by a first wife: Ella, Earl, and Mary. Because of the father's advocacy for Garvey's movement, the whole family was terrorised by the Ku Klux Klan. To avoid any more harassment by these white racists, Little had to migrate with his family to Lansing, Michigan. It did not help. The white racists of Lansing killed Malcolm's father and laid him on a railway track, claiming he committed suicide. Alone and without money, Louise Little got more and more desperate, before the white authorities sent her to a mental hospital. Malcolm attended school until eighth grade living with different families. When his teacher stopped him from trying to become a lawyer, he dropped out of school and went to his older half sister, Ella, who lived in Boston. There, he took a job as a shoeshine boy at the Roseland Ballroom. A career as a hustler seemed a more tempting option, and he was soon peddling narcotics. He met a white girl called Laura who quickly became his girlfriend. Having a white girl and being a very good dancer, he soon was a notorious young man with crazy clothes and a haircut made to resemble the hair of white people, which he was very ashamed of later. But Roxbury proved to be too small for him, and in 1942 he took a job as a railroad dining-car porter, working out of Roxbury and New York. Settling in Harlem, New York, he became more and more involved in criminal activities. He robbed, worked as a pimp, and sold narcotics.

Things can happen all at once, and little changes can make a huge difference. q a with malcolm. Excerpts from the book. 1. thinking about yawns
http://www.gladwell.com/tippingpoint/
1. What is The Tipping Point about? It's a book about change. In particular, it's a book that presents a new way of understanding why change so often happens as quickly and as unexpectedly as it does. For example, why did crime drop so dramatically in New York City in the mid-1990's? How does a novel written by an unknown author end up as national bestseller? Why do teens smoke in greater and greater numbers, when every single person in the country knows that cigarettes kill? Why is word-of-mouth so powerful? What makes TV shows like Sesame Street so good at teaching kids how to read? I think the answer to all those questions is the same. It's that ideas and behavior and messages and products sometimes behave just like outbreaks of infectious disease. They are social epidemics. The Tipping Point is an examination of the social epidemics that surround us. 2. What does it mean to think about life as an epidemic? Why does thinking in terms of epidemics change the way we view the world? 3. Where did you get the idea for the book? 4. Why do you think the epidemic example is so relevant for other kinds of change? Is it just that it's an unusual and interesting way to think about the world?

3. the mysteries of ... suggested reading Purchase amazon barnes and noble amazon canada What is Blink about? 1. What is "Blink " about? It's a book about rapid cognition, about the kind of thinking that happens in a blink of an eye. When you meet someone for the first time, or walk into a house you are thinking of buying, or read the first few sentences of a book, your mind takes about two seconds to jump to a series of conclusions. Well, "Blink" is a book about those two seconds, because I think those instant conclusions that we reach are really powerful and really important and, occasionally, really good. You could also say that it's a book about intuition, except that I don't like that word. In fact it never appears in "Blink." Intuition strikes me as a concept we use to describe emotional reactions, gut feelingsthoughts and impressions that don't seem entirely rational. But I think that what goes on in that first two seconds is perfectly rational. It's thinking its just thinking that moves a little faster and operates a little more mysteriously than the kind of deliberate, conscious decision-making that we usually associate with "thinking." In "Blink" I'm trying to understand those two seconds. What is going on inside our heads when we engage in rapid cognition? When are snap judgments good and when are they not? What kinds of things can we do to make our powers of rapid cognition better?
