Matrix Revelations
The Wachowski Brothers FAQ
By Mark Miller PLUS: Addicted To Noise They may be famously untalkative, but Larry and Andy Wachowski sure know how to generate a lot of noise. With the November 5 release of The Matrix Revolutions , the final film in the epic trilogy, the media hype is once again deafening. The movies have transformed the brothers from small-time carpenters to fabulously wealthy and powerful Hollywood players. What hasn't changed is their reticence. If anything, the Wachowski brothers have become more reclusive since the first Matrix came out in 1999. They haven't given an interview in four years, and under an unusual deal with Warner Bros., they never have to talk to the press. Anyone who works on a film with them is made to sign a nondisclosure agreement. "They just want to stay as incognito as possible," says their manager, Lawrence Mattis. When I told him I was writing a story, he chuckled: "Good luck going down the rabbit hole. There's no map." Kenn Brown Maybe not, but the brothers Wachowski have dropped a few bread crumbs along the way.

Larry Keel Timeline

Larry Keel and Natural Bridge Flatpicking Guitar master Larry Keel is a dedicated force in preserving and creating American Mountain Music. Delivering powerful and honest performances, Keel and his 4-piece Bluegrass band Natural Bridge are a breath of fresh air in the traditional Bluegrass market of today, paying their deepest and dearest respects to the forefathers of Bluegrass who laid down the laws of how it should be played and sung- with joy, and from the heart. Following the role models of such legends as the Stanley Brothers, Jim and Jesse, Flat and Scruggs, Reno and Smiley, and Bill Monroe, Larry Keel and Natural Bridge includes Larry Keel on guitar and vocals, Mark Schimick on mandolin and vocals, Andy Thorne on banjo and Jenny Keel on bass and vocals. Born and raised in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia , Larry Keel is a young veteran musician who has always been immersed in the traditional ways and etiquette of playing mountain music. Both Larry’s father and brother (themselves skilled and versatile acoustic musicians) influenced the younger Keel to thoroughly master the foundations of acoustic guitar (tune, timing, tone) before venturing into his own original territory. From a very young age, Larry made it his goal to honor and preserve the discipline of the Traditional Bluegrass music he knows and loves, while expressing his own ideas through acoustic music.

First Flight
Wright lessons.
By Lawrence W. Reed T oday marks the 100th anniversary of the first manned flight at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, a feat engineered by two brothers named Wright. In one century the airplane went from a dream to a multibillion-dollar industry that transports hundreds of millions of people around the globe every year with speed and convenience that would surely astonish Wilbur and Orville today.
By the close of the 19th century the possibility of a man-carrying "flying machine" had captivated visionaries in many countries, though the general public regarded the idea as bunk. Nobody knew enough about aerodynamics to build a craft that could generate its own power, get up in the air with a man on board and stay there, and be flown safely and with precision. Both Langley and the Wright brothers had Smithsonian connections but with a huge and perhaps decisive difference. For Langley the Smithsonian was the conduit for a $50,000 federal grant, matched by the Institution, to finance his experiments (equivalent to about a million dollars in today's purchasing power). As for the Wrights, in 1899 Wilbur wrote a letter to the Smithsonian asking for nothing more than a reading list on flight. He and Orville would finance their dream not with government money, but with the nickels and dimes they could scrape from the profits in their private business.

Big brothers Big Sisters of lawrence County s mission is to make positivedifferences in the lives of deserving local children by providing oneto-one
http://www.bbbslawco.org/
A Big Brother or Big Sister can have a major impact on a child's life, and yet it's a truly simple process. It just takes some time, a love of life, and a concern for children. A child's self-esteem increases when an adult friend genuinely cares. His or her future is broadened by a role model who can be a guide to life's opportunities and around life's obstacles. A Big Brother or Big Sister can act as a mentor and a role model. A "Big" can show a child that, no matter how difficult things get, there is a caring adult friend there for them - someone who will listen with an uncritical ear, who will give advice if asked, and encouragement when needed, and who will help put things into perspective. And the children are not the only ones that benefit from this experience. Both the child and the volunteer share the feelings of caring and learning. It is truly a wonderful experience to make a difference in somebody's life. Big Brothers Big Sisters "Little Moments. Big Magic." Home About Us How to Volunteer Upcoming Events ... Contact Us

Mission Statement Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Lawrence is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering children to develop positive self-esteem and to pursue enriched life opportunities. We offer children the opportunity to establish one-to-one relationships with caring, adult and teen volunteers. The agency serves children age 6-14, from the Lawrence, Haverhill, Methuen, Amesbury, N. Andover, Newburyport and Salem, NH areas. Description Bigs open doors and challenge young minds. Outings might be recreational, character building, or eduactional. A Big could provide the first opportunity for a child to explore a museum, hike a mountain, or join a sports team. The Big may be the only adult in the child's life who can consistently devote time to just hanging out, one-on-one. The most common outings are as simple as walking in the park, baking a cake, or renting a movie. Big Brothers and Sisters have the opportunity to be a true friend to a child in need.

Our Carmelite Saints
Br. Lawrence of the Resurrection The famous spiritual writer Brother Lawrence of the Resurrection (1611-1691) was a Discalced Carmelite Brother in our Paris house. There he served the community for thirty years as a cook and a cobbler. He enjoyed a continual sense of the presence of God in the midst of his daily activities. He was sought out by many including some of the famous for his spiritual advice. His spiritual maxims and letters were published after his death and today are still very popular. In The Practice of the Presence of God he testifies to the satisfaction of a Brother’s life, "There is not in the world a kind of life more sweet and delightful." General Introduction For the third centenary of the death of Brother Lawrence (1691-1991) On February 12, 1691, Brother Lawrence of the Resurrection died at the Discalced Carmelite Monastery, Rue Vaugirard, in Paris-the same house where, on September 2, 1792, a century later, two bishops and twelve priests were put to death during the furor of the French Revolution. At present, this house is part of the Institut Catholique of Paris. Lawrence of the Resurrection, cook and sandalmaker, lived an intense experience of God at the service of "pure" love, an ideal at the forefront of the study of mysticism and theological discussion at the time. What happened after his death is no less astonishing! Fenelon and Bossuet, in their well-known and bitter quarrel, would often discuss questions taken from the writings and conversations of Brother Lawrence, and Protestant publishers, interested witnesses of the debate, diffused his writings widely.

Padres' Lawrence beats Redman
Thursday, August 04, 2005 By Alan Robinson, The Associated Press

In a matchup of slumping pitchers who began the game with identical records and close family ties, Lawrence lasted into the seventh inning to end his six-game losing streak and give the Padres only their third victory in 16 games. They won twice in three games at PNC Park, their first series victory since taking two of three from the Rockies from July 8-10. The Padres roughed up Pirates left-hander Redman Lawrence's brother-in-law for seven runs in 2 1-3 innings.

By Clyde L. Stancil

The grand jury last week indicted Lonnie Oneal Bailey, 40, and Harold Wayne Bailey, 34, both of Hackleburg, in the death of Melvin Key. Key, who was on oxygen, was in bed when the brothers allegedly killed him with a shotgun blast to the chest Jan. 15, 2004. The killing happened between midnight and 1 a.m. Investigators allege the brothers entered Key's home just after midnight intending to rob him, and killed him when he pointed a gun at them. Key's son was asleep in another room. The suspects left the house before he got to his father's room. The chief investigator, Capt. Lyndon McWhorter, said Harold Bailey confessed to killing Key, but said he shot Key after repeatedly telling him to drop his handgun. McWhorter was taping Harold Bailey at the time of the confession. The tape, however, ran out before Harold Bailey allegedly made the statement. The case was cold until November when a man who was in Lawrence County Jail on a drug possession charge offered information to investigators.
