    Progress Downtown Ephrata mission is 'economic vitality’
    LANCASTER COUNTY, PA - In many towns across the United States, there is a trend toward developing the downtown districts in order to revitalize them to their former days. Ephrata is one of these towns that is finding itself again.
    Since May 2004, Marsha DiBonaventuro has been the director of Downtown Ephrata, Inc., whose mission is to “empower the community to realize its vision for the downtown area by implementing a sustainable program that will enhance Ephrata’s economic vitality.’ Ephrata landmark changing the face of Main Street
    LANCASTER COUNTY, PA - Mountain Springs Hotel on Main Street in Ephrata has been a historica landmark in the community for nearly 100 years. It was the location of the first Ephrata Hospital. Later, it became a respite for the wealthy, who benefited from the hotel’s mineral springs. After the hotel’s intended uses were abandoned, it became a haven for runaways and troublemakers as well as becoming known as the haunted hotel on the hill.

    Mavs roar into first place
    Butler's three-run home run sparks sweep of Visalia
    By C.J. Daft Staff Writer The Mavericks (18-15) returned home from a road trip that saw the team lose five of six games and get swept by the Oaks (10-22), owners of the worst record in the California League this season. The difference in this series happened to be the team's pitching and defense, something that seemed to evade the Mavs during their six-game road trip. Over the course of the three-game set at home against Visalia, High Desert only made one error. "We are a completely different team than we were last week," Mavericks' left fielder Billy Butler said. "We definitely bounced back. It is a long season, and through the course of a season, you go in-and-out of grooves. In this series we were definitely on." Michael Stenerson / Staff Photographer High Desert's Angel Sanchez slides safely into third base under Visalia's Aneudi Cueavas' glove during their game. The Mavs beat the Oaks, 11-3.

    Mystery Picture #30
    This is the heavy-lift craneship Saipem 7000 , seen at Halifax (Dartmouth), Nova Scotia early in 1998. This giant craft has two cranes, each with a 7,000 ton lift capacity, for a total lift of 14,000 tons. It is by far the largest floating crane in the world.
    Mystery Picture #31
    This photo shows Bath Iron Works in 1957. The destroyers at the fitting-out pier and on the building ways are Forrest Sherman (DD 931) class ships. The two ships afloat are DuPont (DD 941) and Bigelow (DD 942) (DD 941 is probably outboard); those on the ways are (right to left) Hull (DD 945), Edson (DD 946) and Somers (DD 947). The northern part of the yard is shown here much as it is today, but considerable expansion to the south (left in this view) has since taken place. Today there are only three building ways, rather than four, and they are served by two very large cranes. A further expansion project, now underway, will see replacement of the old building ways by a modern land-level assembly/launch facility. The ships shown here have not been so fortunate: DuPont and Bigelow now await scrapping;

    From: "Chris Phillips" < christopher.phillips@btinternet.com
    For many years my father and I have been trying to find out exactly what happened to my Uncle, Sgt (Flight Engineer) Henry Pole, 1648307 Royal Air Force (Volunteer Reserve) 460 (Royal Australian Air Force) Squadron After much research we discovered that his Lancaster number JB598 took off from RAF Binbrook at 2012 hours on the night of 26th March 1944 for a bombing raid on Essen. The plane crashed on the German/Belgian border at Prum (Germany). The whole crew were killed and are today buried side by side at Hotton Military Cemetery (Belgium). Immediately after the crash however they were interred in the town cemetery at St Vith (Belgium) and there bodies moved after the war. Although we know that they died we have never been able to establish exactly how or when the plane was destroyed. were they outbound or returning? As Prum is way off course if the route was direct. We suspect maybe that a detour was used to confuse the Germans. Apparently there were rumours at the time of his death that the Germans were shooting airmen as they descended in their parachutes. This was told to my grandmother at the time and that my uncle had sustained terrible injuries and survived for a few days. I am suspicious of these rumours as it would mean that the Germans were very accurate with their shooting to kill all of the crew at one time, especially at night. We have been to the graves of the crew and all the headstones have the same dates of death

All the info I have points to the same conclusion. Those killed included my uncle F-O Brian C. Reid DF, who was navigator.
