Hyannis Port, MA 1928. Eight of the nine Kennedy children pose for a photo. From youngest to oldest they are: Jean, Robert, Patricia, Eunice, Kathleen, Rosemary, Jack, and Joe, Jr. In all, Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy would have nine children, four boys and five girls. She kept notecards for each of them in a small wooden file box and made a point of writing down everything from a doctor’s visit to the shoe size they had at a particular age. John Fitzgerald Kennedy was named in honor of Rose’s father, John Francis Fitzgerald the popular Boston Mayor who everybody knew as Honey Fitz. Before long, family and friends called this small blue-eyed baby, Jack. Jack was not a very healthy baby and on his notecard Rose also recorded the childhood diseases he suffered from : ‘whooping cough, measles, chicken pox’. On February 20, 1920 when Jack was not yet three years old, he became sick with scarlet fever, a highly contagious and potentially life-threatening disease. His father

      John Fitzgerald Kennedy Born: Birthplace:
Brookline, Mass. John Fitzgerald Kennedy was born in Brookline, Mass., on May 29, 1917. His father, Joseph P. Kennedy, was ambassador to Great Britain from 1937 to 1940. Kennedy was graduated from Harvard University in 1940 and joined the navy the next year. He became skipper of a PT boat that was sunk in the Pacific by a Japanese destroyer. Although given up for lost, he swam to a safe island, towing an injured enlisted man. After recovering from a war-aggravated spinal injury, Kennedy entered politics in 1946 and was elected to Congress. In 1952, he ran against Sen. Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr., of Massachusetts, and won. Kennedy was married on Sept. 12, 1953, to Jacqueline Lee Bouvier, by whom he had three children: Caroline, John Fitzgerald, Jr. (died in a 1999 plane crash), and Patrick Bouvier (died in infancy). In 1957 Kennedy won the Pulitzer Prize for a book he had written earlier

For many observers, his presidency came to represent the ascendance of youthful idealism in the aftermath of World War II. The promise of this energetic and telegenic leader was not to be fulfilled, as he was assassinated near the end of his third year in office. For many Americans, the public murder of President Kennedy remains one of the most traumatic events in memory countless Americans can remember exactly where they were when they heard that President Kennedy had been shot. His shocking death stood at the forefront of a period of political and social instability in the country and the world.

Early life
Born less than a month after his father was elected to the presidency, John F. Kennedy Jr. was in the public spotlight from infancy. He lived for the first three years of his life in the White House . His father was assassinated on November 22, 1963 , three days before Kennedy Jr.'s third birthday, and the son's poignant salute of his father's casket during the funeral procession on his third birthday became a heartbreaking and iconic image of the Kennedy Jr. grew up primarily on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York City . His mother Jacqueline Kennedy was married to Greek shipping tycoon Aristotle Onassis from 1968 until Onassis's death in 1975, when Kennedy Jr. was 14 years old.
