Title 5 Title 6 Even Old Lions Are Still Lions The Savings and Loan Crisis: Lessons from a Regulatory Failure , a book edited by James R. Barth, Susanne Trimbauth and Glenn Yago, sets the record straight about what actually happened to our banking institutions in the 1980s. As is documented by the highly respected and diverse group of former regulators, scholars and practitioners contributing to this book, the collapse of this industry was caused by a confluence of adverse economic conditions and misguided regulatory decisions, not by Charles Keating, despite any media-driven impressions to the contrary. "In addition to presenting allegations of fraudulent business practices – practices which Keating was incidentally never convicted of – the media focused closely on Keating’s lifestyle and possessions. Journalists made much of his personal airplanes and his houses in the Bahamas and invited their readers to conclude that these luxuries were purchased with money siphoned off from Lincoln Savings or ACC. These allegations were repeated at Keating’s trial but were found to be baseless. In actuality, Keating had owned the luxury homes and the airplanes for more than 10 years before he even made a bid for Lincoln Savings. Furthermore, accounting experts in the employ of the government testified at Keating’s trial that the earnings statements of Lincoln Savings did not contain a single misreported or misstated dollar." biography
Born Peggy Blair in December 1925 in Appalachia, Virginia (some sources cite either 1926 or 1927 as her year of birth), B movie bad girl Peggie Castle moved to California with her parents in the mid 1930s. While still a teenager, Castle began doing some print model work in the early 1940s. She found roles in a few films in the late 1940s before signing with Universal-International in 1949. A solid actress who was adept at playing femme fatales and hardened saloon girls, the brunette Castle saw her career take off when she bleached her hair blonde.

Universal-International cast the pretty actress in a number of film noir thrillers and costume adventures. However, when studio dropped her contract in 1951, Castle began freelancing in numerous westerns, such as Cow Country (1953; with Edmund O'Brien), Son of Belle Starr (1953; with Keith Larsen), and
