This is the house at 55 Pinner Hill Road that Reg Dwight called home for the first years of his life and where he first encountered the piano. It was actually the home of grandparents Fred and Ivy Harris. The Northwood Hills Hotel, where young school-age Reg played ballads of the Jim Reeves/Ray Charles variety on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The funds raised enabled him to buy his first electric piano. He happily took requests, learning at an early age how to build up a rapport with his audience. Semi-prefessional status came in 1961 when Reg joined the group Bluesology. At the end of 1966 they linked with a star named Long John Baldry. With Baldry intent on taking the group the cabaret route, Reg needed a more satisfactory outlet for his talents, and found it when auditioning for Liberty Records as a songwriter, when he was put in touch with lyricist Bernie Taupin (pictured with Elton at left). 1972 was a year of change. The month of May saw the official demise of Reginald Kenneth Dwight as, by deed poll, he officially became Elton Hercules John. Pictured at left is the three-men line-up of Elton John, Dee Murray, and Nigel Olsson. Their ranks would soon be joined by Scot Davey Johnstone.
